Than AaRON guy is worth hunting for.

Actually, it's a duet. Two guys. "AaRON" stands for "Artificial Animals Riding On Neverland" ;)

OK, here's my review!

1- Loud, fuzzy guitar feedback. YUM! Great intro.

2- Some fast-paced post-punk guitars and female vocals (more than one?) I like the bassline. I can see this being quite catchy!

3- More dancy guitars that remind me of Bloc Party somehow. I really like the choppy guitar work towards the end.

4- Hmm, the vocals on this sound really familiar...I like it anyway :)

5- More of an electronic feel to this song, with a lot of keyboard/synth. Is this White Lies? I got their first album recently but I haven't listened to it yet! The vocals are again, familiar. I think my partner enjoys an 80s influence in his/her music.

6-Beginning sounds a lot like Sigur Ros, but I don't think it's them..but damn it sounds a lot like Jonsi. Unless it's his solo stuff, maybe..It's very sweet anyway :nice:

7- More 80s influence here, especially with the vocals. It's not bad this, can't say there's that much here to excite me, though :/

8- Is this Arcade Fire? Sounds a lot like Win hehe, but I don't recognise this at all haha :p I really like it anyway! Especially the outro :nice:

9- I like the sound of this..Great intro with the strings and the mandolin (I think?). Then some cool guitar kicks in too. Really liking this. I think this could be my favourite so far!

10- Starts off with some nice all female a capella singing closely followed by some piano. This is interesting. Has quite a haunting feel to it when the singing stops. Dunno why, but I feel this would do well in a film with forests and lost children and mythical beasts running around after them :wacky: I like it hehe.

11- This is good when the music gets more intense around 1:22. I like the military drumming around the 2 minute mark, this is getting better. Got quite epic towards, but without being too over the top.

12- A much mellower tune after the last one, with just (mostly) female vocals and guitar. She has a nice voice, it's a simple song and it works.

13- More energetic turn now. I like the guitars and the upbeat feel to it, but there's nothing that grabbing about it for me, I'm afraid.

14- Florence and the Machine; her voice is great. Nuff said!

15- Ah, it's Muse. I can't remember what it's called, though. Hysteria? Man, it's been years since I listened to these guys. They're not really my cup of tea anymore, I'm afraid. But an organ outro is always a good way to end a tape :awesome:

Overall, I enjoyed my tape, especially tracks 2, 5, 9 and 10. And that cool first track

So thanks to my mixtape maker, I think you put a lot of effort into putting this together which is always appreciated and I had fun listening to it :nice:

Here's my review!

Please forgive for my English mistakes...

So, I opened the file and saw 12 tracks. I thought “oh a short one!” and then I thanked my brain for not remembering who wrote in the thread about his/her short mixtape. I don’t like to be spoiled :whip: . Then I saw a .jpg file called “Artwork “… I couldn’t help but open it before I even listen to the mixtape. And then I saw this dog face picture in black and white and thought “soooo cuuuuute”! I’m not really into dogs but this one is beautiful! It seems to tell me "pleaaaase love this mixtape!" or “pleaaaase don’t be harsh with this mix”… Well sorry, I kinda lost myself :D

Anyway, I really like the idea of an artwork and I immediately had the feeling that my mixtape maker put lots of efforts into this tape.

So, here I go…

1) Wow… mandolin… Brings me back to old memories from when I was a kid... Very touching… Just let myself go… Instrumental track. Great opener for this mixtape, I’m SO impressed by this track. As a baby guitarist I can tell it touches me very, very deeply… I absolutely didn’t expect that at all! So impressed. It brings this thinking mood… You know, when you’re looking at the horizon and just thinking about life…

2) Organ starting this one, electric guitar, drums and a male voice, I do like this! This voice reminds me someone but I can’t tell who. The song takes off, it’s a pop/rock one, I like it! The transition between the 2 songs is really cleverly done, though it was a bit risky I think ^^

I like the drums and those two electric guitars backwards.

3) Male voice again, folk guitar, tambourine. Some harmonica backwards? Or maybe it’s just a synth playing some notes. Anyway, I like this one too for the moment! An electric guitar and keyboards come too, very original song . Kinda reminds me Oasis in the way of singing sometimes, with those 2 voices. Really original song! I can’t tell when this has been made… But well, I enjoy it!

