The 5th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes In First Post)

Featured Replies

Firstly I am SO SO sorry for replying too late to this! Have been really busy lately. I was so amazed listening to your review, I am so glad you liked it! Its a real mix of genres that even coldplay fans will like, with international and Australian flavour!

Here's the tracklisting:

1. 'Doubt' - Dephic

A new up and coming Manchester band from the UK, with a debut album. This is clearly the best track of the album. Whilst the start is weird, it ends with a great electro-rock explosion.

2. 'Signs And Wonders' - Animal Kingdom

One of the most surprising bands of 2009, I discovered them by chance. The singer is mesmerizing!

3. 'Austere' - The Joy Formidable

Another "underground" UK act that is unknown internationally. They supported

The Editors last year on tour and the female singer is superb!

4. 'Slow For Me, My Island' - Dappled Cities

Sydney Band, 3rd album. My favourite Aussie album of 2009. Great track that

slows down the tempo only slightly for a temporary breather.

5. 'One Night In October' - Little Comets

This is the UK band I am most excited about. They make disco-rock tunes that do make you want to jump around. Really upbeat, positive music that hasn't even made an album yet!

6. 'Sometimes' - Miami Horror

A new Australian act that hone in on the best of todays and 80's music in a unique

blend. This has been their smash breakout single. No album yet.

7. 'Blood' - The Middle East

A unique folk group from Australia - tipped for big things in 2010. Breakout single, really melodic with an interesting ending. For fans of Grizzly Bear.

8. 'Winter Winds' - Mumford & Sons

London lads who have made it big in Australia recently. They play irish folk-pop-rock sounding music with a london twist. Infectious to sing to! Chorus is amazing.

9. 'The Good News' - Philadelphia Grand Jury

Quirky band from Sydney. Breakout single off their debut album - it's another favourite of mine because of the piano riff and its such a positive sound!

10. 'Thats The Reason' - The Rakes

Uptempo, toe-tapping British indie rockers. This song is amazing to jump around to, with so much energy. This song typifies good working class British music to me!

11. 'Disembodied Voices' - Neil and Tim Finn

Being a New Zealander for 12 of my 20 years, had to put The Finn Brothers on the mixtape - NZ icons. This is a real melodic, slow tune I thought would fit well.

12. 'No More Empty Words' - The Thrills

My 4th favourite band, haven't released an album since 2007. The singer has the best vocals in the entire world, and it's well-produced, great irish indie music.

13. 'I Wanna Live In a Dream (In My record Machine) [Demo]' - Noel Gallagher

A Noel Gallagher (ex-Oasis) demo that hasn't had a proper release yet. Its one of my favourite of his, and could be a sign of what is to come in the future if he releases a solo album.

14. 'A Community Service Announcement' - Jonathan Boulet

The first true breakout single of 2010. He's a 21-year-old from Sydney who produced this whole album in his bedroom. This song is going to be a big money maker.

15. 'Let Your Love Grow Tall' - Passion Pit

Passion Pit are one of the biggest acts of 2009, and this was the final track of their album, which I think was a great closer. Love the indie/electro crossover.

Glad you liked, i tried my best!

Hey Alex! Glad to hear from you! No problem, really! I should have been busy too but sometimes music is stronger than everything

I was just SO impatient to know who was this gifted mixtaper coz', as I said earlier, it was just... amazing! I mean it really :) !!

Sorry if I hurried you :(

Thanks for all the informations! You know, afterwards I thought "well my mixtape maker is probably from UK or Australia..." Don't know why, just an intuition XD

Sure I'm gonna have a look to all these bands :) !

