I'd like to thank you for putting so much effort into listening and reviewing my first ever mixtape :smug:(sorry about the cover art that was still there). It's not too long at all! I loved reading it whilst listening to my mixtape and you were right about most things. I think we have much in common about music (we also have the same day of birth btw! September 7 rules ! )

You were a though customer as I barely had something to base myself on (I stalked you a bit but I could only find your previous mixtape). But I'm really glad that you didn't totally dislike it and I really hope that's you'll listen to some to the songs from time to time, or that I made you discover at least 1 new artist/song. I'm sorry that I couldn't really give you varied music, I tried as much as I could but that mixtape just represents my musical taste and I couldn't give you what I don't have or love right?

If you ever need new material of artists you can always pm me, I'll be happy to share.

Thanks again :D

OMG! Another Cherry Ghost fan! :D I put that particular Cherry Ghost song in the mixtape I made too! I've just got their new album, it's very good :D

Time to review mine! this is just from the first listen.

Sadly, I can see a lot of the track info. I tried my best not to look!

1. Jonny Greenwood, right? I've never actually heard this album. I must have heard this song before though. It's lovely. Reminded me of Pyramid Song, but a little weirder.

2. Acousticy and quite nice. I don't really like this guy's voice though. Some awesome strings in it too.

3. I really like this one! it's very mellow and pretty. The percussion is quite cool. It gets crazy at the end. I like!

4. This is even more mellow than the other one. I quite like it too. so quiet.

5. Beach House? I never really got into them. But I recognise the sound. This is alright. Very mellow sounding :P

6. Either Atlas Sound or Deerhunter. Probably Atlas Sound. I've never heard this before. It's really cool!

7. I really like this. It gets better as it goes along. This is exactly the kind of song I really love. WHO IS THIS???

8. Very nice. It's very ambient and pretty, but it has a sound you don't tend to hear much in this type of music.

9. Another more ambient kind of one. But with vocals. It's good

10. Can't say I liked this one as much as the others. The vocals kind of annoyed me.

11. I liked this one. An instrumental. It's very nice and easy to listen to, if that makes sense.

12. Alright. I don't really like the girl's voice but it's bearable. Is that someone beat boxing? cool.

13. Didn't really like this one, to be honest. I have no idea who it is. I quite liked the drumming bit at around 2:00.

14. Not bad, not bad. Cool drumming. I love drumming like that.

15. Not a big fan of this. I'm quite picky with more electronic styled music

@Hotdensestate- :curtain: I'm your mixtape maker :nice: I knew a took a bit of a risk with my tracklist... I got nervous when I saw that you were my partner; I didn't think I'd have anything you hadn't heard yet. I figured the safest thing to do might be to choose songs that I loved when I was in h.s. and college, many, many years ago. :shy: I'm glad at least you didn't seem to know many of the songs, and I hope you found a few you did like!

You're welcome! I'm sorry you didn't find more to love, but I hope you discovered a few new gems. :nice:

btw, to hedge my bets, I actually made you two mixtapes... I'll link to the other one for you after I upload it tomorrow. I'd like to hear what you think of that one, if you've got the time! :nice:

EDIT: oops, forgot to include a condensed tracklist:

1. Cannonball- The Breeders

2. Outtasite (Outtamind)- Wilco

3. The Waitress- Tori Amos

4. Black- Pearl Jam

5. Grace- Jeff Buckley

6. Star 69- R.E.M.

7. Over the Hills and Far Away- Led Zeppelin

8. Waltz #2 (XO)- Elliott Smith

9. Halo- Depeche Mode

10. Sour Times- Portishead

11. Talk Show Host- Radiohead

12. Elsewhere- Sarah MacLachlan

13. Untitled- The Cure

14. The Fly- U2

15. Suedehead- Morrissey

16. The Love I'm Searching For- The Rentals

:)

Cool! Thanks. Going to look into a few of these artists a bit more. I appreciate you making it for me, even though a lot of it didn't really hit home. :nice: I'd be happy to review the second one also.