4) Cello (?), electro beat, definitely a dark mood. A man’s talking with a big voice, a dramatic and scary track I’d say. He seems to read a poem in his way of speaking. Usually not really my kind of thing but there it grabs me because it fits well! This electro beat is really catchy. I should give a look at these lyrics.

5) Another clever transition! Seems like 80’s or 90’s song ! Haha, some sax, great bass line! But when voices come (male and female) it doesn’t seem to be that old anymore! Or maybe am I mistaken… Anyway, this song is original, one more time! Trumpets, synth, great bass line, electric guitar riff backwards, this is SO well done! « Sounds like a dream to meee », this lyric line describes very well the mood of this song! I’m so liking it, it really grows on me! I’m dying to know who it is and when this song has been made! This bass line is soooo great :D I like the outro with sax, it decreases very slowly that’s cool. Thumbs up for this one!

6) Oh, folky/country guitar at the beginning . OOOOOOOOOH The Tallest Man On Earth???!! I’m pretty sure about that, I could recognize this voice between a hundred ones! I don’t really know his stuff and maybe I’ve been a bit annoyed by his voice sometimes but I always appreciated his originality, this man is an artist! « I wanna be the King of Spain! » haha, I love this line! Lyrics are funny!

7) Oh yeah, Mick Jagger ? Sorry, I suck at recognizing old tracks… I like the psychedelic mood in this one haha! Really 70-ish… I may be wrong really, I’m confused, I’m so lame concerning old stuff! Anyway, I like it, the bass line and synth are great and so are the drums! I feel like I know these lyrics, but I can’t tell what the title is! Great little instrumental bridge.

8) Oh, a short one, keyboards at the beginning, seems to be an instrumental… And it is! Very quiet after this little psyche track! I do like this :wacky:

9) Drums + distortion guitar at the beginning… A male voice which sounds like The National singer in a way, a female voice comes too. I like the male voice but not the female one, can’t explain why. Something bothers me with this song, I like it and I don’t at the same time… The lyrics are a bit weird too… The man’s voice reminds me someone… And the lyrics too… Can’t put my finger on it! Now I’m listening for the second time and well, I like it better! I think that those 2 voices fit well together. Anyway, I’m still disturbed by this song but it fits well in this tape :) I’ll listen to it again I think!

10) The longest song of this mix is starting… Piano, violins, drums, distortion guitar, some echoed voices, folk guitars: this song is taking off! It’s a very strong one. A male voice, I like it, very original. I feel like he whispers a bit when he sings and it brings to this song something more. Wow this song is really deep! I’m just escaping when I close my eyes… The kind of song that gives you courage and strength when you’re in trouble… The repetition of the song tends to grab me til the end and is not bothering me, that feeling is impressive (especially when you know that I don’t usually like repetitive songs). Like how it calms down near the end, really relaxing. Always this violins and some whispers too. And this soothing voice… I really want to know who this is! Wow, great piano riff at the end, with some high notes. So touching.

11) Starting with folk guitars and drums, a male voice. The song is a bit repetitive though… But I like the chords used and the changes between them so that’s OK. Some electric guitar riff also, it fits well there. The kind of song I’d love to know how to play!

12) Oh an old one! Haha funny song, synth riffs on repeat, drum machine, electric guitar riff! SO funny! The voice is so 80-ish haha! The tempo is not fast but I feel like dancing

I had a huge grin during this song :D Love how the guy’s singing, especially at the end, when he hits the high notes! Great choice to close the mixtape, very original!

So, I really enjoyed this mixtape overall! Whoever you are, you obviously put lots of efforts into this mix, my first impression was right! The songs are very well chosen and the transitions are just perfect!

Track 1 just hit me (like a train on a track), I can’t explain with words how much… I really felt like you knew me. I liked all the songs and I can’t wait to have the tracklist, I really want to know who are all these artists!!

To sum up… Mixtape maker: THANK YOU VERY, VERY, VERY MUCH!! :nice:

haha

I love you. Can you be my mix-partner everytime?

:cheesy:

Well we can just share songs witch other, can't we? :D Or maybe make 'mood' mixtapes, aggressive ones, sad ones, you know :D

to whoever made my mixtape: I didn't forget it....I just need to review it, but I am kinda busy....I will do this on friday I think

New Goldheart Assembly single? HELL YES. -downloads-

 Get on it, girl

Hi Squareonefivesix :D I made the mixtape for you! I'm happy that you find it nice/good! I know what you mean with the renaming properly, I had it last time, and now this time also... Some people just don't know how to do it properly, really irritating...

