How can you notice if it's audio only

I've noticed that Chris uses his earrings for TV interviews and concerts and take em off for audio only/radio interviews.. has anyone noticed the same?

I think you are exactly right. I don't wear my earrings in the studio either for the same reason. Headphones can be very painful on them.