That ones mine. I'm glad you liked it cause I forgot about this whole thing and put it ogether in about 15 minutes. But you know I tried to make it so it had a lot of kind of variety which would explain the lack of flow. But I'm glad you like at least some of it.

I'm always afraid when I do stuff like this I'm gonna make it almost too slow and acoustic-y, so I don't know I tried to avoid that a bit?

Anyways here's the tracklisting..

1. Submission - Delphic

2. Despair in the Departure Lounge - Arctic Monkeys

3. Wires - Athlete (We don't get this on the radio here, sorry)

4. Furr - Blitzen Trapper

5. Hospital Beds - Cold War Kids (Try 'We Used To Vacation')

6. Without You I'm Nothing - Placebo with David Bowie

7. The Space and The Woods - Late of the Pier

8. Monster Boots - Razorlight (I agree, he's kind of a douche)

9. You're A Wolf - Sea Wolf

10. Love Lost - Temper Trap

11. The Grace - Neverending White Lights

12. Heart Skipped a Beat - The XX (I was gonna do Teardrops which is maybe my favorite song at the moment, so check that out if you havn't heard it already)

13. Hold On - Michael Buble (Everyone loves cheese).

thank you, i'm gonna be looking in to quite a few of these bands. also bare in mind i'm the hardest person in the world ever to please when it comes to music ;)

and the pace was absolutely fine. i only mentioned it was slow for others who might download it (and i recommend they do) so that they know a little what to expect. the one i made is slower :)

Just to let my mixtape maker know that I'm doing my best to post a review soon ! :) Sorry for the delay :shy:.

To all the people who put New Order "Ceremony" in their mixtapes :  This has to be one of the more awesome songs of ALL time !!! :wacky: I could listen to it a billion times without getting bored of it. Like seriously. <3

Ceremony - New Order is my favourite Joy Division song :awesome:

But yeah, it's definitely one of the greatest songs ever.

Time to review mine! this is just from the first listen.

aww man i tried to get rid of all the track info. next time i'll do it without using itunes because that seemed to mess it up

glad there were some tracks you enjoyed. i wanted to make it of music you hadn't heard so i tried to avoid some of the songs i'd put on other peoples playlists.

tracklist:

1. Jonny Greenwood - Moon Trills (instrumental with strings)

2. Nick Drake - River Man (acoustic with strings. this song was later ripped off by beck on the sea change album with Round The Bend.)

3. Department of Eagles - Sailing By Night (A lot of people don't know if they like his voice or not but I do. Its one of the guys from Grizzly Bear's solo stuff. Listen to the tite track of In Ear Park if you wanna hear more)

4. Slowblow - I Know You Can Smile (icelandic band)

5. Beach House - Some Things Last A Long Time (really wanted to get some daniel johnston onto the playlist but it didn't suit the general mood so i picked a cover of one of his songs instead)

6. Atlas Sound - Quarantined (from the first album. try River Card if you like that, or just the album in full)

7. Beck - Broken Drum (Boards Of Canada Remix) (glad you liked it. i hadn't listened to it in a while but it's got a cool sound)

8. David Bowie - Moss Garden (bowie and eno collaborating on the heroes album)

9. Brian Eno - By This River (was in an eno mood so he gets two songs in a row)

10. Martin Grech - Open Heart Zoo (famous for the amount of car adverts it was on. he wrote it when he was about 17 but his voice is hard to get into)

11. Pluxus - Transient (another car advert song. swedish band who make cool instrumentals)

12. CocoRosie - K-hole (yeah man, you gotta have some beatboxing in a playlist. the setup of this band is two sisters, one sounds a little like a cat and plays a variety of childrens toys as instruments, one that sings more operatically and plays guitar/harp, a pianist, a bassist and a beatboxer. you can't argue with that :P). one of their more mainstream songs)

13. The Beta Band - To You Alone

14. The Flaming Lips - Are You A Hypnotist

15. Massive Attack - Psyche (Flash Remix)

Ceremony - New Order is my favourite Joy Division song :awesome:

It's great, though not Joy Division's greatest. But it's probably New Order's best song.