01 - Erik Satie - Gymnopédie No. 1 (Gymnopédies)

Funny you say that it reminds you of the song Chris played after Politik during the Viva La Vida tour (Gnossienne No.1), because it's from the same composer! I really love all his work, and this is one of my favourites. It's actually really easy to play on piano!

02 - The National - Slow Show (Boxer), 2007

It actually is the National... So yeah it sounds like the National :p I'm happy you liked it :) I think this is my favourite song of them!

03 - Coldplay - Poppyfields (Prospekt's March, 2008)

You know it's Coldplay right? Or are you not a big Coldplay fan, but just on this forum? It's the little instrumental song at the end of Prospekt's March :) I love it!

04 - Moss - I Apologise (Dear Simon) Never Be Scared/Don't Be A Hero, 2009

This is a Dutch band! I thought I had to put some music on it from my own country, so this was it :) I really like this song, reminds me a bit of Strawberry Swing!

05 - Arcade Fire - Deep Blue (The Suburbs, 2009)

Yes Arcade Fire! This is from their latest album (I don't call it "the new album" anymore :p). This song is my favourite of the album, especially for the lyrics :) Kasparov - Deep Blue, 1996

06 - Belle and Sebastian - I Love My Car (Push Barman to Open Old Wounds, 2005)

A friend of mine sended this song to me, and I quite liked it so I put it on the mixtape :) The lyrics are strange I know, but I listen to the instruments in this song :p

07 - Coldplay - Square One (Instrumental Outro, X&Y, 2005)

I thought, Hey! You're name is Squareonefivesix,, so I thought you liked Square One :p So this is the little outro of this song but without Chris singing... It is not so exciting I know, but I thought let's put some little Coldplay pieces into the mixtape :)

08 - Porcupine Tree - Trains (In Absentia, 2002)

Haha I thought you would absoluly hate this song :o Many people do... But I'm happy you think it's "OK". I really enjoy their music!

09 - The Postal Service - Such Great Heights (Give Up, 2003)

I heard this song once on a commercial here on Dutch TV... And a few weeks later I came across it on YouTube! I thought you would like it, because it's a bit electronic like X&Y/Apparatjik... I really like the song! Especially the beeping sounds at the beginning sounds great at full volume :p And I really like the lyric "Everything looks perfect from far away"

10 - Jamie Cullum - High And Dry (Pointless Nostalgic, 2002)

Ah I'm happy you like this one! I wanted some Jazz it.. And also some Radiohead... So why not 2 in one song? :p I really like this cover too! Although nothing compares to the original song of course...

11 - Feist - I Feel It All (The Reminder, 2007)

There had to be one song with female voice in it I thought :p So this song crossed my mind... I don't know that many songs with female voices, but this band I like! There are pretty known from the song "1234" that was used in a iPod commercial!

12 - Radical Face - Welcome Home (Ghost, 2007)

Again a song I found out about through a commercial! From Nikon... I really like the sound of this song, the piano and guitar... Vocals could be better yeah.. But hey I can't sing either...

+ - Coldplay - Violet Hill (Instrumental Outro, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, 2008)

No this is not part of the previous song, but I kinda thought it would fit together in some way... But when I listen to it now again, It actually doesn't... This is the little piano outro from Violet Hill, but without the Vocals... Again you didn't recognised it?

I'm very happy you at least think it's nice or good :p I thought you wouldn't liked it at all... And yes I know the tracks are all a bit similar, but that was also my original idea... I tried to make just a nice happy, summery (is that a word?) mixtape :) Something I enjoy listening to on a sunny day lying in the grass looking at the sky :D

O M G massive facepalm. Can't believe I missed all those Coldplay bits :shame: I am a big fan, just not very observant obviously :embarrassed:  In my defence I haven't listened to them much these past 2 years, but still...shit...it's no excuse really. And yeah, my username came from the song square one originally, so yeah can't believe I missed that one... what a muppet :laugh3:

Gnossienne, that was the fella! yup, very similar pieces.

