The Oasis Thread

Yeah Liam tries to take a swing at the guy, not sure if he actually hits him though. Stuff like that's pretty scary though, just look at what happened to Dimebag Darrell.

However, I couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the footage and the fact that it happened to Noel.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX5JBsKih0c]YouTube - Oasis' Noel Gallagher assaulted on stage in Toronto--2008-9-7[/ame]

Oasis star Noel Gallagher was admitted to hospital after being pushed over during the band's set at the V Festival in Toronto, Canada on Sunday.

According to the band's website, the star "fell heavily onto his monitor speakers". He may have fractured his rib and sustained ligament damage.

The 40-year-old was playing guitar during a performance of Morning Glory when a stage invader pushed him over.

Oasis have hinted that a gig on Tuesday may be cancelled as a result.

Fans have been asked to keep checking the band's website for updates on the show, which is due to take place in London, Ontario.

Gallagher's attacker was hauled to the ground by security guards. The guitarist's younger brother Liam, who was singing, had to be restrained from retaliating.

The incident was captured on video by a fan in the audience and posted on the YouTube website.

Oasis left the stage immediately after the attack, but the show resumed a few minutes later.

Gallagher's assailant was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault, according to the statement on Oasis' website.

The festival gig came as the band prepare to complete their North American tour, which ends in New York on Friday.

Gallagher has yet to comment on the incident on the blog which he has been updating throughout the tour.

Oasis Update: Noel Hospitalized, Assailant Arrested

Okay, we admit it. Upon first viewing the YouTube clip of Noel Gallagher getting knocked on his ass by an unnamed assailant during last night's Oasis set at the Virgin Festival, we LOL'd. Kind of a lot. Perhaps we even felt a smidgen of schadenfreude, too. But it would seem those reactions were a bit premature. According to a message just posted to their website, Oasis are taking the matter very seriously.

In addition to providing perspective on what happened, the Oasis statement reveals a couple significant details surrounding the incident: 1. Although Noel Gallagher returned to perform after getting knocked over, he was taken to a hospital following the show and examined for "a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage," and 2. The assailant was detained by police and "will be charged with assault."

UPDATE: According to the Toronto Star, the attacker is 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan.

What's more, presumably due to Noel's injuries, it's not clear yet whether Oasis will perform as scheduled in London, Ontario tomorrow night (September 9).

Here's that statement in full:

Oasis' Noel Gallagher was attacked by an unidentified man during the band's show in Toronto last night. While Noel and the band were performing "Morning Glory", the assailant ran on from the back of the stage and pushed Noel from behind, who fell heavily on to his monitor speakers.

Despite his injuries, Noel returned to the stage a few minutes later to complete the band's set but was taken to hospital after the show to be examined for a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage. The assailant was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault.

No decision has been made regarding Tuesday's concert in London, Ontario, but fans are urged to keep checking the band's web site Oasisinet.com and local media for updates.

As if all that weren't bad enough, NME.com reports that former Jam frontman Paul Weller was rumored to appear with Oasis at Virgin Festival to play his part in "Champagne Supernova", but that the assault incident dashed those plans.

Pitchfork also talked to Matt Bowman, frontman for UK press darlings and fellow Virgin Festival performers the Pigeon Detectives, who claims he was "just bang in front of Noel" when the attacker came at the elder Gallagher.

"It looked like [Noel] was in quite a lot of pain," according to Bowman. "It was pretty shit-cheap shot-- just from the back, and Noel didn't expect it coming. It certainly wiped him out."

Bowman described himself and his bandmates as being "literally dumbstruck" by the proceedings. "I mean, we had never seen anything like it...it put quite a damper on the mood."

what a pussy attacking from behind!!

Hopefully the security did him backstage afterwards!

did Noel really get THAT hurt from the fall? I mean he did finish the set. I find it hard to believe that he was in a tremendous amount of pain.

