You know Rostropovich? And u liek teh bach?

Violet I love you

Yep. I have Rostropvich's Return to Russia album, where he conducts in his first concert in his home country after being unexiled. That disc includes Tchiakovsky's 6th symphony, among other things.

As for Bach, maaan. I love Bach. I wish I had recordings of the cello suites; those things are classic. I have a few of the Brandenburg concertos, however. :)

Aw shit I want that.

My dad apparently had ALL 6 cello suites on CD and gave them to me as a present... Jesus, they are SO good. Rostropovich was such a good interpretive artist... *whistle* When I first started listening to the one I put on that mix I was literally stunned... hah it's so good.

If you have specific track requests or anything I could give you some of them, since you don't have them. :nice:

That sounds excellent. If you want the Rostropovich, I could get that for you. :nice:

edit: ok really the second one... apparently I don't have the first ripped to my computer, wtf

Hey, it's all good. IDK when I'll have time to get the disc for you. Tomorrow is INSANELY busy for me. :sweatdrop:

swallowed semen... oh... didn't Nick already point this out...

Track 1: Nice melody, I like it

The voices are good

The lyrics are interesting

Track 2: It starts with just instruments and then the beat kicks in

It's mellow, good song

Track 3: I love this song! :D

I was looking for this song for awhile now.

The guy's voice is nice and the lyrics are great

The melody is slow and fast

Track 4: It's starts very fast

The beat is cool, but the guy's voice sounds old fashioned

The lyrics are okay

Track 5: I already know this song, It's a great song though

The lyrics are very clever and I like the girl's voice

I really like the melody, it has a cool mellow vibe

Track 6: It starts of with a nice piano and then the voice and drums kick in fast

The guy's voice is weird and kind of hard to understand

Track 7: Interesting song, the guy's voice is pretty low

I like the melody, it's slow but not too slow

It's hard to figure out the lyrics sometimes

Track 8: The singing starts really fast on this song

It's another mellow song, the guy's voice is good

I like it, it's a good song :)

Track 9: It starts off with a twinkle sound and then the drum and guitar kicks in

Another guy singing lol, the lyrics are interesting

Track 10: It's upbeat, with a loud guitar riff and drumes

some of it is slow, not much singing (which is hard to understand sometimes)

Track 11: Can't go wrong with this song, it's a classic

It's my favourite song by The Killers, it's really catchy and awesome

Track 12: It starts off with a cool guitar riff, then the singing kicks in

The guy's voice reminds me of Elvis Costello

I really like the end of it, it's awesome

Track 13: doesn't work :/

Track 14: it's protected, so I can't listen to it

Track 15: I just started liking this band :)

This song starts off slow, then it kicks in

It's mellow in a good way with strings and nice melody

Track 16: It has a good intro with some crazy drums

Melody is all over the place and the singing is weird

the end is pretty cool

Track 17: very weird song, instrumental

some of it sounds like rain

Track 18: well, it's better than the last song

nice melody, not sure about the lyrics

I like the end part the best

Summary: I liked most of the songs, it could have been better though

Glad you liked most of them, bummer that a few didn't work. :\

Also, 17 wasn't instrumental, the vocals were done with a voice box thingy.

^^ I've tried that before. It's only a free trial.

^ THANKS! :D

EDIT: OMG, I'm lost. I don't know what to get, and it's telling me I have to buy this stuff. :dead:

Here is my review for the spare tape I got first, thank you Jon Nolan :)

> Track 1: mellow track, male voice, soft, exatly the type of song I could expect in an indie movie. Love it !

> Track 2: begins with guitar, kinda melancholic, male singing, beautiful voice.

> Track 3: still acoustic song with guitar, reminds me of Chris Garneau, the man is swishing, it's calm and peaceful.

(loving the mix so far, totally feels like tunes I usually listen to)

> Track 4: mhhh... wait.... OK this is going to bug me, i KNOW this voice but I cant find the singer's name dammit ! Besides my fucked up memory I like this song, though it's a shame it's only lasting 1m30sec or so.

> Track 5: OH MY !! this is a gem, the singer's voice is so pure ! I think this is my fav of the mix !

> Track 6: female vocals, much appreciated after all those men ahah! Sounds like Natalie Imbruglia (who I love btw). Soothing song, feels good.

> Track 7: alright this one has a country vibe… I just cant. Sorry.

> Track 8: I’ve heard this song before, it has a Chris Garneau spirit too. Nice, I like the lyrics, though not my fav.

> Track 9: guitar/voice, sounds like a young emerging artist, moving song, good lyrics.

