The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You

Featured Replies

Tonight, Muse is giving a private show in Paris. "Theatre du Châtelet" is the area where the concert is taking place. Actually, it's a theater. People were queuing up this morning to get tickets at the price of 30€. I knew it too late.

  • I've been a Muse fan for a couple of years now. I liked a couple of their hits but then a friend invited me to come with him to a Muse concert with him in 2013. The live experience was amazing and I h

Heh... #museleak is one of the top topics on twitter right now... :shocked2::laugh3: Made me do a double take.

So much for leaks being halfway secret for at least a day any more

...on the bright side, maybe all the people scratching their heads over it will become fans...

Did anyone get the full leak? I have bits and pieces of the songs, but the torrent they first leaked through is all but dead. One seeder and it's not going so well. I'll keep looking. Thank you, Twitter!

:stunned:

Wait, has it actually leaked in it's entirety? Because I can't seem to find any working links neither on torrent websites nor in the multimedia section. I've even checked the official Muse forums and there doesn't seem to be any talk of it, but then I guess it's against the rules to mention anything leak-related over there. Just wondering if anyone can confirm that it's actually out there somewhere now?

You can thank twitter for that... it alerted the authorities and they clamped down from what I'm hearing. Nothing like a searchable public database of chatter to find all the major links and exterminate them.

I don't know personally that it's real, but yeah, it's apparently the whole thing.

Oh i see, thanks for clearing that up.

I actually found a link that apparently is the full thing, but I'm not going to be all that surprised if it's actually a fake like all the previous ones. Fingers crossed, though.

And since it's getting streamed on the 10th, we'll only have to wait 2 more days to hear it anyway, so yeah :D

The CD will release by six days. I can wait. Why bother ? :dozey:

edit.

its all over the internet now.

Great cd btw.

Best album ever

Just finished a first full listen. :D

I'm not gonna give any review until I listen to the whole album at least once more, but I must at least recommend to others that you listen to Exogenesis IN FULL, rather than piece by piece.

first 8 songs are solid, Exogenesis is brilliant, absolutely the best thing Muse have ever done.

I love it :bomb:

I really like it, 4 songs on there I didn't like but the rest are really really good.

Great album. Maybe their best since Origin of Symmetry. Just an initial reaction.

All right, so I wrote this up while listening to the full album the second time. I need food now, but the following summarizes my thoughts on each track:

Uprising – A respectable album opener, though far from the best opener in Muse history. Uprising’s greatest strength is that it’s energizing and makes you want to do some sort of movement with your body, whether it’s bop with the bass line or jump with the guitar bursts. Now that we’ve gotten used to it over the past month or so, I think it’s aged better than Eurasia and I get the song in my head often, but falls a bit short of past openers in the context of the entire album.

Resistance – Talk about a deceiving preview. The iTunes clip made it sound repetitive, but in full, this is one of the most remarkable songs on the album. The ambient intro followed by the brilliant piano is captivating, and the chorus which I initially found repetitive is now rather catchy. Of course, the whole “Love is our resistance!” part is a spectacular highlight. It could have worked well as the album opener, although I understand that the band wanted to “pump it up” a bit with Uprising. I also think the 1984 vibe here works far better than with USoE.

Undisclosed Desires – This is being declared the new Supermassive Black Hole everywhere, but I personally have a problem with this, not only because I don’t like SMBH that much, but because this blows it out of the water in every respect. It’s incredibly different from the Muse norm, and I expect it to divide the fanbase immensely, but I can foresee this becoming a huge radio hit. It’s mainstream, but it’s some of the best damn mainstream out there.

United States of Eurasia – Honestly, I’ve liked this song less and less as time goes on. I love Collateral Damage, and the main USoE aspect may work better in a stadium, but not only is it weak lyrically, but the composition may have gone a little too overboard. It’s not even the Queen comparisons that bug me; rather, I think it’s overdramatized. The band has joked about this and say that’s the intention, but that doesn’t prevent this from being one of the weaker songs. This album does large-scale epics better elsewhere.

Guiding Light – When we were told of a classic guitar riff in this song, I suppose I was expecting the second coming of Plug In Baby rather than the second coming of Invincible. (Not that I dislike Invincible or anything.) Still, though it has its cheesy moments, on the whole I think this is a respectable mid-album power ballad. On the weaker half of the album but could make a good future single.

Unnatural Selection – If this isn’t the next New Born, then it’s the closest thing since. Let’s face it – Muse may never return to the style of Origin of Symmetry. Still, this is the next best thing. Awesome riff, raw lyrics, uplifting chorus, mysterious bridge, epic breakdown. It’s already been played live once (which I had resisted watching videos of since I wanted to hear studio versions first), and I can imagine it making a huge splash. Certainly one of the top tracks of the album.

MK Ultra – This one hasn’t clicked with me yet, and may have to grow on me. It’s a good song but I’m just not seeing this one stand out among the crowd. It’s fast and heavy and that’s about all I can think of to say about it. I do love the final 30 seconds, but give me time with this one.

I Belong to You – The most surprising and the most deceptive song on the album. I went in expecting an average song based on the preview. I came out with my ears having sex with my iTunes. Appropriately, it’s quite the sexy song. Certainly one of Muse’s more interesting songs musically (especially the…clarinet solo?), the use of French lyrics only makes it more interesting from there. Speaking of which, I feel Matt’s voice is in prime form here. I eagerly await a translation of the French, but in the meantime, I consider this the shocker of the album and one of my favorites.

Exogenesis – I think it’s only proper to review this as one piece. After all, they would feel empty alone, but they flow together beautifully. Folks are already treating this epic as the best thing ever, and while I wouldn’t go that far, I can at least say that it’s damn good. Part II features my favorite moments of the symphony, but the other parts serve their wonderful purpose. Past album closers have been hard to top, but I think this offers such a fantastic direction that it ends the album really ambitiously, and this will likewise be hard to top.

Time will tell where I rank this in the oirder of Muse albums (though I envision that I'll at least place it above Showbiz and BH&R). To sum it all up, my album favorites are Resistance, Unnatural Selection, and I Belong to You, while I'm not as big on United States of Eurasia and maybe Guiding Light and MK Ultra. There's no terrible song on the album, though. Can't wait to blare this in my car. :D

I think I'm the only person who doesn't love it...

Undisclosed Desires might be my favorite Muse track, but the rest of the album for the most part gets a big

awww the band got soooooo very close to releasing this on their own accord. downloading now. i'll make up my mind in a few days time on whether i like it or not.

MK Ultra is good, Exogenesis is great but I Belong To You is hit and miss...

anybody want to PM me a link?

This album will have to be exceptional to make me want to buy it. I haven't really listened to Muse in over a year now.

For those in Melbourne, the album is out FRIDAY NOT MONDAY. Don't kid yourselves.

I went to JB Hi Fi Bourke st store today, and the staff told me it was in store on Friday.

Plus, they had put up the official promotional posters and stuff around the store, saying "Muse: The Resistance OUT NOW".

Idiots.

So guess who's going to be there at 9am....