Awesome! I've always wanted to get Heroes. I like my bowie.

I'll check out some more of these. You did a good job on finding things I didn't know!

To Twisted mind:

Thanks for the BRILLIANT review! I am absolutely ecstatic that you liked it so much, as this was my first go!!

I listened to the mixtape you made for the last exchange, but was a bit worried because the songs were very different to what I had planned to put in the mixtape! But I'm glad it turned out well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I couldn't ask for a better review. And I'm glad I made you smile, and even gladder that I was able to introduce you to a few songs/artists you didn't know!

I put a bit of an emphasis on Aussie bands in this mixtape (tracks 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 - actually, more so than I really realised :P)

That was mostly because I really wanted to give you music you hadn't heard before, and I figured that was the safest way to do so!

Oh, and the link:

Best mixtape ever. Not biased though. Especially Track #8 I was so tempted to put that in mine.

Haha I see quite a few people putting Delphic at track #1

Seriously, whoever made my mixtape.... can I get a tracklisting? I reviewed at page 44.....

It is an interesting mix ;)

If you want, I can send you the file. PM me your e-mailadress.

So, I've lost an mp3 in the conversion so I have to try to find that :inquisitive: I'll have the review up today, tomorrow or possibly Thursday :D

I'm done with my review, but I could have said many other things about what I've heard... The tape I received was very eclectic and so, so interesting to listen to ! I am a very lucky girl. That was a great experience *_* Yep, let me tell you mixtape partner that you have awesome music tastes ! I personally think the tape you have made is a gem. Oh, and don't worry mixtape maker, you were right to send me a massive tape, I do appreciate it ! :wacky:

Firstly I'd like to apologize for my poor English :sweatdrop: I'm afraid it may be a bit messy and bad written from time to time (if not always :embarrassed: ).

Well if you are not afraid of the length then ... here we go :

Track 1 : Wooo what a start ! That alarm at the beginning and at the end and that “let’s go” feeling is just awesome and to put it as the 1st song of this mixtape was a brilliant idea, it’s very appropriate. It’s a very accessible song and nice to listen to, no matter what. The voice is a bit unclear, but relaxing. Good song to listen to while on a journey to me. I love the echo in this song.

Track 2 : Oh that song, I’ve already heard it like a thousand times but I can’t get enough of it, very, very good choice !!! How can you not dance to this song? It is just so catchy from beginning to end, and has that classy sound/western style that I don’t know…sounds so right. The subtlety of the guitars, the beat and rhythm, the voices, everything is well balanced, this song is very fresh and has a young/bouncy side to it. I’d say it’s the kind of song you could easily play at camp, guitar/voice around the fire and sing with your friends. That crescendo at the end is :wacky: too. LOVE IT !!!

Track 3 : This track sounds original/unusual to me but but there’s that surprisingly good association of instruments (violins adding a lyrical side to the song, xylophone, tambourine ? etc ) that makes it unique. At first I thought it was an instrumental. I found it very ”rich” at times without getting heavy, at other times very simple and sincere (due to the handover between the players and the singer all along the song). It sound unpretentious and it’s a wonder for your ears. You get that overwhelming emotion of adventure when all the instruments can be heard together and then when it stops, a lost/depressed voice is breaking through. Strangely enough It’s a continuity, the song doesn’t break up in several parts but has 2 sides to it. An unleashed side and a quiet one. Seems like there’s no beginning nor end to this song, it could go on forever, but the abrupt ending and leaves me with an empty sensation, as if it was left uncompleted/unfinished. I am not sure but is there any balkanic/oriental (Indian) influences here ? ...Dancing on the grass barefeet song, much ?

