August 6, 201114 yr Man, lets be rational. It's a wonderful song and everything and bla bla bla, but it's said the album didn't start until May of this year. All the job before that is discarded and all that we have of these songs on the new ones is inspiration. Last time Weeding Bells was played Coldplay - Sing Wedding Bells - live at Apple keynote 2010 - YouTube Actually . . . wasn't it played at the Boogaloo (or something) sometime this year? Chris played it on acoustic guitar, I remember . . .
August 6, 201114 yr Author Even March. Remember the article in December or January? Chris mentioned the songs.

August 6, 201114 yr This song isn't even registered. But anyway, I won't break your dreams. Hope. It doesn't cost anything.
August 7, 201114 yr I'm pretty sure that Wedding Bells has been discarded--it's lyrics were incorporated into Christmas Lights. I don't understand why people say this when it's simply not true. They re-used one lyric: "all kinds of poison in my blood". How is this "incorporating the lyrics"? It's one line, and it's not like re-using lyrics doesn't happen with Coldplay (e.g. variations of "keeping my feet on the ground"). I just don't see this as a legitimate excuse as to why the song doesn't have a chance of being released since this claim just doesn't make sense.
August 7, 201114 yr Author Not to start an arguement or anything, actually it makes me more of a smartass, but the line "I always loved you and I always will" was used too, but I kinda agree too, just two lines, at least at the top of my head i think its two lines, and the songs tell two different stories. Havent Coldplay used two lines in a couple songs before? I know about now my feet wont touch the ground, but wasnt there something else?
August 7, 201114 yr No,no we don't :) (and we don't want ETIAW either , for the record ... that's ambigious now isn't it :P )

Yeah I'm pretty sure there's other re-used lines. I can't think of them off the top of my head though.
August 7, 201114 yr Im still holding out for it to appear and be released in some form.It seemed like the song kept popping up.South Bank,Keynote, and at Boogaloo.I would think that Chris obviously likes the song for him to keep playing it.I think it would be a shame and a waste for the song not to have been finished and released in some way.I love the melodies and the lyrics. The picture Chris is painting is very visual and a sensual story and point of view. From the first time I heard it on South Bank I was just drawn to the song.Maybe they will throw us for a loop and surprise us.One can hope.
August 7, 201114 yr Well I want Radiohead to release Open The Floodgates, too bad they changed a few things and called it "Codex"

Those are my thoughts exactly. If you dont like a song why would you play it 3 times? Each time progressively different, so he obviously kept working on it. Why would he throw his work away to just be left unfinished

Finally someone who agrees, a lot of people acted like it was the same song, and if you ask me its better when songs by a certain band tie into each other like that. I like it at least :\

This could very well be due to the overall lyrical content of the album but I still think it counts.
August 7, 201114 yr You're just listening to the lyrics. There are several themes on the piano that were incorporated into Christmas Lights. Consider this song "canabalized".
August 7, 201114 yr Wedding Bells has an almost identical chord progression to Christmas Lights that's based around the Em7 chord. Em7 was the chord that Chris said he'd 'never heard before' on the Southbank Show. It also has a similar melody to the first half of Christmas Lights and it has some of the lyrics as pointed out already. My guess is that they scrapped Wedding Bells but took some of the ideas in it and put them in Christmas Lights. Chris and the Oracle have both said it won't be on the album. Chris actually said it would never be released so its likely that we'll never hear of this song again even in b-side form.

August 7, 201114 yr [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNDpD87Rgx8]Chris Martin - Wedding Bells @ The Boogaloo 13/4/11 - YouTube[/ame] At 0:21 he says 'it's not going on our record or anything like that' and then at 1:05 he says 'it's only been played once, and it'll probably be only played twice.'

That said, as for "Christmas Lights" purposefully taking elements from "Wedding Bells"; eh... I'll believe it when it's confirmed. Still not buying it. It's not like this is the first time Coldplay has used similar chord progressions in two songs (it's probably not the second time, or third time, or fourth time either). It doesn't mean their writing processes had anything to do with one another. This is a claim that virtually no one but the band could confirm, which I doubt they ever will.
August 8, 201114 yr Author Chris Martin - Wedding Bells @ The Boogaloo 13/4/11 - YouTube[/url] At 0:21 he says 'it's not going on our record or anything like that' and then at 1:05 he says 'it's only been played once, and it'll probably be only played twice.' Chris is even wrong, hes played it 3 times. He was also in a seemingly joking mood.
