How terrible - poor Bono, U2, crew and fans! I cross my fingers for a full and speedy recovery.

BONO's BACK SURGERY PUTS U2 DATES IN JEOPARDY

U2's lead singer Bono has had emergency spinal surgery after suffering an injury while preparing for tour dates.

The 50-year-old musician was treated at a specialist neurosurgery clinic in Munich and is expected to stay there for a number of days.

He will then return to his home in Ireland to recuperate further, a spokesman said.

The band's next tour date in the US on 3 June has been postponed, while their Glastonbury appearance may be in doubt.

GLASTONBURY APPEARANCE

Further information about the possible impact on other tour dates would be announced in due course, a statement on the band's website added.

The Irish rock band was due to perform a string of gigs across North America, returning to Europe in August.

They were due to begin rehearsals on Tuesday for the opening date in Salt Lake City, and are scheduled to headline the Glastonbury Festival on 25 June.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness said of the tour: "We will make plans to reinstate the dates as soon as possible."

He added it was "unfortunate that we're inconveniencing fans" and that it was causing disruption to the band's 400-strong crew.

He advised fans to continue monitoring the U2 website for further news.

The 360 Degree tour earned the band around $109m (£75.3m) in 2009, making it the world's most profitable of the year, according to figures from Billboard magazine.

I'm sure another band could step in U2's place if Bono is unwell.

Glastonbury takes place June 25.

It's amazing how for all the dates in 2009 there was no cancellation or postponement whatsoever. Including playing in two continents, with hectic schedules, and long distances between each city. Also to point out the crazy shit that Bono does in every show: dancing with the Ultraviolet circular microphone, doing monkey-like jumps during Crazy Tonight's remix, this type of stuff isn't healthy at all in the long run, he's human after all.

I know a lot of people who are going to the Anaheim shows, and they already booked the hotel and airfare. This is bad.

The thing is even if he recovers quickly, how much Bonoing can he do?

I bet it won't be quickly.

I really hope they don't end up cancelling the Anaheim show. :( But if it's for the better of Bono's health then I'll deal with it. That's more important. Plus I've waited for many months now, I can wait longer.

They won't cancel them, they most likely postpone them for a later date, just like they did with the 4th leg of the Vertigo Tour in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and Hawaii.

A postponed show is better than no show at all.

This is all very, very disappointing. But ey, at least they're not cancelled, right? I don't think they'll cancel them unless he like, dies or something, god forbid.

We can wait. We've waited this long, we can wait a month or two more. :nice: GET WELL SOON, BONO!

I will be pissed if they can't do Glastonbury. REALLY PISSED!

But get well soon Mr Vox!

So would a lot of other people, especially U2 fans whom got tickets just because U2 are playing the festival.

Back and forward they go, all in aid of a good show!

I hope Bono is alright, especially since i just got tickets for them in philly. Is anyone else going to that gig?

Although a show that is a 14 hour drive may be difficult to move ahead in people's schedules :P

^ they will most likely start axing dates until the point in time when Bono is ready to go. That way, they only need to disrupt the schedules of people who had tickets early in the tour. If you push the whole thing back, everyone has to adjust.

This is assuming Bono will not miss an extended period of time. If he's out for months, they might reconfigure the whole thing.

My shows are in early June at Anaheim. I fully expect them to be cancelled. If Bono doesn't feel well, I hope they are. I don't want to see a half ass version of u2. I'd rather wait.

Yeah, and because it's an outdoor tour, it most likely will be in worse weather later in the year. But what can you do?

I wonder when a decision will be made. 1st date of the tour is now only 2 weeks away.

I think they're making a tour announcement tomorrow according to my friend Aaron.