Track 4 : Oh, nice beat ! That’s such an upbeat song (1st thoughts). There’s a slight groovy feeling to it and the singers’ voice is awesome as it is, it’s very light and truly leading the song and there’s no need to cover it with instruments (and they didn’t, which is a good thing, I like the subtlety in this song). Love the “clap clap” sound it in. Nice party song I guess, yeah that’s a nice summer song to dance to :D

Track 5 : To my mind this one is sober, classy beginning, Carefree, no problems, very soft and there’s a good flow/vibe/atmosphere to it. Mhh Jazzy ! I love the piano parts. A perfect summer song to listen to on a terrace/to chill out and to forget about your problems. It has a pretty girly chorus , the trumpet is sick and that lovely and bold voice is kind of … reassuring :) . Loved the snaps in the end as well. Great song that has grown in me little by little.

Track 6 : Nice association acoustic guitar/electric guitar and drums play an important part in this. As a result that rhythm makes you shake your head without even thinking ! :D Gets more and more intense as time goes by, great guitar solo too. Oh what a nice voice ! , I found it charming as it breaks from time to time, it fits the music well here. Although it’s a high pitched voice it doesn’t get annoying at all here as I feared at the beginning, here it adds something somehow wild and natural ?! It goes wilder near the end and that acoustic guitar still playing in the background is very pleasant to hear .

Track 7 : Is this song from Florence+The machine ? Awww that deep and ethereal voice is so wonderful… very mystical and expressive and well, overall organic. Interesting beat… ethnical . Yep another very interesting tune ! Bit of a stifling atmosphere but the light voice makes the whole thing well balanced . Wow it sounds like many violins are playing in this song ? Moving song (my, the violins again !). You can tell by the lyrics and sound of it that we are being told about a story, with twists all along. Imagery comes easily to one mind (especially when wearing earphones), very easy to imagine because very expressive. That’s pure epicness in the end !

Track 8 : “This is a song for anyone with a broken heart”. Woa this song is so full of compassion and hope and … Wow I fell in love with it instantly, it “hits” you I don’t know… and it’s simply breathtaking, but you have to be in the mood. Fortunately I am every time I listen to this song (and I did that many times already). It shows the singers’ fragility (it’s heartbreaking as soon as he starts singing, really) but is filled up with determination. The echo all through the song gives an awesome strength to it and the piano/guitars sound magnificent. Add a trumpet and you’ll get something very powerful . It makes me think of living a brand new life, moving out concretely and look forward to live brand new experiences . Sadness and fear disappear little by little and this song is like the ultimate cheer up song.

Track 9 : Very different from the previous one. Very surprising and unusual once again. Here you have unleashed people trying hard to transmit harsh emotions (frustration, pain… The singer is cryng out with such strength, that’s very impressive). Unlike track 4, instruments (esp. the drums) and singer are complementary here. Once again I loved the piano part (haha the piano player is going crazy at times… :D ).

Track 10 : Here are my very first impressions on this track : Wash of sound, audacious, a bumpy ride but still very aerial and free. Several complementary, beautiful voices that are. Very deep, electronic . A song to get lost in easily. Very “clear”.

Track 11 : 80s ? Although I’ve never heard it before, nostalgy comes to my mind when I hear this, and it has a bittersweet feeling to it. Lovely “Oooooh” s by the way :wacky: . It’s all victorious and the synthetizer/guitar effects are make it well … almost magical haha :) In a retro way.

Track 12 : What a surprise ! That’s Placebo right ? Again it’s very different from the previous song. Mhh that’s a rather depressive song that hurts you almost physically and make you feel down. But I like how solemn and heartfelt it sound and you can imagine something important is going on, a kind of inner fight. I also like how the woman’s voice sounds very discreet. Both of the singers’ voice go well together. Loved the line “there’s a thunder in our heart”.

Track 13 : Rock’n’roll ! This song makes me go hyper. Awesome guitars here and low (sexy) voice ! :D It’s not very well “organized” but that’s what makes it sound right actually. The refrain with the electric guitars and the drums is wow … excellent.