> Track 10: love the beginning with the sound of the waves, mellow/sad song, male voice, but then a women voice backs it up, gorgeous ! LOVE it !

It may have been short (10 songs) but I enjoyed the fact that all the songs got well together. I would say it was some sort of acoustic/folk mix which was great for me cause Im not the 'violent music' type ^^ Can become my fav' mix to fall asleep to (which is a compliment from me). Although track 7 should have been out of the mix, I totally fell in love with track 5 and track 10 !! ^^

Glad you liked most of them, bummer that a few didn't work. :\

Anyways here's the link and tracklisting:

EDIT: OMG, I'm lost. I don't know what to get, and it's telling me I have to buy this stuff. :dead:

It is but I got it from there and you can keep using it for as long as you like, I've been using it for years, it just bothers me telling me to buy it...

All the info was on the songs somehow. :/ I'll just go along with this thing though.

Track 1 - Didn't work (protected)

Track 2 - Starts with a nice drum beat, guitar rolls in, bass follows, then the vocals. Lyrics are bit too reptative for me, but overall a solid song.

Track 3 - Didn't work (protected)

Track 4 - My favorite Coldplay song. The song is already amazing without Chris's vocals, so think how amazing it is with his voice.

Track 5 - A fun song with cool rhythm. The vocals sound old fashioned. The repetition of "And the DJ" at the end annoyed me a little. I guess I don't like too much repition.

Track 6 - Another one of my favorite Coldplay songs. The piano is amazing.

Track 7 - Like the intro. As the song progresses it has an interesting instrumental peice in the background. I like the acoustic guitar in this song. Lyrics are interesting as well, seems like a fast sad song.

Track 8 - Keep bringing some of my favorite Coldplay songs.

Track 9 - Sugarcult. The drum beat gave them away. Plus I used to listen to this song way too much when it first came out. Amazingly, I remember the lyrics. Good song.

Track 10 - Yay! The Killers. Probably their most popular song. The guitar in this song is fun to listen to, how it goes up and down and back up consistently.

Track 11 - Good song from Viva La Vida. I love the lyrics of this song. Love the clapping. The mix of electric and acoustic guitars are awesome (best of both worlds ;))

Track 12 - I remember this song from playing Guitar Hero like a nerd. I love the guitar and lyrics and drums. The change from fast paced to slowed down back to fast paced is really cool.

Track 13 - Another Coldplay. The part towards the end just screams "Sing Along!"

Summary - While it was a good mix of songs, I wish there was a wider variety of artists. I also was looking forward to finding new music, and I've heard of all the artists besides one. I did enjoy it though, so mission accomplished I guess. :P

EDIT: Yeah, I remember finding that song on iTunes and the review from the iTunes staff mentioned Coldplay, which caught my eye and lead me to getting that song. :P Funny

^^ What version do I get? There's 57340952034523 links here.

Alright here's my review:

Track 1: What a good start to the tape! Starts with a good base line, and a British voice comes in. Love that, I’ve been a bit of an anglophile lately. Piano line is a good driving force in the chorus, and the lyrics are really interesting. Lots of brass and different instruments towards the end. I’d really be interested in hearing more of this artist. There’s a rather annoying scream at the end though...

Track 2: French. Very french. It actually kind of made me laugh when I first started hearing it, I’d really like to know what they are saying. I can imagine that it’s about something tongue-in-cheek. The backup singing and voices are kind of funny, as are many of the noises that the singer makes. The song is based around a drum beat and occasional guitar line, interrupted by isolated talking by the singer. The guitar line is repeated more towards the end and the riff isn’t bad. it didn’t really pop out at me, but I’m broadening my horizons here. not a bad song.

Track 3: Interesting song. Starts out with interesting electronic music, which carries on through the whole song as the accompaniment to the singing. It almost seems at first that the song is not in english, but you get used to the enunciation. Not my style, but interesting. Ends with some nice asian music.

Track 4: A rock ballad of sorts. It’s a little melancholy, but the melodies are interesting. sickkk guitar solo. :guitarist:that’d be really difficult to do, I know. not sure who thought it was a good idea to put all that organ in halfway through though, I’m not really a fan of the second half of the song. It’s going on for a really long time....

Track 5: YES Radiohead. Awesome beat behind this one. I actually don’t have this song, and now I really want to know what it’s called. A really chill song, one of those that would be good to listen to while on a really long drive.

Track 6: This is awesome. really old school. not just 70s old school, this sounds like it’s full-on from the 40s. Very jazzy, and the woman’s voice is wonderful. really nice trumpet, and I like the lyrics: “It’s nice work if you can get it, and you can get it if you try.” You can still learn a lot from music from this time, unless I am being fooled and this is actually new, but I would be very surprised. Nice to hear some stuff like that.