Ooooh Belle & Sebastian eh? My brother's a big fan of them, I've not heard a lot of their stuff before tho, so yeah, they're umm... different haha

Your mix was very summery indeed & very happy & optimistic sounding  You've made me think I should probably give The Suburbs another chance and give it a proper listen again. Maybes I'll stick it back on my mp3 player... ..oh and the National too, I have High Violet but pretty much only ever listen to Conversation 16 or whatever that track is called, I bloody love that song, so yeah p'rhaps I should check out some of their older stuff. Do you have any recommendations on where to start..??

Anyway, thanks for the cool tape and for the tracklist.

^ OMG Alex Turner I Am Arrows Goldheart Assembly Marmaduke Duke & Kassidy?! That is like my dream mixtape! :-o

:smug2: Glad you approve

NONONO, I didn't say that. I'm just very observant. I'm sorry.

Duly noted on Stornoway. :nice:

O RLY? You have friends in high places? I'm defintiely looking out for both of those albums. :D

Awww, thanks.

Oh. I need to mention this to you. I think it's important.

That Strokes song. "Machu Picchu." I love it like a druggie loves crack. I'm not even kidding. I've been playing it non-stop since I got home last night. I think I love The Strokes now. I owe you. Big time.

AWESOME, I'm so glad I could help to educate you in the awesomeness of The Strokes

Seriously, you need to give the album a listen...

I may be able to help you out with that one, if you like :sneaky:

And not quite, I just have mad skillz :awesome:

To my mixtape maker... I'm sorry, I've only just had time to listen to it through once. I'll have some time off tomorrow when I'll hopefully get a review in :nice:

I'm sorry mixtape maker! I've been extremely busy this week, but I'll try my best to have a review for you tomorrow night :) I've listened to it once through so far and it's really good.

O partner where art thou?

I remember nobody even really cheered for them at all, except when they said "coldplay". :wacky:

Haha I know, I was cheering but I don't have a loud cheering type voice so probably no one heard me. :P And the fact that I was in the nosebleeds didn't help...(wait, you were too!!! Weren't we like, one section away? :o)

Sorry I've been such a lameoid that I haven't written a review... I'm going to sit down this morning and write it all out.

Okay, first of all, sorry I couldn't post my review yesterday, I was too busy. :( Anyway, here it comes!

Track 1: Starts out slowly, sounds very Sigur Rós-y. Oh, I love this soft piano tune! Very harmonic combination, loved this one!

Track 2: Turns out to be a slowly track. This one was okay but nothing special really. Sounds like the music is reversed.

Track 3: I can hear "She's so wonderful" repeatedly. Nice one, sounds old and rocky. :wacky: The melody sounds somewhat similiar to Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones at times.

Track 4: Female vocals! Kinda dreamy at first, then slowly growing some tempo. Cute melody at the end!

Track 5: I'm tapping my feet to this one, catchy! Nice shorter and faster track, it's very danceable. Is this Gorillaz? At least I can hear "Plastic Beach" sung here. :P

Track 6: This one I know for sure! It's "It Is Not Meant To Be" by Tame Impala. It's my favourite off of their new album, by the way! Loving the chorus. :awesome:

Track 7: There's a humming voice at the beginning of this song. Quite interesting, many different things going on in this song at the same time. The singer is almost like moaning, very quietly. This is like a male version of Björk.

Track 8: I can read from the description that this one is by Patrick Watson but that doesn't really make a difference to the fact that I have no idea what song this is. :P Sounds so haunting.. :surprised: The ending is lovely though.

Track 9: Liking the beat on this one, a lot! Another lovely female vocalist - echoy and quite dreamy vocals. Not to mention the guitar! :dizzy: Loved this one, who is this?

Track 10: Nice guitar on this one too - I don't know what else to say, this doesn't really appeal to me.

Track 11: Strange. Starting out veery sloowly, then it's like odd beat after another. It keeps me entertrained though, I have no idea what will happen next in this song.

Track 12: Sounds like classical music before the vocalist starts singing. This one is different, and the lyrics sound very hopeful and uplifting. :nice:

Track 13: Slightly longer track. WAIT A SECOND, this one is "Helicopter" by Deerhunter! I really like this track and the remix isn't too bad either.

Track 14: Kinda lazy beat. I can't say exactly why but this one caught my interest - who is this?