Track 14 : This one made me smile, haha it’s a funny one. Waa it sounds… psychedelic, full of surprises to me ! Funky, but not too much. :D Anyway OH the bassline is insane !!! That’s all I can say, it makes you want to get up and dance like crazy. I call it communicative joy xD

Track 15 : This is the only song I didn’t really find attractive . I’m sorry, I mean it is ok to listen to but a bit basic. It is really short too, I wish it was longer ^^. Does it have country influences? I can hear they worked hard and managed very well with guitars. But I didn’t really like the singers’ voice … still it’s not bad ! I don’t hate it.

Track 16 : Oooh The Corrs ! Reminds me of Ireland and my beloved Brittany too haha, with these celtic influences…I can see images of wild nature, windy fields of grass and cliffs when I listen to this song :wacky: . This is the reason why I feel so at home while listening to this. Plus it’s energetic, infectious, typical, it feels so good. :awesome:

Track 17 : Ok I love you for choosing Wake Up from Arcade Fire (acoustic) and including it to your tape, I truly do. This song usually makes me cry but this version is even more touching, it’s nearly unbearable. That’s definitely my favourite song from your tracklist ! There’s so much despair in it and the lyrics are just… eye-opening, I don’t know what else to say, nothing compares to this song.

Track 18 : Wow wow wow, as weird as it may sound I flew far away with this song. It is subtle and dreamy, so genuine, in a good way and it makes me want to go and discover things around me. I’m travelling without moving in a way, and that’s mind-blowing. The fantasy in this puts me in an excellent mood. I’ve never heard something like this before. That’s why it’s hardly possible for me to describe it … It’s like … from another world. It makes you realize so many things at once, it’s so… full of life ! The orchestration is marvelous in this song (the flutes :awesome: ) . I don’t know if it is but could be used in a movie. Thank you so much for this !!! Seriously, I can’t stop listening to this song.

Track 19 : Well that’s without a doubt the perfect way to end this tape, so intimate and nostalgic, those square and fair memories the singer mentions . And he is here, singing alone with his acoustic guitar yet there’s nothing to add, it’s just perfect as it is. What a soft voice ! Singing that serenade, “oh mon amour, à toi toujours” etc … You made me cry so hard with this  . Well done haha ! It reminds me of Paris and old films… -sigh- You can just imagine the wooden horses of a carousel being here in front of you and children laughing . What’s more it’s romantic and …filled with love, it may sound cheesy but I kept smiling and humming all along the song. :D Nice, nice little tune. But it’s sad in a way, for it's about a lost memory…

Thank you mysterious mixtaper, I had a great time listening to your tape, thank you so much  I will keep it with me preciously and keep on listening to it for a long time^^

Thanks for those who took the time to read this as well . That was such review a long review for you to read, right ? :sweatdrop:

Alright so... my mixtaper hadn’t actually deleted the informations on most of the tracks so I could see what I was listening to but I tried not to until I finish reviewing.

Track 1 – Very atmospheric song, perfect way to start a mixtape. Obviously, this is Bjork. I'm not that much into her but I do not dislike her, that track is awesome, very relaxing and I wish it was lasting longer. ****

Track 2 – We're staying in this kind of psychedelic atmosphere but it's getting more dynamic. I like that a lot, perfect transition. I don't know this band at all though I'd say the voice reminds me that of Damon Albarn. That track is also driving me a little crazy with the repetition of ''oh now, then, never again'', but it's actually quite addicting. I wanna give this band a try. ***

Track 3 – Good job on the transition, this one is a bit less psychedelic but it's close to the other tracks. A bit more ''rhythmic'', quite interesting. The voice reminds me of Bjork, I'm not too into it but it's ok. The keyboard makes the song a little retro, that's quite interesting. I prefer the two other tracks though. **

Track 4 – Beat. That's turning a bit more indie rock which is not a bad thing. This song didn't catch my attention that much, felt it was a mix of different things we hear a lot nowadays. Plus this male voice hasn't anything special imo but it's a pleasant track, especially the end which is getting a bit more dynamic. **

Track 5 – Once again very good transition, and we're back in the psychedelic atmo, loving this. The beginning of the track is awesome, the electric guitar solo is totally addictive. Could be from Radiohead though the background voice which we can hear sometimes makes me think that it's not. Rhythm accelerating toward the end, brilliant. Prob my fav track of the tape. That's totally what I like to listen to, can't wait to know who that’s from. ****

