Oh snap, Elbow is gonna be at the Coachella signing tent this year! That day already had the most conflicts of the festival for me, and it just got even more complicated. Elbow, Broken Social Scene, Two Door Cinema Club, New Pornos, Foals, The Swell Season, and more all play earlier slots, while Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, and Mumford are in the evening. I will see Elbow no matter what sacrifices I have to make, but I may have to pass on the signing tent. Decisions, decisions...

I think I'm a bad Elbow fan for preferring to see more awesome artists rather than get Guy Garvey's autograph. :embarrassed:

I'd pick seeing Arcade Fire over Elbow's autograph, I think.

Wow. Fuck. Elbow were incredible, as usual. Garvey on top form, loads of jokes and chatter and wotnot. Beautiful night :wacky:

Gonna try and get the set list down before bed. Vids and pics in the morning, kids. *yawn*

Anyway, setlist: Manchester 25th March

The Birds

Bones of You

Lippy Kids

Mirrorball

With Love

Neat Little Rows

The Night Will Always Win

Great Expectations

Grounds For Divorce (which was fan-fuckin-tastic!!!)

Tower Crane Driver

Puncture Repair (just Craig and Guy down at the bottom of the ramp with a piano)

Some Riot (ditto - Craig & Guy)

the customary drinks round the piano - "tonight's cocktail is called 'the welcome home', it's a putrid brown colour, i'm re-naming it the Irwell, the George Irwell" it didn't taste too nice apparently (ps the Irwell is a river thru Manchester ;) )

Weather To Fly; started acoustic on the ramp, then full band on the stage

Open Arms (with the Halle)

Encore:

Starlings

Station Approach (my personal fave of the night)

One Day Like This (with the Halle)

Disappointed there wasn't more of the much older stuff, I would have loved to see The Stops again, but I guess it's to be expected that they'd play mostly SSK and build a rocket stuff, that's why most ppl would have been there after all. Out of the new stuff The Birds was incredible, much more powerful than on record, Open Arms was as amazing as I expected and Neat Little Rows was really rocky. Overall, a bloody good night, and Guy said Manchester had been the best crowd of the tour so far (well, he would say that really wouldn't he? lol)

^^Sounds great! Yeah, it's a bit disappointing about older songs, especially off Leaders.

^this was on the backdrop after Villagers came off stage. Each frame was actually a little animated clip, they looked stationary most of the time but then every so often Mark would brush his jacket and refold his arms or Pete would rub his beard. It was really cool. Then when the houselights went off, they each walked out of their frames like Hogwarts paintings  and on to the stage.

The frames were used off and on for about half the show, then that screen dropped down and they had bigger projections with a different backdrop for the rest of it. The production was really well done I thought, clever and subtle. No Muse style over the top theatrics ;)

Few more..

The stage itself may not be extravagant, but that's one of the most creative backdrops I've seen in recent memory.

Hopefully they'll throw in some more older stuff as the tour continues, but since it's still the beginning of the tour, they're probably still refining the setlist as to what flow works best.