Track 15: Ooh, cute song. A really nice closer to this mixtape. "I'm the dog that ate your birthday cake" - :laugh3: This leaves me with a really nice feeling!

So, overall this was a great mixtape – all of the songs seemed to fit together very well and you must have put a lot of thought into this. My favourites were 1, 3, 4, 9 and 15. There were only a couple of songs I didn't like that much, and the rest was very nice! Thanks a lot!

Okay, first of all, sorry I couldn't post my review yesterday, I was too busy. :( Anyway, here it comes!

Track 1: Starts out slowly, sounds very Sigur Rós-y. Oh, I love this soft piano tune! Very harmonic combination, loved this one!

This is Arms & Sleepers, a band that Mike got me interested in. Glad you liked it :)

Track 2: Turns out to be a slowly track. This one was okay but nothing special really. Sounds like the music is reversed.

This is the song I debated most with, choosing between the remix and the original. I went for the remix which may have backfired haha, but I wanted some Beck and some Boards Of Canada, and this is Beck remixed by Boards of Canada haha, so I got them both in one track. I do prefer this version so I don't know if you will like the original any more, although Mike much prefers it.

Track 3: I can hear "She's so wonderful" repeatedly. Nice one, sounds old and rocky. :wacky: The melody sounds somewhat similiar to Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones at times.

Interesting comparison to Paint It Black, I kinda see it now, never thought of it before! This is Beta Band with 'She's so wonderful'.

Track 4: Female vocals! Kinda dreamy at first, then slowly growing some tempo. Cute melody at the end!

This is The Chemical Brothers with 'Asleep From Day'. The guest vocalist is Hope Sandoval, who also sang Massive Attack's Paradise Circus on their latest album.

Track 5: I'm tapping my feet to this one, catchy! Nice shorter and faster track, it's very danceable. Is this Gorillaz? At least I can hear "Plastic Beach" sung here. :P

Yes! Gorillaz :) This is the the song 'Plastic Beach' from the album of the same name and it's also the first time Paul Simonon and Mick Jones (both of The Clash) have played together on record since the split of their former band.

Track 6: This one I know for sure! It's "It Is Not Meant To Be" by Tame Impala. It's my favourite off of their new album, by the way! Loving the chorus. :awesome:

That's the one!

Track 7: There's a humming voice at the beginning of this song. Quite interesting, many different things going on in this song at the same time. The singer is almost like moaning, very quietly. This is like a male version of Björk.

I went for this after looking at your LastFm and seeing that you had listened to quite a lot of Elbow. This is Massive Attack with the lead singer of Elbow providing the vocals. This was one I didn't know if you would like, but I'm glad you didn't hate it haha.

Track 8: I can read from the description that this one is by Patrick Watson but that doesn't really make a difference to the fact that I have no idea what song this is. :P Sounds so haunting.. :surprised: The ending is lovely though.

I knew there'd be one that still had the information on. Sorry! Yes, it's Patrick Watson, introduced to me by Alice on the board. I like that song a lot.

Track 9: Liking the beat on this one, a lot! Another lovely female vocalist - echoy and quite dreamy vocals. Not to mention the guitar! :dizzy: Loved this one, who is this?

This is Echo Lake with their song Sunday Evening. I only found this a week or two ago but it was from their EP last year, which has 3 or 4 great songs on, and a couple that don't do anything for me. I'm looking forward to an album release!

Track 10: Nice guitar on this one too - I don't know what else to say, this doesn't really appeal to me.

Amen Dunes with their song Diane. I seriously expected you to be saying this to far more of the songs :laugh3:

Track 11: Strange. Starting out veery sloowly, then it's like odd beat after another. It keeps me entertrained though, I have no idea what will happen next in this song.

This is Apparat and his song 'Wooden'. Only found this recently, I really like when the vocals kick in. I fell in love with that song while watching a video of it, so I don't know what it's like to listen first time without the visuals haha.

Track 12: Sounds like classical music before the vocalist starts singing. This one is different, and the lyrics sound very hopeful and uplifting. :nice:

Flaming Lips with 'A Spoonful Weighs A Ton'.

Track 13: Slightly longer track. WAIT A SECOND, this one is "Helicopter" by Deerhunter! I really like this track and the remix isn't too bad either.

This is a live version they did for iTunes in Soho. Search deerhunter live soho and you'll find the rest of the songs they did :)

Track 14: Kinda lazy beat. I can't say exactly why but this one caught my interest - who is this?

