  1. AMAZING setlist by the way. My best friend is seeing them in Houston.. :)
  2. Hey guys.......as you can tell I'm incredibly absentee and don't have enough time to do things seriously anymore. :( Zergio I don't know if you're still around man, but thanks for your help over the months. Incidentally, I just finished tabbing Violet Hill's lead guitar and bass on a whim, so here we go! Let me know, bass players, if I got the tuning right since it's a correct way to play it, but I don't know if it's the best way. Regarding Jonny's tuning, it should be C#G#C#F#Ad# so that at the end of the choruses, he can play a really loud C# chord, 0577xx. Violet Hill - Coldplay Tuning: DADGBe, might actually be C#G#C#F#Ad# (but that’s just a hassle) Time Signature: 4/4 except for in the choruses Roadmap: Intro = 13 bars of creative harmonics on these notes: C#, D#, or G#...or B (esp 9th fret) Verse 1 Prechorus + Chorus Verse 2 Prechorus + Chorus Solo Prechorus + Chorus Outro Verse 1 – Play this twice C#m C#m/B e|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| G|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------| D|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------| A|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| D|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| A F#m F#m F E D# e|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| B|-----------------------------------|-----------------------------------| G|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------| D|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|4-3-----|2-1-----|\11x A|-----------------------------------|------------------4-3------2-1-----|\11x D|-----------------------------------|------------------4-3------2-1-----|\11x Prechorus and Chorus – Lots of good fill opportunities here. 3. The marketing for CB has definitely been botched. I see it as a song that can be MUCH more universally liked than ETIAW or Paradise (as good as those are too, both musically and on the radio). This. If they ever release MTM, UATW...................or a ATH-DLIBYH-UWTB double A-side as singles...then I'd have a lot more faith in the marketing side of Coldplay. (although I think the beginning of MTM would have to be changed to make it more radio friendly) ETIAW and Paradise were pretty solid in the context of making cool stuff happen in the CP world. But now with the ambivalence over CB and POC...it's created kind of a depression. I'm optimistic the tour will bring things up...and hopefully they'll pick up the pieces and make CB a full blown single with B-sides. And an 8 song EP would make my life...I would even be happy if they put MTM on there again just so that song gets the exposure it deserves.
  4. This, except Prospekt's March is the better song, IMO, because it actually has the other band members rather than Chris and a bunch of strings.
  5. They took a step in the right direction by doing 1-2 song substitutions with stuff like COL, Shiver, ENL...even Daylight, What If. If they added a couple slots for that so we could hear things like SS, LIJ, Square One...etc.
  6. Just picked some random posts that caught my eye... I would argue MX has the most and best Jonny of any album.... -HLH, three massive Jonny solos. -Paradise - big solo. Live, Jonny's guitar is more noticeable. -CB - kind of the IMP or Yellow of this era. -UATW - only that one part (comparable to Amsterdam). -ETIAW - Jonny is one of the driving factors - the riff is VERY recognizable and good. This is one of the few guitar riffs of Coldpay's that I can play and have people recognize right away, the others being CB, Strawberry Swing (sometimes), and Fix You. -Major Minus - rocking! -UFO - No Jonny. :( -POC - I think the main riff is actually Jonny, although we've yet to see whether he plays that on guitar or on synth (at Rock Im Park it's synth, but I would bet it'll show up on the guitar). -UIF - a little Jonny, but still important. -DLIBYH - underrated song, but Jonny's work is still important. -UWTB - agreed. He's way too low on the mix. :( I did this off the top of my head...I honestly believe MX has some of the most memorable Jonny moments and parts of any album. VLV does have some great guitarwork too though. Actually the singing at the end is NOT looped. It's Jonny, Will, and Guy singing it! The bass is still somewhat distorted live. I like the texture it has on the CD though...it reminds me of various Muse basslines which are comparably more distorted than normal Coldplay lines. I do object somewhat to the overall amount of synth/strings on Paradise. I believe the live version is PERFECT in piano-guitar-otherstuff mix. Yes, the drums are hip hoppy...but why does that matter? If you take the drums from Strawberry Swing or Lost you get tribal-sounding drums. It's just a fun application of something you usually get somewhere else. I don't think it's very justified to not like what they did with the drums in Paradise (or UIF)..I think they're very valid stylistic decisions. It's true that no one will recognize Guy for a bassline except for MAYBE Paradise or Square One. But that doesn't mean he's not important. I highly doubt he plays what he does out of skill limitation - see live performances of Spanish Rain to see him playing lead guitar for example. He's VERY important though. I don't think that should ever be denied. Just listen to ETIAW, Major Minus, Speed of Sound, Politik, GPASYUF, Daylight, Shiver, etc...he's no Flea or Chris Wolstenholme, but Coldplay's not a band of virtuosos. I do wish his bass would be featured in at least one song in a prominent way though....I'm personally a very bass-and-drums listener to music. White Shadows. ...I don't think the mix has ever adversely affected Guy...I think it's just a matter of having good speakers/headphones, because bass is the first thing lost when sound quality isn't good.
