February 4, 201016 yr Okay so I have to do this huge semester-long project on one song. Naturally, I chose to do Coldplay as my band. Now all I need is a song. It needs to be about the meaning of life OR drugs OR religion OR some kind of world crisis...basically it has to have some sort of deeper meaning, and it cannot be a love song. We have to be able to connect our song to different social and philisophical themes and also to link it with the beliefs and values of the band members. SO...does anyone have a good idea? I just need some suggestions and I can pick from there. THANKS.
February 4, 201016 yr Author Yeah I thought of that. But it's a little...repetitive. I love the song, but I need some more lyrics to work with. I don't want to do Viva la Vida because I know that in the past a bunch of students chose that song. :P I'm kind of thinking Twisted Logic or Violet Hill.

I would pick a different band if I were you. Lol, actually let me think... Do it about Such A Rush... it's about humanity's struggle for money in the face of eventual death etc etc etc, you could make some good points about that. (If you agree with my interpretation. :P) Others include Bigger Stronger, Brothers & Sisters, Animals, possibly Spies... Really though, you can make some pretty good points about Such A Rush. Or I can at least. :P

February 4, 201016 yr How You See the World No.2 Shit how could I forget that >.< that one's good too.
February 4, 201016 yr Author I would pick a different band if I were you. I thought about that, but my teacher gave out a list of suggested bands (with members that had strong values/opinions on world issues) and Coldplay was on it!
February 4, 201016 yr Author How You See the World No.2 I was thinking about that one too, thanks! Ahhhh there are so many songs to choose from!
February 4, 201016 yr I thought about that, but my teacher gave out a list of suggested bands (with members that had strong values/opinions on world issues) and Coldplay was on it! Well yeah they are kind of activisty and popular enough for the teacher to suggest, that's true. I would just worry about How You See The World No. 2 because the lyrics are slightly obvious, there might not be enough room for legit interpretation exactly. I mean you can sort of just list the lyrics and then go "yep just look at em... they're talking about the world n shit" as opposed to actually offering something a little less obvious.
February 4, 201016 yr Author Yes, I see what you mean. Ugghhh I can't decide. I really suck at interpreting songs. Maybe I'll go to my teacher with a list of possible songs and their lyrics and he can help me!

Well true, some of the lyrics are obvious, but there isn't really a specific issue mentioned, it's just "how you see the world" so you could talk about YOUR interpretation of the lyrics (what Coldplay mean by them) and how you view the world's current state. (?)
February 4, 201016 yr For coldplay..."Such a Rush", "How you see the world v.2", "Twisted Logic", "Violet Hill" and maybe "Murder" or "Animals" are your best bets if you're shooting for activisty.

February 4, 201016 yr Before reading everyone else's posts, I had thought of such a rush and don't panic. But as you said, the second one may not have too much to be said about the lyrics since it keeps repeating itself. Anyway, you can come up with great points from it. Besides this whole money related meaning, I think you could come up with subjects like people having no goals or perspectives in life, people's selfish, people's carelessness about the others and about the greater good... This ''rush'' thing can mean be related to lots of stuff in my opinion. I don't know, I guess it's all in your hands, Emily. :) I think it's a matter of which Coldplay song you like better because you've got plenty of material
February 4, 201016 yr I think that "Sucha a rush" Will be a good choice. But why do you say "Violet Hill" ? It's clearly about love, so I think that this one Will not work .
February 4, 201016 yr Try to get a copy of this book... A Consumer’s Guide to the Apocalypse By Eduardo Velásquez There's a whole chapter discussing the lyrics of Coldplay for their first three albums. Should give you some great ideas, even if you don't agree with his interpretation. Taster: http://page69test.blogspot.com/2007/09/consumers-guide-to-apocalypse.html
