Disappointment

I think i will be disappointed if they do not include a song on the album based on pure emotion, such as fix you or politik

I don't want this to be their last album because I feel that once they can separate themselves from EMI, they can make something truly outstanding. I'll be surprised if MX measures up to even X&Y, sure it has a few gems, but I really don't think this album is sounding too special.

Whiny repetitive rant coming up. If you are super excited about MX, don't read.

I'm already disappointed. All the songs I've heard so far just don't do it for me, they don't compare to anything pre-X&Y. Except Major Minus live, but even then the studio version has been a disappointment.

A lot of titles are also the worst and corniest they have ever been (Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (think about it, and then the song itself lives up to its bad title), Hurts Like Heaven, even Paradise...). Let's hope they don't come up with Don't Let It Break Your Heart... That would break my heart.

None of the songs (let's not consider MM live here) live up to anything they did on AROBTTH, for example. I'm listening to Live 2003 now, and it's so brilliant I have the unbearable thought that they will never nail it like that again. I can enjoy listening to HLH, for example, but compare it to any old song and it's just an empty song/tune (Spray can soul... damnit.). I don't get the fuss about Charlie Brown. I seem to be the only one who dislikes it. People, it's just a repeated tune that's brilliant at first but I'm already tired of hearing it. The lyrics and the singing are really dull. Can't believe so many people are being so excited about this and talking about "reaching their full potential here". I'm afraid their full potential was A Rush, with top songs like Politik and Amsterdam, and that level can't be reached anymore. Don't forget the sobrety of the old songs. No needless bells and jingles and all that. The contrast between that and the new ones seems incredibly huge.

Then there's the kitschy artwork, the wannabe punk look (they're not punk, let's face it), the circus show they pull off at every festival with all the fireworks, props, confetti, ... It's as if they want to hide something's lacking in the songs. They used to be all songs, no fuss, just playing great songs as a professional alternative band compared to radiohead and R.E.M. Now they're just a pop band making hits, wanting to be up there in the charts next to Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga.

Wow, can't believe I'm being so negative on this band I love so much. Let's say Mylo Xyloto can only surprise me in a positive way, although I doubt it, and I'm afraid I will be disappointed when it's not good anyway. I appreciate the great effort the boys put into this project no matter what. Fingers crossed.

I totally understand where you are coming from. It is very different from say Parachutes. I've been listening to Parachutes and realizing how beautiful they sounded before they became famous. But I guess they have to change a little with the times, in order to top charts. It is kind of sad, that they have to change, but all artists end up doing that. I think with this era and the Viva era they really tried making things different, testing it. People went crazy for VLV, so they are probably continuing the more up-beat music theme, thinking thats what people want.

I'll be surprised if MX measures up to even X&Y

Now you're just being stupid, of course it'll be better than X&Y

It really makes me wonder why some of you even call yourself Coldplay fans.

You are claiming they have changed their sound to "top the charts"? Really? And you say you like and understand the band?

Coldplay do their own thing. Yes, they have changed. Name me one legendary band that never changed their sound. Look at the Beatles for christ sake. They went from this:

to this

And yes, there were thousands of "Beatles fans" crying about the change back then too.

I personally love the new stuff. I think it is inspired, unique, groovy and hard hitting. I love the old stuff too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should all know that Coldplay aren't the type of band that would give a toss about reaching number 1 in the charts. They have amazing integrity, they are extremely private and personal and they make music they want to make. The audacity some of you must have to suggest they are selling out is mind boggling.

Double post.

Yeah, that was a really whiney rant, of pure opinion and nothing more, obviously. Clocks and Got Put A Smile Upon Your Face are good, but other than that I don't care for AROBTTH. Those jingly bells and kiddish graffiti may seem utterly stupid to you, but I have never liked Coldplay more than I do now. Not trying to be rude, but I simply couldn't disagree more. Coldplay seems to be truly growing into their own if you ask me, with live performances that just keep getting better and better.

The only thing that could disappoint me, is if all the new songs we've heard live, except UATW, are not on the album. I also would have to exclude the ETIAW EP. I don't want any of those three on there, we already have them. :D

Agreed partially. I love AROBTTH, but yes I do think Coldplay are better than ever, and i think ETIAW is a great track on the album. Don't get me wrong i want lots of new songs, but what Coldplay chooses will be their masterpiece, and if that includes ETIAW and MM (definitely not MTM) then so be it. :D

Yeah it won't kill me or anything, I like ETIAW, but I definitely don't think it's their best work. MM is simply brilliant in it's own simplicity.

Autotune and sampling is already a huge turn-off as it is, but I can think of a few things Coldplay could do to further disappoint me on tracks' studio versions - "Us Against the World" with chipmunk voices, "Charlie Brown" having rubber ducky effects, Chris Martin inhaling helium before singing "Princess of China", singing "Paradise" into a repeating parrot and just recording the parrot and putting it on the album, etc. (I should shut up in case the band actually reads this and gets ideas.)

I hope too that the songs will be not as the studio version voice of Major Minus

Mylo could not possibly disappoint me. I'm down with the music, the theme , the cover, everything. I started out quite sceptic, but the new material quickly won me over. I think they are as good as they have ever been and I can only agree with their perception of themselves as a band at this point. I know they gave everything to this album, so I'm so excited to hear the results.

P.s. As someone noticed, they have kept changing since album nr 1. A rush was SO different from Parachutes and they continued like that with each album. It's incredibly hard to maintain your signature as a band while evolving on each album, yet they still manage.

I hope the synth in Princess Of China sounds as good as it does live, nothing in the vein of that cheesy synthpop that is ETIAW.

This post is depressing, because I understand completely.

It's best to let that feeling go, if you can, and be happy with whatever good songs we get. (Because I'm sure MX will have some great songs.) That works for me, I'm able to be pretty excited for the album now, without expecting anything epic.

Oh well, it might be epic. :wink3:

But er... if Don't Let It Break Your Heart really is a title, that would make me nauseous.

i would be disappointed if they only had 10 songs on the album, most of which we've already heard.

I would be disappointed as well if they included heavy vocal effects on the songs.

you speak out of my mind!

We already have that. It's called Hurts Like Heaven.

The only thing that would let me down is if they didn't play a show in Croatia :)

Agreed. :D +1!

I don't think I will be disappointed, I like the new songs and I'm positive that there are better songs that we haven't heard yet. Charlie Brown's studio version sounds brilliant already, the artwork is great and I'm already super-content we're gonna get that pop-up album version with all this material :awesome: Besides, I trust them enough, Chris looks like he's given his 150% to this album..

This thread should die :lock: They will never dissapoint.

Coldplay FTW

I was already disappointed, so...nothing is gonna change.

:freak:

Is there anything you actually like about Coldplay?
