BRILLIANT. I would love to see the entire song.

I don't have a good knowledge of guitar effects/pedals, but I'm pretty sure what Jonny's doing on Yellow is not what he's doing on GPASYUF. It looks and sounds like Jonny is playing the chords from the verse of Yellow but doing sound swells either manually or with an effects pedal. His hand position in this video doesn't give enough information on that (unless we watch it 50 times). GPASYUF it looks like he's just picking one note constantly and has his sustain wayyyy up. The sound of it makes me think it might be the same effect he uses on LIJ.

No, as many posters have said. And IMO, the bass on MX = X&Y > VLV > AROBTTH > Parachutes in descending order of kickass-ness.

The lyrics are different in most live versions, add "Live 2003" to a google search to get what is in the live version.

I don't remember when/where this was from, but I remember R42 saying something about UIF, cool live guitar work by Jonny on Paradise (which really is nice, the extra slides), and the "violently life affirming" nature of DLIBYH. I think this was after the ACL taping/festival. That was also a fun time. :lol: Too true mate...although in my opinion the current live version, disregarding the silliness of Rihanna being a video, sounds the very best. The Chris dance during the middle of the song is pretty epic in the Rock Im Park version. :D

Great work! I remember listening to the original recording of POC and trying so hard to figure out everything about it. In retrospect, it's so sloppy - too much synth/little guitar, Chris's singing is not great and he mucks the lyrics in a couple places; although the drums + bass was interesting. Still sounds good but it's so interesting to go from then to now.

HLH single art >>>>> POC at least. I like it as much as Paradise's art, probably my other favourite of the era so far.

Lu'kaa I love your sig. :D I love X&Y the song AND the album. Speaking of the song, I wish the piano was louder/more prominent in the album, since Chris really completes the song with his pianowork in the live versions. X&Y also has one of my favourite basslines. The part when the 2nd verse begins, when the bass and guitar join is a great moment. The bass really has a walking quality. X&Y the album, I've realized, is brilliant because it juxtaposes a very well-done synth and guitar-driven space rock atmosphere yet it has the most personal lyrics of any Coldplay album. To me that represents the ultimate expressions of loneliness (Square One, What If, Talk), love (Swallowed in the Sea, A Message, X&Y, Fix You), and a sense of wonder at the world and universe and perhaps also a cynicism towards it (White Shadows, Speed of Sound, The Hardest Part, Twisted Logic). The album also has some of the best guitarwork (IMO, better than the first two albums, not as good as VLV/MX), hands down the BEST bass from Guy [see: Square One, What If, A Message, X&Y in particular], a lot of good drum moments too in What If and White Shadows. The vocal work is also very cool in my opinion. Of course, all of these things are a double edged sword - spacy stuff --> accuse Coldplay of ripping off U2 or whoever else. Personal lyrics? "Cheesy." Good vocal work is code for "a lot of falsetto" and I think Chris Martin is one of the best falsetto singers of our time but others just find that annoying. To complicate things, X&Y is also a tad bit too long, not the most well-ordered at some points. To really tighten the tracklist, my personal recommendation would have been to switch Fix You and Twisted Logic, and remove the Hardest Part and Low. Even though I LOVE every song on the album...although at certain points I think the Hardest Part wasn't quite done right on the album compared to the Chris solo version.

In case anyone wasn't sure, it's DEFINITELY EADGBd / capo 5th. I'm working on a comprehensive tab for this song though....SOON.

I've read they use a Kawaii MP-5 on stage (the purple synthesizer in Paradise, Lost, LIJ [in the VLV tour], and VLV). Wouldn't know about studio though.

I really wanted a cartoon video for CB, but one for HLH would be nice too - it could be this era's Strawberry Swing! Regarding a single edit...I think it would come down to length if the ending were chopped by a bit (the part with the ahhh-ooooooooooooh). MX would make a good intro, I'd say.

Thanks for the soundchecks - the two new songs sound amazing!

It doesn't sound much like Queen to me. :( I also don't like how the piano kind of disappears when the guitar solos and other stuff kind of cuts in.

Pretty cool song, but I think it's a bit loud/aggressive to be an Olympic theme jaja. I kind of enjoyed the loud bombastic-ness of it, but it doesn't quiet speak to me like most Muse songs do. I kind of like it on first listen though. The prelude's amazing too. Honestly, I feel like ETIAW would make the perfect Olympic song, is that weird of me? It's got a good rebellion/let's-kick-some-ass feel, esp in the second verse (although I guess ETIAW is predicated on things kind of sucking in certain ways).

Well...what you play doesn't change to a very large extent despite the 3 tunings I kind of mentioned (standard, 1/2 step down, Swallowed in the Sea tuning). It's really the e string that changes - you either play it or you don't. But yeah honestly I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out anything more specific than the above post since I'm working only with audience recordings, which means poor visuals, and not-so-great sound mixing. It's like...REALLY hard to hear what Chris is playing, sorry. But those chords ^above will get you close.