This is Beta Band again haha. I thought I'd put them in twice to see if you recognised them. They remind me a little of Elbow, except I don't like Elbow but I like these, since they have more layers and I find them interesting.

Track 15: Ooh, cute song. A really nice closer to this mixtape. "I'm the dog that ate your birthday cake" - :laugh3: This leaves me with a really nice feeling!

The sadly deceased Sparklehorse with It's A Wonderful Life. I really like that song and the lyric you quoted is one of my favourite bits!

So, overall this was a great mixtape – all of the songs seemed to fit together very well and you must have put a lot of thought into this. My favourites were 1, 3, 4, 9 and 15. There were only a couple of songs I didn't like that much, and the rest was very nice! Thanks a lot!

Don't worry, I haven't posted my review yet. Just got let go from work though so I have an afternoon free and will do it very soon.

I was hoping to have put in one song you would like and want to know more about, so if you are interested in a few then that is great.

I like this mix :wacky:

The Books & Stars of the Lid  I love "These Days"

Sorry to whoever made my tape that it took me so long to review! Anyway here it is:

Track 1- A really nice and relaxing opener to the mixtape. I’d say it sounds along par of Mumford & Sons—so maybe Fleet Foxes? It’s a little bit like the new-wave folk music which I’ve been meaning to check out and never really got around to— so this is definitely the shove in the right direction. I really like the vibe that the song is giving off; it makes me think of summer spent lazing in fields. Got to check out more of whomever this is.

Track 2- I really love this track, like proper love it. The electronic/synthed style of the song is really cool and the contrast it has with his voice and lyrics is just stunning. The two opposing dynamics work really well and gives the track this really surreal feel. It reminds me heavily of Apparatjik—maybe it is and I’ve missed a release!?

Track 3- The Strokes ‘Under Cover of Darkness’—so much yes! I’ve had the album since release day and can’t emphasise how much everyone should definitely, definitely listen to it. ‘Angles’ is fantastic, as if most of their back-catalogue. And they’re just getting back in to their live game—so you have to be in on it.

Track 4- The singer(s) have really nice enough voices. But I’ve never been a massive female singer fan unless there is a driving force behind the song… And the beat in this isn’t really pushing it along so this feels a little tame to me. If they do have a song that has more of that—I would most definitely consider re-listening and give them more of a chance.

Track 5- At first I thought I had the same issue as above with this track. But I warm to the track it once the drum-beat kicks in during the chorus. And I definitely appreciate the guitars on it too. It feels really heavy and dramatic—it totally gives me the vibe that it should belong in a movie soundtrack.

Track 6- I thought for a bit that it was going to be a proper jazz instrumental. Imagine my surprise when it turns out not at all to be like that… It’s very much ska with what I guess you can tab as latino influences in there. It reminds me of Madness which is totally equitable to my childhood which is probably why it makes me smile a whole lot.

Track 7- A class follow up to that is definitely Empire of the Sun ‘We are the people’. No idea how I, literally, stumbled across these guys (I have the feeling it has a link to Miami Horror) but they are definitely another one of those bands not enough people know about. Basically they are summer and sunshine—with really nice rhythms and they just sound completely fresh and different.

Track 8- Wow. It’s blues—now there’s a genre I’ve never ventured into before! And it’s surprised me that actually I am able to listen to it (heh, I am a genre snob). I really like the acoustic guitar in this; it feels sort of melancholic without being too over the top about it. The piano parts of it also feel right and suited at the time.

Track 9- Here we have an instrumental interlude. It reminds me quite a bit of when Nine Inch Nails went instrumental (minus the overwhelming grunginess). I can’t decide what instruments it has in it at all—but I think part of the charm in this is if you don’t analyse it too much. When I close my eyes my mind definitely sort of makes this a chase/hunt scene—because it has the pace and the ‘building up’ that creates that atmosphere. The only downside to the track is that I don’t have the following track—so in my minds’ eye I never know how it concludes because we just cut out!

Track 10- The piano and strings in this track are the things that stand out most to me because they really help to emphasise the tone that the song is going for. The singer’s voice is beautiful and subtle and the lyrics are just heart wrenchingly beautiful.

