WOW this is very impressive. I read about it few days ago but I didn't want to believe it because there was no source. I'm guessing they certified it Gold based on preorders.

 

Here is what Coldplay wrote when they sent the ASFOS messenger

"Hello again. The second single to be taken from Coldplay's upcoming Ghost Stories album, A Sky Full Of Stars, is now available to download on iTunes worldwide (and as we write, it's already reached #1 in 73 countries!)."

Midnight was a promo single, not an official single. I'm not really sure how to explain the difference. All I know here in the US, only official singles are played on radio. Promo songs are just tracks to help iTunes preorders and create more buzz for the album. The labels don't actively promote it like they do with official singles.

That was for a special event, Record Store Day. It was a promotional single not an official single like Magic. The band called it promo single, I don't know why shouldn't we?

I'm already having problems finding some data about it, if it was an official single, I wouldn't have this issue this early.