I especially got a crush on track #2, Animal Kingdom, the singer's voice is just :wacky:

And One Night In October is such a great song, it gives you smile at the first notes

Oh and yeah, when I listened to the mixtape again, track #13, while I was going at college I thought "isn't it Oasis??! ôO" ... Yeah, almost right XD A really great track, I hope Noel is gonna follow this style if he makes a solo carrier

And The Finn Brothers... And The Thrills... So... Out of words XD

So many styles in there! I have very eclectic tastes so that's perfect =)

Well, I think I'm gonna stop here or I'll make a review again in this post, which is not the point XD

You know, I live in France and the more years pass, the more the good artists are rare or unknown... I'm so glad I didn't know the bands and songs of your mixtape! I'll sure bookmark the link to your blog and have a look at it often :)

I'm glad you liked my review! As I said I put all my first impressions in there and I felt like my feet weren't touching the ground while I was listening, such a dreamy mood

Hope we'll talk again about music :)

Everybody listen up! You have to listen to this tape XD

1. Starts with a nice 80's intro. Reminds me of playing GTA Vice City. Singing sounds 80's too. Like it, bit AC/DCish. Has some cool riffs.

2. Nice guitar loop, bit strange voice. Don't think this song is very special.

3. Not my kind of thing. Too much screaming, too loud guitars.

4. I'm probably one of the biggest Muse fans at Coldplaying (going to see them 4 times next year, 3 times abroad). And there's one song I really can't understand why people like it. It's the most simplistic piece of shit they've ever made. I've seen it live at one of their gigs last year (they decided to drop it at the 2nd half of their gigs) and they didn't even seem to enjoy playing it live, and it didn't sound any better then on CD.

5. Again kind of Emo song, just ilke 3. Not my cup of tea.

6. Emo again, but this one is ok 6/10. It's a bit relaxter then the other songs. Has some nice guitar in it.

7. And again, relaxed one too, it's ok

8. Finally something different. Acousticish song. Chill. Like it.

9. First piano in this tape. And I like piano. Cool intro. Like the voice, nice quite song. The bridge in it is cool to.

10. Uptempo guitar song with an organ. Cool! Don't really like the voice. Bit screaming. The song overall is nice.

11. Did I mention I don't like Emo? Well. I don't

12. Well this one is quite OK, but damn it sounds all the same to me, i'm sorry…

13. Yeah! This sounds nice. I know this song actually from the radio but don't know who it is. NIce rhythm and stuff.

14. And this one sounds nice too! Keyboard-based, uptempo, nice singing. Probably the best song up till now.

15. Bit darker song. Like it, though the screaming sometimes is too much. But a very nice haunting song.

16. Oxford Comma. Know it, love it. One of their best.

17. Nice closer. Never heard of, happy song. Really like it, think this one actually is the best on this tape.

Here's my review - I hope you will understand my terrible English...

Track 1

WOW, what a way to start a tape! This one starts really special, and during the song it's like it lifts you up and takes you away. Very beautiful singing and specific music. Very very very very beautiful. Could it be Sigur Ros? It makes me really curious to hear the rest of the tape!

Track 2

Starts very relax, very calm. After a while the music opens and the signing starts. I have no idea who this is, but I like it A LOT, this is probably my favourite track of the mix!

After these 2 songs we're in a very special atmosphere, and I'm very curious what the rest of the tape will bring!

Track 3

The first seconds sound like Chris, but it's not him. Nice guitar music. Calm and relax. Reminds me of Parachutes, and that can never be bad

Track 4

Beginning sounds a bit Spanish or flamenco. I recognise the soft melancholic voice, this must be Beirut? I love this song, I'm putting this one on repeat! Forget number 2, THIS is my favourite one :D

Track 5

Very special beginning, could it be a soundtrack? Nice and relaxing but again with that special atmosphere. Like!

Track 6

Another style, we have piano now and a very beautiful man's voice. The song reminds me of Jonny Cash sometimes, maybe because of the "low" singing. I don't recognise it, but I love it! I really like to know who this is, I want to hear more from him.

Track 7

Aaghhh Arcade Fire, love love love love!!! This is one of my favourite bands and it's so great to hear one of their songs in this mixed tape! Thanks!

Track 8

This one sounds a bit "retro", is it an older song? There's a lot of instruments and tones and singing and it jumps from one style to another, there's just too much in it. This is the first song of the tape I don't like, sorry.

Track 9

The intro of song 9 reminds a bit of song 8 but luckily (:D) it gets better as soon as the singer starts. Not bad, but not my favourite song. In between singing there is too much "noise" again. Sorry.