Track 11- My immediate thought of this track is that it reminds me a lot of Travis, which is a good thing. It’s a very multi-layered track that, on every listen, offers me something different to focus in on. There’s guitars, drums, piano, the lead singer and then there are some choral moments in it. It works together really well.

Track 12- I would say this is U2. Not a song that I know of theirs—but I definitely recognise Bono’s voice. I have so much appreciation for this band unlike anything else and I still aim to see them live one day. This song, unfortunately, takes a little long to get going so I don’t know whether I’d be able to listen to it on my iPod without fast-forwarding the super long intro.

Track 13- A nice finishing track, sort of feel like it lends itself well to coming full circle. I particularly like the instrumental interludes/solo/bridges—because that’s when the guitar work, piano and the woodwind really comes in to its’ own... The verses are a bit bland for me though.

Mixtape highlights: Track 1, 2, 10, 11

There are only two tracks I didn't particularly like; the rest I'm more than willing to go and look in to a bit more and listen to other songs. Thank you very much mixtape maker!

Hi! Wow, I didn't expect my tape would be this well appreciated! And I'm glad you liked the puppy picture :cheesy:

It's actually Oud, a Middle Eastern instrument similar to the Lute :D This is called Hawaga by Sam Shalabi, who's a Canadian avant garde musician of Egyptian parents. I find this really relaxing and, like you said, it makes me sit and think.

This is Head Rolls Off by a Scottish band called Frightened Rabbit. I just find this song very uplifting and the video for this is one of the cutest things ever :wacky:

3) Male voice again, folk guitar, tambourine. Some harmonica backwards? Or maybe it’s just a synth playing some notes. Anyway, I like this one too for the moment! An electric guitar and keyboards come too, very original song . Kinda reminds me Oasis in the way of singing sometimes, with those 2 voices. Really original song! I can’t tell when this has been made… But well, I enjoy it!

The New Pornographers-The Fake Headlines. Canadian band that make some of the catchiest tunes! Don't know em? You need em :wink2

This is Gil Scott-Heron, a legendary poet/hip hop musician. His voice and words are pretty deep and cryptic and benefit from repeated listens. This was his first album in about 16 years due to some problems with drug addiction.

Nope, not 80s or 90s, this came out this year! :D Destroyer is awesome :awesome:, I cannot recommend his music enough. He's managed to create a very unique sound for himself and each album is very different. He was also a member of the New Pornographers of track 3!

Yep, Tallest Man on Earth it is! I really like his voice and the fact that it is isn't perfect. There's a certain roughness to it that makes his songs seem very honest.

This is a band called Yo La Tengo, and nope it's also not old, but came out in 2009! They're an American band that plays loads of different styles, from psychedelic to pop songs to 15 minute guitar freakouts. They can do it all!

8) Oh, a short one, keyboards at the beginning, seems to be an instrumental… And it is! Very quiet after this little psyche track! I do like this :wacky:

Squarepusher-Tommib. This short track packs a real punch. I think it's absolutely beautiful and somehow life affirming. It was also included in the equally lovely film Lost in Translation <3

This is Rowland S. Howard, a very under appreciated Australian guitarist and singer. He was a member of the Birthday Party with Nick Cave, who you may know. His voice is a little intimidating at first, but it's quite captivating and grabbing I think. The female singer is called Jonnine Standish, who plays in an Aussie band called HTRK. Sadly, Rowland passed away from liver cancer a couple of months after this album was released =/

Another underrated band. This is British Sea Power, a great band from the UK! This is from their newest album, which came out earlier this year. They've expanded their sound a bit from their earlier work, adding things like the violins. I'm really happy you like it, they should be bigger than they are!

11) Starting with folk guitars and drums, a male voice. The song is a bit repetitive though… But I like the chords used and the changes between them so that’s OK. Some electric guitar riff also, it fits well there. The kind of song I’d love to know how to play!

This was actually a last minute addition to the tape as I'd only heard it a few days before submitting it. Another 2011 album too. I like the laid back feel it has to it, but there's some sort of held back tension to his voice as well that I like.

:D Talking Heads should be required listening for everyone! They're one of the most influential bands ever IMO. Yep, like you said, this song is just happy and makes me dance. This song, to me, is the sound of falling in love :cheesy: Really happy you liked it.

:nice:

I'm really happy you enjoyed it so much, I enjoyed making it a lot as well and I'm so glad you connected with it :nice:
