Ok, then I apologize to you since you weren't talking to me specifically. Thanks for being clear. I didn't want to upset anyone. I was just speaking my mind.

By the way, because I still like sharing music with people, here is the last song Chris Martin wrote to Natalie. Called "Fun", I hope you'll like it (but I'm a bit hopeless with Coldplay's fans now ^^')

I think Natalie's great. I'm kind of listening to some of her old songs and I've got to say the songs are really nice. I don't think we'll be able to give proper judgement until the studio quality mp3 comes out, but I reckon I'll be buying the disc anyway ;)

"Lukas" on new Natalie Imbruglia album

I have just been listening to the 3 Coldplay-(co)written songs "Want", "Fun" and "Lukas". There's a saying to the effect that the first impression is (often) the right one.

My first impression of "Want": A very dancey song, but very monotonous, too monotonous to my taste!

My first impression of "Lukas" (the sound quality was poor / low!!): It doesn't say me much, if anything.

My second impression of "Lukas" - with a much better sound quality: I like the song, but it is not among my (Coldplay) favourites! But it was much better in good sound quality / I think that Nat. did a good job, but would also like to hear Chris sing it.

My first impression of "Fun": It didn't say me much, but I only heard less than one minute of it.

I think that the songs might be better when hearing them again. And I quite like "Lukas" now.

Are we sure of which song Chris Martin annoyingly gave away - because "it he thought that this was the best Coldplay song ever". I thought the title of that song was&would be "Scars" - and there is in fact a song on Natalie's new album called "Scars". Was Chris talking about Lukas or maybe the song "Scars" on Natalie's new album? I would like to know.

I still prefer the Coldplay songs with Viva la viva as my all-time no. 1 followed by Clocks / Fix You / In my Place and Scientists / Politics.

Of the new Coldplay-(co)written songs on Natalie Imbruglia's album I prefer "Lukas", but it is not among the best Coldplay songs ever! IMO. :)

2 days to go before I will see / hear Coldplay in Herning (16 August, 2009). :) with an umbrella :)

This is still my favorite song by her.

Didn't come up, it was the song TORN

I listened to the preview of Want and I'm trying to imagine that song being performed by Coldplay instead of Natalie Imbruglia...obviously it would be better, but the best Coldplay song ever? I'm not really sure about that one, Chris. But I'm sure it would have been great if they had kept it.

But Lukas could have been a really really good Coldplay song! I want to hear it acoustic with just Chris singing and playing it on piano...that would be just lovely!

bump

Want is not the song he is talking about as the best song ever. It's written by about 4 different people, he probably had minimum input into it.

Lukas was the song he was talking about.

Mimi!!!

Sorry for my bad language but I'm a little bit furious at the moment. Why the hell did he gave Lukas away??? We've been waiting months for this song. That's such a typical Coldplay song. It has to be sung by Chris and played by the band. I do not hate Natalie Imbruglia but the song is so amazing, it belongs to Coldplay and should not be thrown out for a B-Class singer. The same with Fun, that's also such a beautiful song. For me Natalie Imbruglia is still a one hit wonder, she does not deserve such great songs. That does not sound very nice, but when it comes to Coldplay's music and lost songs I don't make any jokes :sneaky:

Coldplay never had plans to release Lukas themselves. It's their song, they can do what they want with it. Yes, it was considered for VLV, but it just didn't fit. That's probably why it wasn't on the EP either.

Hi,

Where can i find "Lukas"'s lyrics, please ?

Imbruglia's fourth coming

Ex-Neighbours star discusses her 'beautiful' Chris Martin-created song

20 August 2009 - Natalie Imbruglia’s upcoming album features three tracks recorded with the help of Coldplay's Chris Martin, including what he claimed could have been the "best Coldplay song ever".

"I feel very lucky to have it and he’s not having it back," she laughingly told 6 Music News about the song which Martin hadn’t initially intended to give to her.

The track from, Come To Life, is called Fun and the Torn singer told us about the first time she heard it: "When I went into the studio and he said, 'I’ve finished the song', and he sang it to me, I nearly did one of those ugly cries because it’s so beautiful."

Back in March, Martin joked to Heraldsun.com.au that he half wished Coldplay had kept it, but was excited about the final product.

"She sounds brilliant on it. I think she has a very unique talent and an incredibly unique voice," he said.

The song is "really simple and not overdone but kind of awesome at the same time," Imbruglia explained. "It’s really big, lots of strings. There’s just something so emotive that I think is really stunning."

Songs scrapped

Imbruglia has released three albums including her 1997 debut, Left Of The Middle, and is now signed to Island Records.

She revealed she was on the verge of releasing album number four when the prolific songwriter and successful Coldplay frontman got in touch.

"That was an opportunity that was too good to refuse," she admitted. "So I went back in the studio.

"I had to get rid of some songs and re-jig the track-listing but he was really, really helpful with all of that and brutally honest with me which was great."

Martin ended up writing two tracks for her and helped her re-work one of her own.

An Eno credit

Meanwhile Brian Eno also worked on an album song called Lukas, at one stage during its evolution, but at no point was Imbruglia in the studio with him.

"They’d been working on that track for their last album [Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends], but it didn't end up making it onto the record, so that’s why Brian’s name is on my album, which is amazing, but he actually wasn’t there in the room when I did my version of it, it was Chris," she explained.

Musically, Imbruglia said we can expect a varied album, which introduces more electronic sounds and dance beats, and focuses on themes of love.

She played to a very select crowd at the Lexington in London last night (19 August) ahead of the album release on 2 October.

So the song Chris claimed as the best song they've ever written is not Want or Lukas, it's actually Fun..

Yeah, can't wait to hear it properly when it's released.

Same here.

When I went into the studio and he said, 'I’ve finished the song', and he sang it to me, I nearly did one of those ugly cries because it’s so beautiful."

Hopefully she won't be the only one who gets to hear him sing the song...

I've found it odd that she's never done an Australian tour. She'll promote but not perform. Hmmm...

"Martin ended up writing two tracks for her and helped her re-work one of her own"

I geuss that one was "Want" Then, because its terrible:P but Lukas we already was a Coldplay song and Fun is Coldplays best.

I don't like it either. However, Fun and Lukas are so beautiful, I'm still sad.

Where can I hear Lukas?

You can hear Lukas here...It´s a stunning track.

So, is Lukas the track with "a lot of strings" Natalie was talking about? I think it is 'cos i've heard it should have strings in it like Viva, Yes and Rainy day.

I also read somewhere some months ago that Lukas is supposed to be a really beautiful track, I don't want to hear it performed by Imbruglia, I want it to be a Coldplay song sung by the band themself!!!!

Hahaha!!! i sooo agree with you guys :P when I listened to "want" at Natalies myspace I thought it to be really bad!

I'm happy CP arn't to preform that song, but I'm so sad they didn't keep "Fun" and "Lukas"! I don't understand, why did they give them away?