Track 10

Ahh, Christmas! Hahaa, the intro really reminds me of Christmas time. Sounds like an older song again? We're still in the genre of numbers 8 and 9, but I like this one better then the previous two!

Track 11

Wow, interesting beginning! We're in a different genre now, and I like this one from the first note. After two listenings the song is stuck in my head and I can't stop listening to it, I play it again and again! Forget what I said before, THIS is my favourite! Very very very good song, I want to hear more from this band! Really curious who this is! The voice sounds familiar, but I can't put a name on it!

Track 12

Wow again! WOW WOW WOW! Could this be Echo & The Bunnymen? Awesome song, definately my favourite of the tape!

Track 13

The intro reminds me of an older song again, which is not my favourite genre. But then the signing starts and it grabs my attention from the first word. Nice song, I like it!

Track 14

Very very very nice intro. Very special voice, takes me back to the atmosphere of track one. What a perfect ending of this tape, feels like the circle is round. I love this one very very much.

Whoever made this tape: thank you very much. The music you gave me is 'softer' then the music I usually listen to, and that allowed me to discover some great new bands. And that's of course the reason I joined this project! I'm really curious to the track list, so I can check out some of the names. You gave me a few songs that I like soooo much and that are amongst my favourites already. I couldn't have wished for a better tape, so thanks again!!!

Time for my review of my mixtape entitled "Secret of Flyboat" (Complete with art!)

Track #1: We start off with a very futuristic-sounding track with many elements sampled into it. At this stage, it sounds like it could be the sister of Apparatjik’s ‘Electric Eye’. Then I hear familiar vocals, but I just can’t put a name to them! An unusual song, but it has a catchy beat! The piano bridge adds a softer element, really a poignant moment around the electro hip-hop elements.

****

Track #2: “Dynamite!” This sounds like classic Motown. I am instantly hooked, what an amazing transition. Puts me into a great mood. Horn sections are mesmerising, it’s got a great African beat which makes me nod my head in approval! Production quality on the track indicates that it might be a track from a few few years back…

******

Track #3: DOMINOES! As soon as I heard the intro to this, I was like awesome! I love the Big Pink’s debut album, this was my favourite track off it.

*****

Track #4: Song starts with a catchy shuffling of drums behind psychadelic-sounding flanging guitar. This is an old school jem. I love the chord changes in the verses. Sounds like a song that came straight out of the ‘Boat That Rocked’ movie soundtrack. Like the Beatles and Stones eras.

****

Track #5: An international flavour, with what I assume is an asian language. I like the musical side of the track, with the acoustic/electric/bass combination. I wish it was in English! Sounds like it could be a dance-floor filler.

***

Track #6: French. I can pick out this accent, even with only two years of learning the language in high school. It’s a swinging track, sung by a very provocative-sounding woman who could have come straight from the Moulin Rouge! A bit too old-school for me.

***

Track #7: Atmospheric, reverbed piano opens the track in a nice change before a deep techo beat erupts – this intro sounds amazing and like something I would listen to from that genre! Grouped vocals work perfectly. Loving this track, sounds like a French or German band singing English vocals. It’s a bit like Australia’s indie/electro bands Cut Copy or Midnight Juggernauts. This is the best new song I have heard so far!

*****

Track #8: Instant tempo and genre change, a sneaky groove opens this track – it sounds like Elbow with a different singer and with a more bluesy influence. Then the chorus sounds Arctic Monkeys, so of course I am liking all of the elements of the song so far! The lyrics are sneaky and sinister, and the music compliments it well.

*****

Track #9: Intro almost sounds like underwater drumming before a soaring harmony appears over top. It’s very Fleet Foxes, with banjo. A second burst of drumming is met with great excitement – this is a really great short folk/alternative track that fans of Grizzly Bear or Fleet Foxes would like. Probably the best surprise you’ve given me so far.

*****

Track #10: Electro opening, slowly builds up with an accompanying techno beat, sounding very ‘house’ genre at the moment. It’s a very reflective track, just a bit too repetitive for me.