  7. It actually looks like he's saying "of course."
  8. Politik and Amsterdam have vaguely similar structures, which I really like about them as the opening and closing tracks of AROBTTH. Indeed though...Amsterdam is one of Coldplay's greatest songs. ^That Glasto setlist looks fucking mega. :( Shame they just went with the festival setlist as it was. Fingers crossed for this tour. If they can bring back Daylight and What If...
  9. ^Indeed - if say, there were 5 singles and each had a B-side. And then throw in a couple things and you have an EP. HOPEFULLY.
  10. Hi Oracle, do you know what this song is? I found it looking for a live version of Yes (on a sidenote - is there any televised/proshot version of Yes anywhere? I would LOVE to see one). This is a soundcheck where apparently Chris is playing electric drum. Thanks. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTIci0LuM5I&feature=related]Chris Martin playing the drums at the Coldplay soundcheck in Toronto - YouTube[/ame]
  11. This LOL. I think none of them, by the transitive property. :p Also, listening to an audience recording of MTM...you can really hear Jonny's guitar (look it up on youtube, 1st result)....it's SO intricate and beautiful that you don't hear as clearly on the studio or even the TV versions.
  12. I also feel like the way EP's are framed makes the obscure B-side analogues more accessible. I would argue many more people know about Glass of Water, PFFA, Moving to Mars, and Major Minus than most B-sides.
  13. Bwajja this title is actually really funny. MX wasn't a schizophrenic album, it's narcoleptic!
  14. MosesTheMarshmallow replied to a post in a topic in The World Of Music
Oh. My. LORD. Never thought DYWBAS would ever be heard again....I'm so happy right now.
  15. Similar melody, very different delivery.
  16. I don't really hear any Radiohead influence at all on this song...? On the other hand, the vocals in UIF remind me of Fake Plastic Trees on the line "this time I know-oww it's gone" etc - that falsetto jump is in both songs. You need to give them more of a chance, IMO.
  17. The Noel-Chris duet was not as good as I was hoping...Chris was more ornamental than he could've been. Now if it had been JUST Noel and Chris (no supporting band) or perhaps Noel and Coldplay. That would've been ace. :( Or Noel and Chris doing POC.
  18. The beginning of UWTB reminds me of Somewhere Over the Rainbow or a dreamy showtune. Coldplay style. I was kind of meh about the little chorus where all the strings kick in, but it started making more sense when I thought of it like ^that.
  19. MosesTheMarshmallow replied to a post in a topic in The World Of Music
Ohmy. The songs sound SO MUCH better with a real horn section.
  20. Not to mention Coldplay's videos have evolved plenty. But this has not really been a positive one. Paradise was lighthearted fun done in a really cool way, ETIAW was aesthetically very tight......Charlie Brown is just...bland for what it is. Maybe we're supposed to take it as a sensory overload thing? (think U2 during Zooropa). But that's not what the song means to me.
