Haha ok I find this so hypocritical. I mean you're a HUGE radiohead fan. They are classed as maybe the most depressing alternative band there is! Yes muse have some depressing songs, but in comparrison to radiohead they're on-par with pop! I know radiohead are a highly political band who do appeal to a mass amount of people who relate to their lyrics and ideas, but muse are expressing their political views and general feelings and if muse's songs are taken any differently then you're not reading into it the right way

 

As above, Apocalypse please is a very political song and escape is a bitter love song. It's just an expression of feelings put to music and those songs are both more uptempo than radioheads more depressing songs which are almost at a sluggish pace.

Don't get me wrong, I love radiohead, but I think it's foolish to have to make one band more superior...

Comparisons between bands are to be expected. I don't know why people think that they're pointless. Sometimes I find them pretty interesting, if annoying at times. If I had a penny for everytime I had to explain the differences between U2 and Coldplay on here I'd be a freakin' trillionaire.

 

Whenever a popular band comes along, people who have an interest in music are going to attempt to emulate them in some way. Even if this is subliminal. Other times it can be glaringly obvious if you listen hard enough. For example, I'm a big Arctic Monkeys AND Libertines fan. In one of the Libertines song's they use the lyric "Reebok classics" and in an Arctic Monkeys song Alex sings "Classic Reeboks". Their sounds are INCREDIBLY similiar. However, I don't get into a tiff about this. I enjoy it, actually. And why shouldn't I? I don't covet one band, my world would get pretty boring that way.

 

If MUSE is an offspring of Radiohead, then that's ok with me. Fuck me, if I were to have a band I'd want to be an offspring of Radiohead. To me, it's just a natural progression of music. The styles move on through different bands, half the times it's how they gain fans. I know a lot of U2 fans love Coldplay now because they can relate to them, due to the similarities shared with U2's style. They're still different bands though. They're not a tribute/cover band. If they WERE this, then people could geniunly state "They are the next U2" :laugh4:

As for people saying Radiohead is depressing, lmfao. I think that's sort of funny. When I'm depressed, I put on Radiohead and feel BETTER. They don't MAKE me depressed. They nurse me out of my depression. I feel like I can grab onto Thom in my moments of crisis and he can say to me "It's alright, I know how it is...". That's what counts. They do sometimes deal in a dark subject matter, but sometimes this is what you must do to write the songs and style that they want to write. Does singing about things people don't want to hear when they're lying on a beautiful beach make a band depressing? Not in my opinion.

hmm alot of people tend to say that they like rh better because they've had more albums and been around for longer. i don't see why that should affect anything.

i love both, radiohead are amazing, but muse have my heart, always have, always will. they have such an energy and passion when they play live, their new clips are fantastique and watching dom drumming away is an amazing site, it makes me want to kill myself with joy. :heart:

But it's a bit unfair for Muse... c'mon, they're a 3-man band... How can 3 people compete with a group of 5 thoroughly talented and united/harmonious people e.g. Radiohead? First of all , i didnt say rh fans are wankers cos i've been a radiohead fan myself since you were around 4 years old probably ( 1994 to be exact) which gives me the experience of more than 10 years to have my own opinions about some ppl who claim to have the finest taste in music and use it as an argument to bash and put down others. I said " some radiohead fans are real pricks" ( notice i didnt say wankers ), what part of that dont you understand? I said it cos i met ( in real life just to make it clear) some radiohead fans who happen to be friends or mine who really think they're so over the rest and worship radiohead in a real sick way, the kind that use to argue about how political their songs are and the deep dark meaning behind each lyric to the point that thom yorke himself would be ashamed to have such pretentious pricks as fans.

So throughout 10 years i've met more than 2 or 3, just for your information. Another thing was when i started use the net a few years ago and joined some radiohead comunities which had different kind of people but there were also pretencious pricks but unlike real world , it was a waste of time to keep an argument with them since they'd just call you names ( which is a coward way to act as you're hiding behind a pc) I prefer to hear insults in my face in person so i can settle the score right away.