***

Track #11: Loud vocals, another French band singing English vocals is it? Synths well represented here, but the background guitar stands out to me. Interesting chord changes, it’s actually a track that sounds very inspired by the English band Blur, with added synths for an electro feel. I want to really like it, but sometimes the synths are just too in your face. Infectiously catchy song nonetheless!

****

Track #12: Old school jazz introduces the track, complete with loud horn section. Then it’s transformed with what clearly is a remix or a track that’s sampled it. It’s made it more modern, really a weird sound but it makes you want to keep listening! Cement Mixer Party-party? I can hear the French influences again, this is a real 50-50 track that makes me smile. Saxophone section is gorgeous.

****

Track #13: This track starts off with a sound that is more familiar to me. It’s once again a bit like Fleet Foxes, but this time has female vocals and I realise it’s a country track! But the singer’s voice is so so familiar, a bit like Norah Jones – this might be some of her new stuff I am not familiar with!

****

Track #14: Acoustic folk and electro synths mix in the introduction with atmospheric strings and a toe-tapping beat. Vocals enter and I am immediately in love with this track, hoping it goes well for the remainder. Beat changes slightly, with more bass drum, but all the right elements remain. A beautiful track that is one of my favourite from the mix.

*****

Track #15: A quieter, acoustic track that sounds internationally familiar. It’s a great folk track that is soft and melodic, I like it but its nothing I am used to listening to. The vocals could be better, but the instrumentals are superb.

****

Track #16: This track almost signals the end of the tape. French vocals over calming acoustic guitars. It’s nice, but nothing spectacular – almost sounds like a French version of a song that’s been done before.

***

Track #17: Echoing notes soaked in reverb stutter through the opening of the track which turns out to be an instrumental. A nice choice as a closer.

***

Overall I liked the mixtape. Nothing blew me away and makes me want to chase the band up, having known the Big Pink track already. Tracks 7, 8, 9 and 14 were standouts. The mixtape varied the genres alot; tracks in French were difficult to listen to but it was great to get the international experience. An interesting blend of tracks that kept me listening with intent.

Thanks for all the informations! You know, afterwards I thought "well my mixtape maker is probably from UK or Australia..." Don't know why, just an intuition XD

Sure I'm gonna have a look to all these bands :) !

Everybody listen up! You have to listen to this tape XD

Thanks, I follow British and Australian Music the most with intent and am always listening out for the best new talent and seeking out the brilliant old stuff that I missed.

Like with some of the bands, the great thing about sharing them is that they are so rare and unknown, like Animal Kingdom, The Thrills and Little Comets that they tend to surprise you most when u listen to them and find out who they really are!

Let me know what u think of their other stuff, hit me up with some messages!

Glad you liked it, and thanks for recommending it to others!

and lol you didnt rush me! I was impressed with how keen you were!

review mine please.

I'm trying to do the same here (british music especially) but I think you're doing that better than me :D

That's why I'm very glad I had a mixtape from far away  ... And from someone like you btw, I discovered so many things :)

I would be too bad if a tape like this isn't shared ;) ...

Glad I didn't rush you! Haha, only very good music can make me enthusiastic that way :p Hope I didn't scare you :D (mmh should not use this freaky smiley, lol!)

Oh and I think I guessed who's your mixtape maker XD

Here's my review:

Track 01. Opening the mix with a very nice (what sounds like cello) piece. It sounds a bit bittersweet. At times feeling sorrow and sadness, but at the same time at points being uplifting. I could picture this being part of a movie score. I like how in the middle the pace picks up and creates more tension. Then it eases out at the end.

Track 04. The song starts with with a nice clean guitar riff, and an 80's feeling beat. This song is very upbeat and extremely catchy. The vocals sort of remind me of The Killers (though I haven't really listened to them, so i might be entirely wrong :P). Although the song has an 80's feel it still feels somewhat modern. The song seems like it would be very danceable and makes you want to move along with the beat.

Track 05. (titled Quiet). It's a lullaby feeling song. the vocals are slightly reminiscent of Wayne from the Flaming Lips.