Track 6 – Starts with a solo of guitar which sounds a bit oldie, which the voice confirms. Can't deny I'm a little surprised to hear that in the middle of the mixtape, but it's funny so it kinda brings a ''fresh'' (but also a bit melancholic as well) touch to the mixtape. **

Track 7 – ''Hoarse sounding'' female voice, like it a lot. Quite experimental, and indie. The kind of artist I would totally love (although that track might be a bit too slow for me). It actually turned out I totally know who sings that (but I realised that when I saw the informations of the track, I wouldn't have guessed on my own). I only have a few tracks of PJ. The end where she's whispering ''little fish big fish swimming in the water...'' is A BLAST. ***

Track 8 – Good transition, once again, I'm liking the work done on that mixtape, really sounds like the track weren't put in a random order. Light track, is that British ? Good track to get closer to the end of the mixtape, relaxing, I feel like I'm in a movie (such as The Party ahah). I'm finding the track a bit repetitive but not in a bad way. It's pleasant to listen to. **

Track 9 – Crazy opening of an electro track with the sound of someone breathing which was slowed down. Fun, and interesting. Once again it's all about atmosphere, so it fits perfectly the mixtape. It's fun I'm listening to this mixtape after waking up (right, at 5pm cause I was travelling and didn't sleep these last 3 days) because I feel it's the perfect situation to listen to it. It's waking me up in a lovely way. Anyway that track is crazy and I love that, especially the French sentence in the middle (who are you mixtaper? are you French?) ***

Track 10 – Ends on a very soft track, piano voice (female). It just happens I'm into impressive female voices, so I do like this track which is quite moving and a beautiful way to close the mixtape. I saw it was Bat for Lashes, which is very surprising for me, I would have thought it was older. I saw BfL live before Coldplay and they didn't catch my attention this much. I'm impressed, this track is the first one I like from them. It's a real good one. Thanks a lot for that. ***

So as a conclusion, first I'd like to thank my mixtaper who obviously worked seriously on this mixtape. There's really a whole atmosphere which flows through the tape and which makes it very pleasant to listen to (and as I said, which fits my mood perfectly).

I decided to take the links to my twitter and lastfm account off my signature at the beginning of the game cause I didn't want to hear a mixtape made according to my taste but something a bit more ''personal'', which would gimme a clue of my mixtaper's tastes and personality, and I feel like it worked perfectly. That's exactly what I wanted to hear, plus that's the kind of songs I totally like - though I don't have many from that genre so thanks a lot for that.

Looking forward to know more about the artists I discovered through your tape.

Here's what I know :

Track 1 – Hidden Place by Bjork

Track 2 – Too Young To Love by The Big Pink (dunno them)

Track 3 – Heartbeats by The Knife (I know them but never tried to listen to them)

Track 4 – ???

Track 5 – A Deafening Distance by ???

Track 6 - ???

Track 7 – Down By The Water by PJ Harvey

Track 8 - ???

Track 9 - ???

Track 10 – I’m On Fire by Bat For Lashes

Overall, I'd give it a 8/10. Awesome tape (too short though, but maybe it could be strange to dive in this atmosphere for a longer time?)!

I want a review!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111!!!!!!!

mine will be posted shortly

I have a message for my mixtape maker.

First of all, thanks for being so patient with me. I know that it may have been a bother to ask what I did, but it really is helping with the download. Thanks.

However, I didn't know that HotFile had a download limit, and because of that, it'll probably take a bit of time before I get it all together. I'm going to try my best to have your review for you on Thursday, but it may be Friday. You'll definitely get it some time this week. I'm sorry I'm so high-maintenance, but my computer hates me.

Also, I'm intrigued to find out who you are, because apparently, from the stuff I've downloaded already, you know me. :surprised: Anyway, I'll do my best to get your review to you as soon as possible. Thanks again for being such a good sport. :)
