Coldplay 15 times in Dutch Top 2000 songs of all time

Featured Replies

Every year around Christmas and New Year the Dutch radio station Radio 2 has a marathon broadcast, named 'Top 2000 songs of all time'. It's probably the biggest radio event in Holland (after 3FM's Serious Request). Today the final list became public and Coldplay has broke their record with 15 songs in the list. Highest placed is Clocks on #8, followed by Viva on #9. Paradise also made it in to the top 100, which is remarkable. It's also remarkable that so many Coldplay songs have made the list, until 2009 only Clocks and Speed Of Sound managed to get a spot and after that some adds thanks to VLVADAAHF.

Coldplay made the list with..

8. Clocks

9. Viva La Vida

39. The Scientist

69. Fix You

74. Paradise

190. Yellow

Updated the opening post with the ranking of the songs over the years. As you can see, 2009 and 2011 are very Coldplay friendly years! Quite bizarre that songs as Yellow and Trouble never made it until this year!

Thanks R23 :awesome:

Good score for our band. I'm happy that The Scientist finally got higher.

I'm voting and listening every year, love that list.

I've been trying to get Politik in there for years, btw. Still no succes :(

The last 2 years I voted myself crazy and I liked the thought that so many Coldplay songs made it because of my intensive voting, haha. This year I only voted once and voted on 2 Coldplay songs only. So it's good to know that other Dutchies also massively voted on them! :)

How is that Yellow's first appearance? :whaaat:

some of the (die-hard) radio2 fans say that songs younger than five years shouldn't ever be on this list..

even though I'm a coldplay fan and happy see so much coldplay, I agree.

You can't call paradise a classic song just yet..

The Hardest Part? Really? Glad to see some Coldplay on there generally, although I think some are too high.

Why is The Hardest Part on the list? :wtf:

The full list is retarded (Adele x4 in the top 40?), it's obviously heavily influenced by today's popular songs.

But I'm glad to see our boys there. :D With or without The Hardest Part which is a total WTF on this llist. :D

Had the same discussion. I also think Paradise doesn't belong in the top 100 (not even in the whole list, it's out for 2 months now?!). Same with Adele's Someone Like You on spot 6. Great song, absolutely, but out for what is it? A year or so? It's way to early to decide that this is the 6th best song of ALL time. It belongs in the top 10 on 2011. Not more, not less.

I forgot Lovers In Japan on #900. Added it. Tnx @LoversInJapan!

I totally agree with you guys, but it's still much more old songs than newer ones. The thing is, people vote for the same 'classic' songs every year, and then some that are currently on their mind, like the hits of the past year. So the five year rule would be a great thing.

I don't know if this is a new generation taking over, because it used to be only old songs. I remember when Coldplay had two songs in there and I was very proud.

Oh so confusing, figured you didn't mean me haha:laugh3:

My fault since I chose a name not knowing someone else had one so similar :P

So, if it's confusing, I'm the one to blame, really :nice:

Indeed highly influenced by the popular songs of today, it's obviously a hit radio station, since hit people don't have a long memory. That explains why ETIAW and Paradise are in it, and why they're so high. And you can see 2009 hits going down in the list already.

Still, well done Coldplay!

^No, it's actually not a hit radio station at all, that's why it's a little surprising. It's just this one list that's getting more and more popular. It used to be something only 40+ people listened to, it rarely had 00's songs.

Edit: If you want proof this is not a 'hit people' list: Rihanna's not in there. (Lady Gaga is, but that's a first time.)

I see. When a station attracts more people, those people are usually very hit-sensitive. The same is true for Belgium's Studio Brussel.

A similar list was on the radio here in Belgium, and Coldplay was N° 1! With VLV though. Wouldn't be my pick, but I'm glad it's them and not The Black Eyed Peas :p
