  1. Upon further thought: 1. Charlie Brown 2. UATW 3. DLIBYH
  2. Adele, only because the 1st verse has similar lyrics to Rolling in the Deep - "you're holding in your hands the two halves of my heart". :p Actually, I agree with you, HYSTW, about Lilly Allen. Would've been a great choice.
  3. I hope they do Charlie Brown to diversify. They did the pop approach and made tons of people buy the album....it's time to go the other way now and show the "classic" Coldplay (as far as CB being classic goes). Perhaps POC will come in early-mid 2012 to prime it for Grammies season better? I'd really like to see ANY of the tracks as singles (the only ones that really don't work are the instrumentals and UFO). The rest are all either catchy (DLIBYH, HLH) or straight up beautiful (UATW, UIF)...UWTB and MM are on the intersection of those two categories. So I believe it will be: 1. ETIAW 2. Paradise 3. Charlie Brown (December)...with Charlie Brown Christmas video, I hope. 4. Hurts Like Heaven 5. POC My life would be made if UATW or DLIBYH made it as singles but that's not realistically happening.
  4. It actually has the same chord progression as GOW's verses, where GOW is D-F#m-Bm-G, and DLIBYH is B-D#m-G#m-E...which are both of the I-iii-vi-IV format. And the guitar is line is slightly similar to ETIAW. And the drums / intro have a slight Politik flavour. And the fast speed draws on Things I Don't Understand. That said, DLIBYH sounds a little bit like everything else Coldplay has done but put together and better, in my opinion.
  5. This is great! If THIS were the studio version, CB would be absolutely perfect. I do feel like there's a slight weird offsetness about the bassdrum in the chorus though...was that stolen directly from a live performance? It just feels SLIGHTLY off. But this might just be in my head. Either way, it sounds really good...almost tempted to replace my iTunes version with this one.
  6. There were too many good songs on VLV to make this claim (LIJ, DAAOHF, SS, VH, etc), but I put it at an equal level as AROBTTH.
  7. Great drawing. :D I can feel my face sweating already!
  8. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhRTPCMr0GM]Keane - Crystal Ball - YouTube[/ame] ^Depressing song, depressing video. Enjoy. :) I think POC and Up in Flames actually make a great 2-song-depression-hit. But if you have problems with either one (there are good reasons to) then maybe not. But I think they're extremely depressing songs. UIF especially - the last line, "Could we pour some water on?" The way Chris sings the falsetto so weakly really makes you feel like he's dying or something. In a good way. UIF is like the Videotape of MX...just not quite as good in some respects. :p
  9. True. I wasn't expecting LIJ to be performed the way it was.
  10. Indeed. There have been some great male-female collaborations, but in this case, it's just a song where two people sing. What I think is missing most is harmonizing between Chris and Rihanna (see: Falling Slowly by Glen Hansard/Marketa Irglova) or more call and response of some sort like the end of ETIAW (where Chris does the ooooooh's while Will/band sing the title).
  11. I hear piano pretty clearly throughout, it'll resemble GOW I believe. I can't really hear any moment in the song where there would be any more than an electric guitar (Jonny), bass, drums...the only exception is synth at the end, which will be backing track or Guy.
  12. ^Wasn't that just 1.36? The B-side to the Scientist.
  13. Hmmm there's a long 20 seconds of synth noise after the song "ends" and I don't want to use iTunes to cut it off coz then it sounds chopped. :/
  14. Hmm...42 is in kind of a different category for me. That song is pure kickass but for different reasons. The Scientist is arguably better in some respects - it's definitely more catchy and at the same time haunting. Green Eyes I find just a little bit more boring than UATW though, because among all these songs, UATW has best climax and build; everything from "if we could float away" to the instrumental is just marvelous in my opinion.
  15. ^Took the words out of my mouth Baw8cc. There are rational reasons to hate Coldplay but I saw none of them. The closest thing was the cliche about being "middle of the road" and "bland" which don't really mean anything because "bland" is very subjective..maybe if every song was exactly 1 note, or if all the lyrics were the same [which is why, had you done a better job, you'd have an argument if you tried to criticize the lyrics on MX such as "para para," "wa wa", and "up in flames..."]. But you really didn't give any explanation as to what you (or other critics) mean by "middle of the road" or "giving you a sour taste." Either say these are irrational dislikes, since you didn't present good reasons, OR, explain yourself. For example, does middle of the road mean you don't like Coldplay because it's not as loud as say, Metallica, and not as soft as the Fray? Or because Chris doesn't sing as high as Matthew Bellamy nor as low as Barry White? Because the instrumentation isn't as layered and complex as Radiohead or as simple as Oasis? Music is composed of multiple spectrums, and I don't see anything wrong with liking a band that tends to fall into the middle of these many spectrums - why should there need to be an extreme? And is there really an extreme that is favourable? In fact, why IS Coldplay considered middle of the road when they're not wishy washy about their identity as musicians - they make the music that they want to make, and though it can be diverse and some songs can be polarizing, what is so bad about where they are? Many people and I like Coldplay as they are and where they fall in the various genres (because no music fits solely into one genre, at least today). Not to mention you named tracks and quite a few positives about the band. How much more do you need to outweigh the negatives? As a "rational article", your article points out just as many if not more things to like than dislike about Coldplay, so what else needs to give?
  16. WHOA. What IS that wonderful song?!?!?! On the other hand, it might just be a cover of A-Ha or something of the sort..since the band sometimes does covers during soundcheck right?
  17. It's annoying to me because I always listen to MX as a whole...and now I haven't an excuse to listen to it. :( Yes, at this point it'd be silly to have the entire EP be on the LP, but it's still such an amazing song that's definitely better than some of the tracks that DID make the cut; namely, UFO, POC, UIF.... (this is of course my opinion).
  18. This. I've always felt that MX was just a *littly* too short compared to VLV (which I think is the perfect length) because VLV actually has 12 full songs (add ROL and CSC, not to mention the Escapist) while MX only has 11.
  19. In fact it's fantastically underrated.
  20. Yep, Jonny plays it in live performances on the guitar, also.
  21. I think it deserves the praise. Very interesting imagery, great instrumentation, it's happy-but-sad but...... I don't know what you want to hear. It's not the most experimental or catchy or big or quiet song on the album, but I'm not seeing why you would want to deny its status as a moment of brilliance.
  22. Ohhh I see it now. I hope that isn't the lyric though just because I don't want to be wrong about this, and because that's a really random place to say, "amen."
  23. Really? o_O How can that work? Is riot supposed to be an adverb or what?? Or is supposed to be a shortening of "we'll run a riot."
  24. It irritates me that the style is "the fans... the fans"...when it's the opinion of one person. I feel like this was a bit of a lazy slag on the new album. He/she didn't give enough credit about the lyrics, and makes some unjustified claims. Especially about UIF, DLIBYH, POC - how do they know UIF is boring? How do they know they did POC just to top charts?