Track 06. A really great way to transition into this song. Breaking the song open with heavy drums, and then synths the song already sounds like it will be a really catchy song. The vocals come in with a lot of reverb giving an almost angelic feel to it. Then a male vocalist sings, with the female vocals harmonizing in the background. The song is very catchy throughout. I really like the driving bass notes at the end. The chorus is extremely catchy with multiple voices singing various things. The harmonies are very nice in this song. I like then how the song gets quiet and the drums stop and the singing starts singing & mentioning Giraffes. The song then picks up again with the drums being the driving force.

Track 10. This song starts off sounding like a sampled drum beat running through a vinyl player. The music is quite minimal, just guitars on both years some synths on the side. The vocals are also harmonizing in the center. It still sounds quite nice with it being simple. The person seems to be singing about someone else he used to care about and the few instruments in it make the song appear much more personal. Then a full drum set kicks in and the song becomes almost danceable and extremely catchy. The song then goes back again to how it sounded in the beginning. Another chorus comes up as before. I can almost imagine it being related to halloween. It has a creepy kinda feel with the vibrato on the instrument on the right. Also this part sort of reminds me of monster mash.

Track 11. The song starts off with an electric piano sounding as if being listening from a vinyl system. The song immediately is very catchy. The melody seems as though it's been done before but it still sounds different. The catchiness of the verses makes me think of the spring/summer. The bass is really nice within this song, and by having the walking bass line gives the feeling of movement. I can sort of imagine Paul McCartney or The Beatles writing a song like this.

Track 12. Song starts off with a single guitar riff and drum beat. Then another guitar line comes in. The playing is kind of sloppy, but fits. Synths come in playing chords, and then single notes. The synths then mimic the guitar riff as well. This song has sort of a dark feel to it, yet feels quirky with the synthsiser horns... almost a feeling of humor at some moments.

Track 13. The song starts with snare drum being hit and a guitar riff being played. The song then becomes more full with vocals coming in as well as piano and more guitars. The song sort of has a 60's feel in terms of the melody of the song, but still feels more modern. Definitely the sound of an indie-pop band.

Track 14. Starting off the song with a piano and guitar already it seems as though that the song might be a ballad. The vocals sound very familiar... perhaps Metric? You can definitely tell that it sounds like Emily Haines, she has that distinct kind of voice. I like the chorus to the song, the harmonies are very nice. This song seems like a very nicely written song overall. Her voice is very nice and works really well with the music... overall a very catchy song.

Track 15. Just from the beginning notes I can already tell I like the song. The piano is very nice with the chords. The melody with the chords give a sense of sadness, or of reflection. It still sounds very beautiful... piano is one instrument that I always enjoy to hear

Track 16. (Besides having the title of the band and song when I open the document :P), I could guess that it was probably Steely Dan or a band from around their time. They have a 70's soft rock feel to them. I have listened to this band a little bit. I really enjoy the slide guitar within the song. Overall just a nicely written song, one of which I haven't heard before by the band.

Track 17. Even without the title (was also on itunes when i opened it)... you could definitely tell that it's BB King... not just by the vocals but also his distinct guitar sound/style. I've only heard a few BB King songs before, this one is quite a treat. It breaks him away from his typical blues sound and puts BB into a songwriting style, which I feel works quite well for him. I could see myself listening to more of these. I also like how the song builds towards the end and there's vocalists. Brings a nice close to the mix.

Favorites: 4, 5,6, 14, 15 ,17

Nice job with the mix I enjoyed all the songs for the most part. Tracks 12 & 13 were probably my least favorite.

Yeah I had some trouble deleting some of the info >.< some of them were .mp4 files that I couldn't edit in Windows Explorer...

you didn't review tracks 2, 3, 7, 8, 9... plz don't tell me I forgot them >.< they're all some of the best on there I think phooey

Yeah well I made your mixtape, hope you enjoyed it, and I can upload the others if I FOOLishly forgot to upload them. :nice:

Ohhhhhhh I almost put his song on my mix! I love him!

And I KNOW your blog, I discovered it a few weeks ago !! Thats insane O___O

Time for my review of my mixtape entitled "Secret of Flyboat" (Complete with art!)

A real "coup de coeur" this song is really striking!

***

Tt was risky to choose this song but the lyrics are truly sublime, poignant!

