Honestly, I don't know or care because you can't even hear Chris, so I'm going to tell you in very short terms, and possibly come back to give a better answer if you really really want me to. :p What I would do is follow the bassline that I tabbed in my thread and then use these chords: Chris's guitar is 1/2 step down too, so I'm going to tell you what they would be if the guitar was in standard tuning (which would give you the album version): Chris enters at the crawlllllll bit with... E - 022100 Verse (after the crawl). I think he plays chords but sometimes it looks like he's playing the same riff as Jonny but an octave dow. B - 799800 D#m - 11,13,13,11,11x G#m - 46644x E - 022100 If you're looking to do your own solo or acoustic version, the best chords to play would actually be the ones from Swallowed in the Sea: tune your guitar to EADGBd# (or that tuning and a half step down), then play 799800, 11/13/13/11/0/0, 466400, and 022100. In the choruses, it appears Chris plays a high E, so it'll go like this: E - 022100, F# - 24432x, D#m, high E - 12/14/14/13/12/0/0 x2 E - 022100, C#m - 9/11/11/9/9x At the end, he seems to play the same solo as Jonny.

I don't think UWTB ought to be that hard. I think it, and UFO, are just having a delayed entry because the boys don't see them fitting in the setlist as of now. Or perhaps, they're devising a really cool way to play them that is taking them time to perfect. That was certainly the case with DLIBYH, because they were playing it in soundcheck pretty early, but we see now that they had to lower the key of the song by a half step (probably to make it easier to sing), and they made it so that Chris plays electric guitar. But what does UWTB need? Strings? Ah's? Those are completely feasible, considering VLV, considering the noises in Charlie Brown. One thing I think that might be stopping them is that UWTB's second half is a bit hard to sing, but I'm sure Chris will figure that out. Backing tracks are always an interesting topic to me so, so here's my take: Be careful, also, when you say "pre-recorded" because certain backing tracks aren't actually pre-recorded and are played live in some capacity. The best example of this is the bit of keyboard that Chris plays at the beginning of LIJ, which then gets repeated for the whole song. But for a lot of songs, a member of the band may be playing a synth or backing item for part of the song and then switch to their own instrument. The rest seems to be prerecorded but it's tricky to tell. I'd say VLV's songs edge out MX for reliance by just a little only because of VLV itself...but both albums use a lot of synthesizers that are being thrown on top of everything else, either as pre-recorded backing tracks or as live things that become backing tracks. My opinion is that there is no song on MX that "falls apart" without synth compared to VLV (fall apart isn't a bad thing, since stripped versions of songs tend to be really good esp with Coldplay, I mean to say - lose what they sound like originally). For funsies, I'm going to do a song by song breakdown of what is on the backing tracks and then bold the songs that in my opinion, lose integrity when you remove the backing tracks. LIT - would fall apart without the dulcimer part that is on the backing tracak COL - minimal backing track, just noises/extra drumbeat I think Lost - live organ (Jonny) becomes backing track, possibly extra drums and vocals 42 - only has strings LIJ - keyboard starts out live (Chris), atmospheric guitar bits Reign of Love - none (!) Yes - strings VLV - strings start out live (Jonny) Violet Hill - piano on backing track Strawberry Swing - organs and strings, 2nd guitar DAAHF - near the end of the bridge, there are some guitar-feedback noises that are on the backing track MX - little melodies and noises near the end are on the backing track HLH - a lot of synth on backing track Paradise - strings/synth (Jonny) becomes backing track. I've also found, based on the footage at the Summertime Ball that some of the piano is on the backing track because there's a moment when Chris holds the mic and doesn't play piano, yet you still hear piano. But a lot of what Chris plays falls on *top* of that backing track so it's mostly live, if that makes sense. Charlie Brown - the noises, some piano UATW - none (!) MMIX/ETIAW - synth (Guy) and acoustic guitar (Will) become backing tracks Major Minus - some noises throughout U.F.O. - they haven't played it live, but if they stay true to the album version, it'd obviously need a lot of strings but my suspicion is that it will be adapted to guitar/piano for Jonny and Will POC - synth, strings, and Rihanna's vocals UIF - strings AHT/DLIBYH - AHT is entirely backing track, as is the end of DLIBYH. But DLIBYH itself just has some noises. UWTB - would require the ahh's, and the strings in the middle In my opinion, VLV has more songs that stop sounding like what they are when you remove the backing tracks. Take MX's biggest hits - if you listen to acoustic versions of Charlie Brown, Paradise, and ETIAW...they don't sound all too different from the studio version compared to acoustic versions of VLV and Lost.

