Think of it as a Facebook, you go on your News Feed (Dashboard in Tumblr) and you read posts and like them or reblog them so they can be added on your blog and put on your followers' dashboards. If you can find yourself a niche, for example the Muse fandom, it's just like a forum centered around the band, sharing mostly pictures and videos.