I tried to do my best even though much of choice was not entirely wise? I took the risk to put French songs yes I know  sorry. Thank you for taking the time to make a brilliant analysis. It was a pleasure but it was very hard, I do not know what track to put in.

Sorry for my English, my review comes soon I LOVE MY TRACKLIST!

See ya! :D

Italian Plastic >

Hiya, nice to meet you :D

First of all I'd like to apologize for the female voices, I was reading reviews last night and I realised my tape was maybe a bit too into female voices (well, that's my tastes indeed I guess). I then got scared you would hate everything.

I also did a bit of researches on you when I got to know who I was making the mixtape for, and after a while I decided not to change any of the songs I had decided to put before I got to know your identity, cause I thought you might discover some new stuff. I was also quite sure you would hate the beginning of my tape and enjoy the end, seems I was WRONG!

Last but not least, you might have noticed it was quite eclectic but I think I pretty much put my soul in the heart of the tape so... I hope it wasn't too cheesy or boring.

Ok now...

1) I LIEK! the guitar and drums are all awesome...haha, I actually quite like her voice. I recognise this though, is it Florence & The Machine? Anyway, I really like this one

That surprised me, well I'm afraid to announce you you're WRONG :D (and you'll be wrong most of the time, get ready ahah). That's GOSSIP, one of my fav band and probably one of the best live band ever. Their last album is less interesting but great nonetheless.

2) Cool transition to this song! I like this one too :P and I recognise it! is it the Yeah Yeah Yeah's? :uhoh: This is good, I especially love teh chorus

Thanks, I really worked on the transitions. This ain't Yeah Yeah Yeah's (btw I don't like the YYYs that much, nor Florence+tM) but The Kills, a kind of garage/alternative band formed by the impressive Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince (who's more famous because of his girlfriend - who's no other than Kate Moss...)

3) I love the start with the guitars, and it get's better as it goes on :surprised: some cool effects when you get to the end.

I got scared you would find it a bit too repetitive. That's an awesome (imo) indie band from England, their first (and only) album is a blast : The Foals.

4) The XX! :P I love you, this song is awesome. Probably my favourite by them (Crystalised)

I'm sorry you recognized them but I just HAD to put there. Seeing them live soon, exciting!

5) This one is quite cool actually, but I don't like it as much as the others. Is it New Order? I've never really heard much of their stuff but this sounds what I expect them to sound like.

Sorry but... third ''wrong'':D That's the Editors, I thought you would know them too. Their last album is my fav from 2009, a masterpiece, I love Tom Smith's voice and the lyrics are awesome. I chose that song cause it wasn't ''too famous'' (unlike Papillon).

6) I didn't really like this one to be honest...it sounds like it's been made by the people who do bad game music :uhoh: sorry :P

Ok right, let me explain, we're ''entering my soul'' with this song. This is actually from Jam & Spoon, don't ask me who they are, I have no idea although I really like the instrumentation on this song. Anyway the point is, the singer is Dolores O'Riordan, my all-time-idol, singer from The Cranberries (you know Zombie, right ? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts]YouTube- The Cranberries - Zombie[/ame] ) and I thought that putting a song on which Dolores participated instead of a Cranberries song would be more interesting, especially cause I think this one unveils the awesomeness and the beauty of her voice. Anyway, seems it was a bit too ''personal'' to be shared;)

7) seems quite dubsteppy at the beginning..then Chris Martin start's singing?!?! what the hell :P I've never heard this song but I really like it. I've gone off Coldplay recently but this song is nice.

This song kinda is to Chris what the previous one was to Dolores O'Riordan, if you see what I mean... I adore this song and preferred to put this one rather than a more mainstream Coldplay song. Happy you didn't know it! (Hu... don't worry I'll put the tracklist at the end of my post ahah :P)

8) this one is alright, I like the voice...I recognise it, haha. It seems quite cliche though

I KNOW, I usually don't listen to that stuff, so sorry. But this Adele song is just way too awesome and moving. Being in the middle, this is the ''heart'' of the mixtape. I guess I should have sent this to a girl, sorry XD

9) This one's interesting :uhoh: I quite like it! niccee

French band! I thought I had to promote a bit my country but I didn't dare putting too many songs in a foreign language, so I chose AaRON as they sing in English most of the time. I don't think they're THAT good technically speaking (and after seeing them live I can say they sound pretty stupid in real life), but I love their album nonetheless, give it a try if you like this song.