Most likely is HLH, yeah. I think it's more radio-friendly than DLIBYH because it's a little less "heavy." DLIBYH is a bit too pounding and doesn't have a super memorable one-line hook like "you use your heart as a weapon.." nor some "oohho oohho oohoh's" that we expect from Coldplay. That said, I do like DLIBYH just as much if not more than HLH just for personal reasons. Agreed, except personally I would've liked to see: 1. ETIAW 2. Charlie Brown, Sep 2011 3. POC, Jan 2012 (to still milk the Grammys and BRITs) 4. UATW, April 5. Paradise or HLH or DLIBYH in the summer I'm kind of beating a dead horse by wishing things went down differently, but I think Charlie Brown as the lead single would have more effectively shown off the diversity of the album. I think Charlie Brown is more universally liked, both by CP and non-CP fans compared to the synth pop that ETIAW and POC are. Not that I don't like that style, but releasing Paradise as the lead single kind of paints this era in a little more negative of a light than I would have preferred. UATW is a single is kind of a pipe dream, but I love it too much. And while I'm still complaining, MTM should've been on the album. :p Or it should be the single for that EP we keep dreaming up. :lol:

I think I'm the last person on Coldplaying that likes Rihanna's voice and the way it fits on POC. >__< On the other hand, I think this cover (like the acoustic EP version) once again shows that this song would've sounded a lot better if it had one less layer of synth. Kelly does a good job with it. :)

I was expecting a more linear plot to it like Paradise or Strawberry Swing, but upon mental digest, I like it more. It's wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the Charlie Brown video.

It was my favourite album for a few months but in the last couple months, I went back to Viva and I'm starting to find that VLV is my favourite album with MX as a close second. VLV's themes speak to me more, and as a whole, it's a cooler piece of art to me. MX is slightly too synth-heavy in a few places, namely Paradise and POC. Even the album version of HLH is a little much for me. VLV (with the exception of VLV the track) was definitely in a better place for me - balanced stuff like Cemeteries of London, 42, Lovers in Japan, Violet Hill, Strawberry Swing, and DAAHF being the standouts to me. The last four songs of the album do a really good job of closing it too. It's slightly less cohesive, VLV, but it makes up for it in feeling really full and diverse. MX clinches the disappointment by not having Moving to Mars and having 1 less full length song (it just feels too short to me even though it's about the same as VLV). Speaking of individual songs, it was UATW, Charlie Brown, HLH, and Major Minus (the festival songs) that really grabbed me. ETIAW grew on me by the time MX was released (but I didn't like it that much when it was first released). Paradise grew on me quickly especially when they started playing it live, but it's kind of meh again because of the synth heaviness [not so live]. I was really obsessed with DLIBYH back in the day, but the lyrics come off a bit shallow now, and I don't like the live rendition that much because it hasn't got any piano. UWTB has grown on me a lot though, and as a whole, AHT-DLIBYH-UWTB is a really solid album closing (DAAHF is the better track though, as are Violet Hill and Strawberry Swing). Please please PLEASE let there be an EP.

UATW is an amazing combination between intimate and epic. :) Charlie Brown is the other obvious one. I also voted for UIF because I like the way the song comes together live. I mean it's by no means the best song, but it's still very beautiful.

I'm fairly sure they'll put a B-side or two or unreleased song, or MTM, on a live album. If they don't, then it'd be a huge disappointment.

I really hope so, since it's not at an incarnation I'm happy with. If you listen to the studio version though, there is DEFINITELY piano. Not just guitar with a pianoish effect. Throughout the song. Although you are right that the main riff in the verses is guitar with pianoish sound. And it's clear that this song has needed workshopping considering how long they've waited to play it, not to mention they transposed it down a 1/2 step, probably to make it easier to sing for Chris. On a positive note though - has anyone noticed how the ooooh's at the end have turned into a guitar solo for Jonny? It sounds EPIC!

DLIBYH sounded pretty good.....let's keep in mind the video quality was HORRIBLE. But at least admit Will sounds AMAZING on the song, no? I'm actually quite disappointed though, only on the basis that Chris doesn't seem to play ANY piano on the song live. :( :( :( Which was what I was looking forward to most because this is how I fell in love with Paradise - the live version is so guitar-piano-bass dominated (despite still having so much synth).
