AMSTERDAM – De Britse band Coldplay laat weten dankbaar te zijn voor de twee top 10-noteringen in de jaarlijkse Top 2000 van Radio 2.

 

De hits Viva La Vida (nummer 9) en Clocks (nummer 8) komen in het laatste uur van de Top 2000 voorbij, op oudejaarsavond.

 

Coldplay was niet op de hoogte van de populariteit van hun liedjes in Nederland. "Het werpt een interessante blik op de muzieksmaak van Nederland", zegt drummer Will Champion tegen NU.nl.

 

Het Coldplay-bandlid is verrast dat liedjes van zijn band tussen popklassiekers van Queen, Eagles en Deep Purple prijken. "Tegen Bohemian Rhapsody van Queen als nummer 1 is niks in te brengen", zegt hij. "We zijn erg dankbaar en we voelen ons een klein beetje opgelaten."

Maarliefst vijftien liedjes van Coldplay staan in de 2011-editie van de Top 2000. Vijf daarvan zijn nieuwe binnenkomers in de lijst, waarvan Paradise op nummer 74 de hoogste is. Ook The Scientist (nummer 39) en Fix You (nummer 69) staan bij de bovenste honderd.

 

Andere Coldplay-nummers die dit jaar nieuw zijn in de "lijst der lijsten" zijn Yellow (nummer 190), Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (nummer 258), Trouble (nummer 381) en Violet Hill (nummer 767). Het album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is met vijf nummers vertegenwoordigd in de Top 2000.

ETIAW is REALLY underrated

It's great for Coldplay.

But this radio event has been around since 1999 and with the years I think it has lost it's credibility. I mean "I Gotta Feeling" is at #188 (above, for example, "Strawberry Fiels Forever" at #271).

Though, the TV show that goes with it still has great "mini-documentary's".

My fault since I chose a name not knowing someone else had one so similar :P

 

So, if it's confusing, I'm the one to blame, really :nice:

I'm so proud of Coldplay! They are realy concuering their well deserved place in the list of the big ones. (although very new songs should not be in there.

But over all it shows that the taste of the Dutch people definetly improved over the last year. ;)
