Sooo many things to love, not just the music!

Featured Replies

It's my opinion that Coldplay makes the best music today, and all time for that matter. And of course they owe a large part of this to their earlier influences. :P But I stand by that. Moreover, I think there's so many things to love about them that aren't strictly about the music itself (not sure if there's a thread for this or not).

1. I mean, first off they share all the profits equally. I love that idea because whether or not Chris is in fact writing most of the lyrics for the songs, ALL of them are writing the melody and structuring the song together. All of them have to consent to the individual songs and the tracklist of each album as a whole. All of them contribute to the themes, ideas, artwork, and other things like that so I think it's only fair they share the profits equally.

2. They never sell out their music. Minus the one iTunes commercial, which was just for promoting purposes and is actually a music corp., they never sell the rights to their songs to companies to use for commercials. They never forfeit the true meaning of the songs by selling them for millions to corporate giants as they shouldn't. I can't stand it when bands do that. Even if it is nice to have a good tune to sing along to once in awhile. :P

3. The band has consisted of the same four members since they began. Chris kicked Will out early in the making (while being under the influence :P) but other than that they haven't had significant problems. They're all still on good terms. I hate to see it when bands have to replace members (or breakup all together), regardless of the reason, and don't talk anymore or don't play in the same band. Sure, it has to be done sometimes, but it's so nice that they've all been together the whole time and are very mature to have worked out whatever problems they've encountered over the years. I really love them for that. :] I imagine it gets difficult sometimes dealing with the same people all the time for 12 years but they're all incredible so that must be why it works out!

4. The no hard drugs policy is a great idea. These things have torn apart great bands, whether you're talking about Oasis, RHCP or Aerosmith (and the list is much longer than this). They're great in that they make these smart decisions not to do those things and risk the band, their ties, and their health in the process. They're all very intelligent men and clearly good decision makers with fantastic priorities.

5. They contribute their money to charities, as well as the Democratic nominees in the presidential elections (this is a political slant so surely not all will agree). Make Trade Fair comes to mind, a very good point and advocating a necessary change so that the larger industrial countries don't beat up on the smaller ones as much. It shows their dedication to a good cause and they show you don't have to be Bono to make a difference worldwide as musicians.

6. All of the guys are generally soft spoken, awesome British mean each with a unique and awesome personality. They're all very humble, humorous, charismatic, genuine, witty, earnest, quirky (in a really good way) and just all around incredible. What can you honestly say bad about their personalities? Nothing period as far as I'm concerned. I mean, they're certainly not perfect (no one is) but it often seems they are the darn closest thing to it!

7. You can tell they genuinely care about the fans. They gave away Violet Hill as a free download. They gave away LeftRightLeftRightLeft for free (to people attending one concert I believe?). And not even just that. Coldplay are always keeping in contact with the fans and letting us know what's going on. Whether it's every few days, every week, every few weeks, but no more than every month. Some bands go over a year, even up to two without talking at all really about new material and what's on the horizon. I love how they have R 42 always updating us now and then, the Coldplay twitter page, and the informal news pieces on the website regarding new developments in their music in general/new album/new singles/upcoming festivals/etc. They really do so much compared to a lot of other bands, even though I know it feels like forever for some of us even to go 5 or 6 days without any new info. ;)

So there. I counted there's at LEAST 7 other ways, besides the mind-blowing music itself, why Coldplay are such an amazing band. It's not just the songs and albums like with a lot of bands, it's literally everything about them that's so fantastic and incredible!!! :D

^^I know. They are an inspiration to me. I'm so honored to be a fan of such wonderful people.

:D Yesss!! Same here!

Epic post. :)

I was going to make something similar, so I'll throw in one more thing - live, the band has sounded better than ever. From the old hits to the new yet-to-be-hits, they've really kept things fresh in the setlists and in the way they perform songs. :D

Yes, they absolutely have plenty of reasons to love them that does not just include the music, they are great all around. :D

You're sooo right!!! They are wonderful people and wonderful musicians!

I was thinking about this when I couldn't sleep last night. I've been on a Coldplay kick lately, and basically, they enhance my life. They calm me down when I'm anxious, they pump me up when I'm happy, their good humor make me smile and I think of funny things they say. They mean a lot to me.