Track 7: A really chill ambience song. It blends in very nicely with the last, since the beat includes an instrument that could possibly be a saxophone, and this girl’s voice is also really nice. The periodic guitar reminds me of a James Bond movie, and while I’m on that thought, this song has a James Bond kinda feel to it, not the action parts, but you’d understand if you heard it. Sounds like Thievery Corporation? Though I haven’t heard a lot of that band either... anyway, a nice chill song.

Track 8: Opens with organ/synth thing that I don’t know the name of. I probably should know that by now. anyway, a French, slightly raspy male voice comes in, and I wish I knew what he was saying. This one’s a rocker with a decent guitar solo at the end, but I can’t really appreciate these types of solos, though I understand that this was done with difficulty. The organ/synth continues through the whole song, which I’m not really a fan of. I think I might like this song more if there was a different singer, because the melodies are very original.

Track 9: oooooh I like that piano in the intro. very nice. WOAH waitaminute... that’s Billie Joe Armstrong :wtf: I’ve never heard a Green Day song like this. or with lyrics like this. “My beating heart belongs to you,” “I’m sending all my love to you,” etc etc. well I’ve never been a green day fan, but this isn’t a bad song. I dunno, it could use a little life. Or maybe that’s because I’m a little high strung right now. Hmm.

Track 10: really soft female singing over a simple guitar line, and then only over a....baritone sax line? well I suppose if I listened more and tried to interpret the lyrics, there would be a very deep meaning. unfortunately I have no brain power for that at the moment. Then some more old-school synth/organ and a beat comes in. I don’t know why but right now I’m picturing a medieval jousting match... Then it goes back to the singing over the low base line, and ends with some mixture of the synth and some more guitar. I did listen to it the whole way through a few times, all 6 minutes 53 seconds of it, but it’s really not my cup of tea at all. sorry.

Track 11: alright this song is definitely sounding a bit more exciting and upbeat. AH! the UNMISTAKABLE voice of Pete Doherty. Babyshambles probably. This is good, I like the Libertines a lot and have been meaning to listen to more Babyshambles and Pretty Dirty Things and such. Very interesting lyrics, and nice, happy acoustic guitar. Repeats the line: “It’s a long long way from Bollywood to Battersea." I like.

Track 12: :awesome:This is also an upbeat, jaunty piano-driven song. “I got my superhero outfit on” – just the thing I like to hear. another tongue-in-cheek song. This singer is definitely a character and the lyrics are cool. There’s a good beat behind it, and it’s a really energetic song. It’s also really reminiscent of Sympathy For the Devil by the Stones. Minus the awesome guitar solos. And the voice is also very similar to that of Mick Jagger. This song has a lot of attitude. I like it. and the last line, as the crowd screams: “Shake. Those. White. Asses of yours!”

Track 13: And of course, a Muser for an Ender. :D what else can I say?

So all in all, it was a pretty eclectic mix, and that was impressive. it was pretty chill, and though there were a lot of tracks I didn’t like, it got a lot better towards the end, more my style. I’m sure that you really like all of those songs, Mixtape Maker, and it’d definitely take some getting used to for me. good job though, and I liked the picture that came with it :)

EDIT: I forgot to say thank you!!:D

that was fun. good job Mixtape Maker:nice:

OH CHRIST, I SHOULD HAVE SPOTTED THAT! :P

Don't listen to Yellow House all that much, hehe.

Nice music taste you've got.

I like Yellow House more than Veckatimest

Italian Plastic >

Hiya, nice to meet you :D

First of all I'd like to apologize for the female voices, I was reading reviews last night and I realised my tape was maybe a bit too into female voices (well, that's my tastes indeed I guess). I then got scared you would hate everything.

I also did a bit of researches on you when I got to know who I was making the mixtape for, and after a while I decided not to change any of the songs I had decided to put before I got to know your identity, cause I thought you might discover some new stuff. I was also quite sure you would hate the beginning of my tape and enjoy the end, seems I was WRONG!

Last but not least, you might have noticed it was quite eclectic but I think I pretty much put my soul in the heart of the tape so... I hope it wasn't too cheesy or boring.

Ok now...

That surprised me, well I'm afraid to announce you you're WRONG :D (and you'll be wrong most of the time, get ready ahah). That's GOSSIP, one of my fav band and probably one of the best live band ever. Their last album is less interesting but great nonetheless.

Thanks, I really worked on the transitions. This ain't Yeah Yeah Yeah's (btw I don't like the YYYs that much, nor Florence+tM) but The Kills, a kind of garage/alternative band formed by the impressive Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince (who's more famous because of his girlfriend - who's no other than Kate Moss...)

I got scared you would find it a bit too repetitive. That's an awesome (imo) indie band from England, their first (and only) album is a blast : The Foals.

I'm sorry you recognized them but I just HAD to put there. Seeing them live soon, exciting!

Sorry but... third ''wrong'':D That's the Editors, I thought you would know them too. Their last album is my fav from 2009, a masterpiece, I love Tom Smith's voice and the lyrics are awesome. I chose that song cause it wasn't ''too famous'' (unlike Papillon).

Ok right, let me explain, we're ''entering my soul'' with this song. This is actually from Jam & Spoon, don't ask me who they are, I have no idea although I really like the instrumentation on this song. Anyway the point is, the singer is Dolores O'Riordan, my all-time-idol, singer from The Cranberries (you know Zombie, right ?

) and I thought that putting a song on which Dolores participated instead of a Cranberries song would be more interesting, especially cause I think this one unveils the awesomeness and the beauty of her voice. Anyway, seems it was a bit too ''personal'' to be shared;)

This song kinda is to Chris what the previous one was to Dolores O'Riordan, if you see what I mean... I adore this song and preferred to put this one rather than a more mainstream Coldplay song. Happy you didn't know it! (Hu... don't worry I'll put the tracklist at the end of my post ahah :P)

I KNOW, I usually don't listen to that stuff, so sorry. But this Adele song is just way too awesome and moving. Being in the middle, this is the ''heart'' of the mixtape. I guess I should have sent this to a girl, sorry XD

French band! I thought I had to promote a bit my country but I didn't dare putting too many songs in a foreign language, so I chose AaRON as they sing in English most of the time. I don't think they're THAT good technically speaking (and after seeing them live I can say they sound pretty stupid in real life), but I love their album nonetheless, give it a try if you like this song.

Btw I've always wondered if they sounded French or not... as a native speaker, could you tell they were Frenchies?

Those are definitely the less impressive band of my mixtape, I had put another song there (R.E.M I think) but changed it at the last minute thinking they were too famous. I can't deny that it's cheesy and that the album isn't that great, but that's my fav track from them so I thought it was fair to put it there. Oh I forgot... That's The Servant. Dan Black's (singer) voice kinda annoys me sometimes...

Yep, nothing to add except from the fact that's Siobhan Donaghy. I liked the backward idea.

The Dandy Warhols! I ultra love this song. Listen to it again and again and again :P

AHHHHH, alright this is one of my fav band (after the Cranberries, of course), they're called Hey. I knew I'd put them here cause they're rock and I actually chose this ''acoustic guitar'' song because of what I thought you'd like. I was so wrong, I wish I could tell you ''please check other songs from them, they're awesome'' but you might not be too interested in them now :D Anyway you can try this one

or ask me for others if ever you want to. I'm glad you didn't say ''I don't understand the lyrics, it sucks'' though, cause they're Polish and I'm French so I don't understand the lyrics either (but I do always look for the translations of their songs). Anyway I uber love them!

Sorry about that, once again that might have been a bit too personal ahah? Anyway let me introduce you to Patti Smith who's kinda a ''monument'' in the domain of arts. I liked the cover and I thought the fact it was Nirvana could make this song very easy to listen.

:D And now, to let you know how I built my mixtape: every Gossip gig opens (or closes) with that Fleetwood Mac track - which I love - so I thought it's be coherent to start with Gossip and end with Fleetwood!

Here's an explanation on how I made the artwork, nothing impressive I tell ya... http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/2023/image2pk.png

I hope you'll like new bands you might have discovered and that you didn't dislike too much the fact there were lotsa female voices in there. Sorry I didn't meet your expectation. Feel free to tell me more about it, I'd be happy to share more :)

:)

Cooooool!

I was really wrong :uhoh: But I know quite a few of the artists in this. I remember Gossip's name and I might of heard one of their songs..

The Foals? I'm pretty sure one of their guy's was on Never Mind The Buzzcocks once :P happy to hear that.

ahhh The Editors... His voice is really similar to the New Order singer's, heh.

I'll be checking out The Dandy Warhols, who I'm pretty sure I've heard before.

Patti Smith! I know the name, of course but I don't think I've ever heard her songs.

And, No! There were something's I didn't like too much but it was a great mix! don't feel like I hated it :nice:

^ Neither has mine, as far as I can see.