Btw I've always wondered if they sounded French or not... as a native speaker, could you tell they were Frenchies?

10) Good! They sound like a typical 90's UK band...I don't really like the chorus (Radiohead kind of put me off cheesy melodical chorus'..)

Those are definitely the less impressive band of my mixtape, I had put another song there (R.E.M I think) but changed it at the last minute thinking they were too famous. I can't deny that it's cheesy and that the album isn't that great, but that's my fav track from them so I thought it was fair to put it there. Oh I forgot... That's The Servant. Dan Black's (singer) voice kinda annoys me sometimes...

11) Nice grooove. I like the backwardsy singing. You really like female vocalists!

Yep, nothing to add except from the fact that's Siobhan Donaghy. I liked the backward idea.

12) Cool intro. This reminds me of a lot of New Zealand bands that I've heard. I like this one

The Dandy Warhols! I ultra love this song. Listen to it again and again and again :P

13) I don't like this very much :uhoh: cool acoustic guitar

AHHHHH, alright this is one of my fav band (after the Cranberries, of course), they're called Hey. I knew I'd put them here cause they're rock and I actually chose this ''acoustic guitar'' song because of what I thought you'd like. I was so wrong, I wish I could tell you ''please check other songs from them, they're awesome'' but you might not be too interested in them now :D Anyway you can try this one [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czujclci6uA]YouTube- Hey - sic[/ame] or ask me for others if ever you want to. I'm glad you didn't say ''I don't understand the lyrics, it sucks'' though, cause they're Polish and I'm French so I don't understand the lyrics either (but I do always look for the translations of their songs). Anyway I uber love them!

14) baahahahahahah. Nirvana!...kinda. I really dislike countryish music and the banjo so I'll give this one a pass :P I prefer the original

Sorry about that, once again that might have been a bit too personal ahah? Anyway let me introduce you to Patti Smith who's kinda a ''monument'' in the domain of arts. I liked the cover and I thought the fact it was Nirvana could make this song very easy to listen.

15) Fleetwood Mac? haha...I quite like this :uhoh:

:D And now, to let you know how I built my mixtape: every Gossip gig opens (or closes) with that Fleetwood Mac track - which I love - so I thought it's be coherent to start with Gossip and end with Fleetwood!

First of all, I love the artwork, I'm guessing it's based on The XX's album?

Here's an explanation on how I made the artwork, nothing impressive I tell ya... http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2023/image2pk.png

I hope you'll like new bands you might have discovered and that you didn't dislike too much the fact there were lotsa female voices in there. Sorry I didn't meet your expectation. Feel free to tell me more about it, I'd be happy to share more :)

Well I didn't want a "soft" intro that's why I picked "Try Me" (so yeah your guess was right about the title). "High Horses" is definitely one of my most favorite songs ever, I am so glad you like it. Then I added the 3rd song on saturday (which is when I heard it for the first time) to this tape, looks like I made a good choice.

“Chicago” is a really nice song, I know the intro is a little odd but it still is good. You were right about number 7, he does sound a lot like Chris. the ending of “Special” always leaves me like :wtf: too :P. About track 9… I am in love with Calleb’s voice, haven’t really crossed my mind that he could be a reggae singer though :P. That comment about Rob Thomas' pronunciation made me

And finally Muse's song had to be there just because :P

Glad you like most of the songs and thanks for the nice review! :D

Really?!? :o I had no remote idea it was you :P...just being a good sport..

I actually started singing Set The Fire To The Third Bar and one of my friends commented that it was Snow Patrol, just before I got home :P

Naturally I was right about the Exogenesis Symphony  and track 13........stoopid :P

The mix was a little one sided, that being the only problem. And yes, you are right to download this mix, class.

12. Mohammed – The Dandy Warhols (Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia)

  LOVE this band!!

(if you haven't seen the documentary 'DIG!', go check it out! It's about their early days and the beginning of their success and the 'competition' they had with the band Brian Johnston Massacre. The filmaker followed them for about 10 years and you see how one band became successfull and the other one just fall into pieces...)

/will DL your mix tonight!

Actually, one changed back to it's orignal title

^ Oh you must be a PC user then :p

I know a friend of mine tried to solve the problem but it seems it was only perfect on Mac... well doesn't matter I guess you're speaking about Hey and I don't think anyone has ever heard about them :D

Anyway he's going to be famous on the forum (or maybe he already is?)

Track #1: Its starting off very cool. Its a really mellow sound. I am really loving it. Its sending my mind spiraling, it has such a unique sound, very imaginative.... and I think I know who it is :) Is that Imogen Heap? Whatever it is I like it!

Track #2: Another one starting off mellow, which strangely suits my current mood. I love a good instrumental.

Track #3: We need to become friends! Whoever made this mixtape has got to be one of the coolest people on the face of the earth. Music means everything to me, and I truly like what I'm hearing off this list so far. I like the vocals a lot, they are reminiscent of a mixture of Phil Collins and Derek Webb.

Track #4: I was starting to crave guitar, and here it is! NICE voice! I'm in love with it, and I'm only 1 minute into the song! Its weird, I'm about to put these onto a cd.... and I don't even know what they are.... I like this. Oh! Hello violins! Welcome!

Track #5: It has sort of a tunnel sound to it, which is sort of interesting. Different voice.... nice. Ok, this sounds great. Its mellow, but moving at the same time. The strings sound really good with his voice. Nice addition of piano too.

Track #6: I know already that I'm going to lose hours listening to this one. The drums sound really good, I would play this loud on a good car stereo. That's where I listen to most music, because it just seems to sink in deeper.

Track #7: Good beat. Not my favorite, but I love the lyrics, and will definitely play it a lot.

Track #8: Upbeat! But its still chill. Its definitly different, my friends are going to hate this one.

Track #9: Good party track.

Track #10: I know this one! Lovely, I like it! Pheonix right... whatever it is I'm glad to have it!

Track #11: "Electronic" would be my word for this one. Not love at first listen, but I like it ok. Its fun, and I'm dancing!

Track #12: OF COURSE I LOVE THIS ONE! The Killers are among my favorites!

Track #13: Just ok. I can see it growing on me.

Track #14: Are you F-ing kidding!?!? I'm only the HUGEST Mutemath fan alive!!!!!!!! Really! I have been trying to get a live version of this song for ages! Oh hang on.... ITS A MIX!!!! I am floored! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are my new best friend! Wow.... small world! If your a mega-fan check out my youtube page: http://www.youtube.com/lilworkerb and leave me a message! I MUST know who you are!

My mix-taper saved the upbeat songs for the last half of the list, which is different but very cool. Great taste. This list is all over the place from electronic to softer sounds, its all very good.

Hey, this is mine, very glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I organized it in such a way that made the mix progress to heavier beat that makes you move as the tape closed toward the end. Glad to hear you are a Mute Math fan :) I saw them live recently and best show I have ever seen.

Here is my tracklist, would be appreciative if others listened to and reviewed my mixtape, thanks.

01 Gone Forever by Ulrich Schnauss (Not a well known artist who does some awesome electronic stuff, not imogen heap though :P)

02 Tri-State by Above & Beyond

03 I Feel Love by Static Revenger

04 Morning Song by Zero 7

05 Mirrorball by Elbow

06 Theysay by Josiah Leming (An artist who was kicked out of American Idol before the final 30 people, I think he is pretty talented and really like this song)

07 Chemicals Collide by Cloud Cult

08 Wrestlers by Hot Chip

09 Local Joke by Neon Indian

10 Lisztomania by Phoenix (It seems a good amount of people used this track)

11 Little Secrets by Passion Pit

12 Sweet Talk by The Killers

13 Raindrops by Basement Jaxx

14 Stall Out (Live) + Burden Outro by Mute Math (I mixed this live version together with an Outro from another track by the same band).
