Your betters and those who might be considered benieth you. She never believed in the class system. There is only money. The more you have the better you are for it. The less. The worse your financial situation. She believed that everyone should get along no matter what their situation, their colour, there political standing...none of that mattered. We are all equal. There are no betters and there are no worse. There is just situation and what you do that counts.