^^Same here. I've been a fan for a while. I got into Viva a lot. X & Y was the last album I bought. Ever since, I've been enamored and happier. They make life feel strong and comfortable (if that makes sense. :\ ) :)

So true.

Also about not selling songs , they were offered good money for songs in commercials , but they rejected .

Apart from the music

They are great people :D

Great, great post! I agree with all of this and I hope Debs Wild shows it to them!

I love the artwork they put out for EVERY album. Especially X&Y. When Coldplay adopts a theme, they REALLY stick to it. It's that dedication (that encompasses everything, not just the music) that makes Coldplay awesome.

you're tottaly right. especially the drug issue is a big deal. no drugs, no drinks and no smoke. that makes them the best in life too. and the connection between each other is also really strong. as i know they also have a deal like that "if one of us leaves the band, band will be disbanded and no one will do any solo work too. music will be over for every member."

Great post! Well said, I totally agree with the reasons, and I too find them as a huge inspiration, myself being in a band too :)

Couldn't agree more, very well said :)

great post agree with it all :)

Thanks everyone!! :] Just spreading the Coldplay love around and reminiscing on the huge number of reasons why we love the band!

Great, great post! I agree with all of this and I hope Debs Wild shows it to them!

I'd love it if they saw this. I think constructive criticism can go a long way in helping the band become the absolute best they can be (as Chris has said before) but appreciation is really nice once in awhile too! :)

That's another great reason! They always seem to have a cohesive theme on each of the albums which I really love and not all bands do by any means. :) Most of the songs on each of the albums are wonderful but the flow and fit really well with each other. Musically, lyrically, and theme-wise too!

Epic post. :)

And another! There's not many bands I like listening to live. But Coldplay is definitely one of them! They're really talented and it definitely show here. The music sounds absolutely fantastic, even up to par with studio quality sometimes I think or better (which is hard to do I imagine)! I can't get enough of Chris's sporadic/unique/quirky dance moves and stage antics as well! He's so fun to watch. :) And it's not just about him he brings Jonny and Guy up to the forefront and praises them (Will too) all the time. If Glastonbury is any indication, it seems like he says "thank you everyone" to the crowd after every one or two numbers which is awfully polite as well. I mean THEY'RE entertaining US and WE'RE the one's be thanked? Really? That's pretty bizarre (in a really good way of course!). :D I love them.

GREAT post. You're all the way around right. Clearly C O L D P L A Y is a way of life.

Love the post :) plus I also love how they always include the crowd in songs like Viva La Vida, the Scientist, In My Place, the list goes on and on!!!! And they really do care about their fans. Chris is always asking during concerts,"how is everyone?", or "how are you guys doing?". He asks at least 50 times. These guys are so pure and down to earth and I am proud be one of their fans. :D

Thats very well said. I couldn't agree more.

At concerts they have Miller going around to people with the worst seats, and upgrading them free to usually front row seats. I always thought that was a great thing.

Some of their songs, I may not love, but I keep following them as a band because they really are four normal nice guys, who make good music (more often than not). And they're so kind to their fans no matter what. In fact, I don't think I've heard a bad experience. That to me, says a lot.

Wow. What a great post. I hope the guys do see this at some point!

I agree with what everyone has said. Whenever I'm upset, angry, or nervous, Coldplay is seriously the only thing that can calm me down. They've been my role models for a very long time now. :)

And I think that Coldplay is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) live acts in the world. They always seem to be looking out for their fans, making sure they're having fun and really enjoying the concert. I don't know of any other bands that interact with their fans on that scale during every single concert.

The guys truly love their job, and they make sure that their fans love it just as much as they do. :)

What a great post! You listed all the reasons that I love this band so much. I'm older than the "typical" Coldplay fan (if there even is such a thing) and I've seen a lot of bands come and go in my musical life. Only a few have remained and resonated with me, and Coldplay is one of them. First it was their music that caught my attention, but then as I learned more about them and came to love and respect them as human beings, my caring for them as a band was solidified.

One of the things you didn't mention is their obvious respect for other musicians. They know that they're in a highly competitive business and they seem to have awe for so many other people who have made their mark on the industry. How often have we heard Chris, especially, give a shout out to U2, Radiohead, Green Day, and even Gary Barlow?

Thanks for reminding us that there is just so much to enjoy about these guys. As others have said, I'm honored to be a Coldplay fan.