Of course I laughed, this guy shows no respect to other musicians, it wouldn't be funny if it wasn't Noel Galligar.

So you would be able to stand up if someone runs up to you from behind and tackles you? You sir, are a douche bag.

Hope Noel's ok. Sounds like he's been hurt pretty bad. :( Messed up ribs can be nasty. What a trooper finishing the show like that. Why do the psychos have to be from Canada lately anyway? :inquisitive: Hope Liam landed a couple of those punches on the moron.

On a happier note, loving what's out of the new songs.  Can't wait for the album.

Such a wonderful grasp of basic physics you have. :dozey:

No I would not be able to stay standing. Your mis interpretated what i've said.

The guy is a complete douche within in the music industry, his comments not only are unwarrented but they are hurtful to the musicians he attacks and their fanbases.

My post was about how this man with an ego the size of Spain could be taken down so easily.

What comes around goes around, im sure Damon Alburn had a chuckle to himself as well.

And what if he had been standing at the front of the stage, or the guy had been carrying a knife?

We'd be talking about a funeral then. Would you still be laughing?

No, im responding to what actually happened, not what did not happen.

What a pointless point that was to make.

You could say 'Could have been' about any situation, and make up any stupid fictional possibilities. Thom Yorke could have been the attacker..

Now that would have been funny.

I'm sorry, but to find something like that funny says a lot about your character tbh. But as you say, what goes around comes around.

Of course, I don't find it that funny. I suppose amusing is more what im saying. A poetic justace of sorts.

I certainly didn't laugh and the video.

Fair enough.

Have to question the appalling security. How can someone get behind the stage and then up onto it unchallenged like that? Heads will surely roll.

I think your talking about Liam not Noel, Noel is cool maybe not Liam, I dont like Oasis, I think they are not good but I hope Noel gets better!!

Nope both of them run their mouths a lot. Noel tends to do it while trying to be a high profile celebrity, Liam's more low profile.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2TylcAyg-E]YouTube - Liam Gallagher interview 2006[/ame]

Anyhow, check out this interview and you'll see how funny Liam can be.

Of course, I don't find it that funny. I suppose amusing is more what im saying. A poetic justace of sorts.

I certainly didn't laugh and the video.

Yet in an earlier post you said "Of course I laughed", which is it?

It's one thing to run your mouth in the media about people, who lets face it, run their mouths back (it's something that usually happens when both bands have an album coming or released around the same time), it's completely different to launch a physical attack.

I really hate people who think just because someone is in the limelight they deserve violence to be committed against them.

Then again, if that's your way of looking at things, I guess we have the right to laugh now if something unfortunate happens to you seeing as how you've been running your trap.

And what if he had been standing at the front of the stage, or the guy had been carrying a knife?

We'd be talking about a funeral then. Would you still be laughing?

I thought about that man. When I heard that noel was tackled down by a fan maniac I was glad that it was only a push, it could have been worst, he could have killed Noel. I don't know why when I heard the notice I thought about when John Lennon was shot by a fan.

People commenting at youtube videos said that it was really funny how Noel was tacled down., but I don't think its funny at all. Fuck you who laugh at Noel Gallagher.

P.S: Liam seemed a bit scared

W/E... to all the people who seem to now have a problem with me.

I love the guy, more that you no doubt. I think the Galligar brothers are some of the funniest people in the music industry.

This is just another story to add to the hilarious autobiography Noel will write one day.

And I dunno, knowing Noel I could see him finding something of this nature funny if it wasn't him, bearing in mind Oasis advocated violence and vandalism to the record label if they wouldn't let them perform (after they crashed another bands audition) back in their pre tabloid days.

Now this is the last time im going to recipricate a reply to any personal comments about me so writing them down here is only going to be wasting your time.

"Someone, who can only be described as a “Canadian” was able to get onstage, somehow managed to evade our crack security team (Trotters Independent Security Service) and assaulted my mid-riff."
