MSNBC staff and news service reports Updated: 6:31 p.m. ET Oct. 6, 2005 NEW YORK - New York City police and Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday alerted the city's residents to a possible terror threat to the subway system. They said information on the threat, which was passed on by the FBI, originated overseas, and was being evaluated for its credibility. However, they said it was specific enough about a target and timing to warrant advising subway riders to be vigilant in coming days. "We have never had before a specific threat to our subway system," said Bloomberg. "Suffice it to say that its importance was enhanced above the normal level by the detail that …

I do manage to download and open rar-files on my computer. What doesn't work is copying the mp3-files inside the rar-folder somewhere else or record them on cd. Does one need Winrar to do this? Or maybe an access code? So far a message always pops up saying "The wma-file is protected and cannot be processed." Thanks very much for any clues!

Any opinions? Hillary might be the one in 2008 I would like to see for the first time someone other than the "white, supremacist, capitalist, patriarchy" --that is= white, christian, business, MAN I got this email from Mayor John Spencer of New York, who apparantly is running against her for the senate seat and it troubled me Isn't this a fight against a "woman" more than her politics? He doesn't attack her policies much or her views, but the fact that its a woman in the presidency and "we have to stop her" EMAIL:

"36 million lives could be saved worldwide by 2015 if deaths from chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer, are reduced by an additional 2% annually... globally, around 58 million people will die in 2005; 35million of these deaths will be from chronic diseases." :o And the worst part of it is, the people most affected are not the rich, but the urbanised poor... Some food for thought: http://www.thelancet.com/collections/series/chronic_diseases These are a series of free articles by the Lancet concerning chronic diseases and how they could be effectively reduced... especially in third-world countries (just register a username & passwor…

An orgasm is literally a mind-blowing experience for a woman, scientists have revealed.Much of her brain shuts down when she reaches a sexual climax. The discovery was made during experiments in the Netherlands when couples' brains were scanned during lovemaking. Neuroscientist Dr Gert Holstege, from the University of Groningen said it appeared that shutting down the brain during orgasm ensured that obstacles such as fear and stress did not get in the way. "When you are fearful or have a very high level of anxiety, then it's hard to have sex because during sex you really have to give yourself and let go." Men were studied in the same way but because the male orgas…

Bennett under fire for remarks on blacks, crime Friday, September 30, 2005; Posted: 1:08 p.m. EDT (17:08 GMT) Bennett is being harshly criticized, but he says he is standing by his comments. This? WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Congressional Democrats blasted former Education Secretary William Bennett on Thursday for saying that aborting "every black baby in this country" would reduce the crime rate, and demanded their Republican counterparts do the same. "This is precisely the kind of insensitive, hurtful and ignorant rhetoric that Americans have grown tired of," said Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Illinois. White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan told reporters on Frida…

Bali police probe suicide bomb link Sunday Oct 2 13:14 AEST Police forensic teams are sifting through the debris left behind Saturday's coordinated bomb attacks on three crowded restaurants on Indonesia's resort island of Bali that killed at least 25 people and wounded more than 100 others. Police said they were looking for evidence over whether suicide bombers were to blame. They believe the blasts were the work of Jemaah Islamiah (JI), al-Qaeda's south-east Asian network. Three Australians - a teenage boy, a woman and a man - were listed as dead by hospital officials. Others known to have been killed including a Japanese citizen and a dozen Indonesians. The w…

For the first time in history, an adult, live specimen of a giant squid (Architeuthis Julesvernicus) has been drawn out of the briny, unknown deeps of the Pacific Ocean and captured. Dirk Savage, the famous British explorer and cryptozoologist, recovered the creature after months of searching in the Pacific Ocean, near the exotic oriental isles of Japan. "It took several months of searching in the Pacific Ocean, near the exotic oriental isles of Japan," said Savage during a interview on Monday, "But the inevitable march of science could not be slowed, not even by this beady-eyed monster from the black depths!" Proudly standing with his bandaged arms folded across t…
