Ohh you have a "time is on your side" tattoo! Where is it, or is best left unsaid lol?

How do you people find these threads that have been buried for years? :laugh3:

Seriously though. Amsterdam is my favorite Coldplay song. It's such a gorgeous piano line and then at the end when it just opens up and everyone starts rocking out...man. Doesn't get any better than that.

Easily one of my favorite songs of all time.

Amsterdam is the best song that Coldplay have written...

Whenever I listen to this song, if I've had a bad day, or whatever, it makes me happy, I get a physical warm feeling all over my body, a feeling of relief...

This is the song that will be played at my funeral.

I love the lyrics, they're so beautiful, and Chris' voice is at its most emotive, and his piano most harmonic, in this song...

Thank god for bands like Coldplay, writing songs like Amsterdam, otherwise we'd all be brainless morons listening to mainstream junk...

hahahahahaha... it's on my lower back... so no secret places there!!!

a long long time ago i posted a pic of it here at the board... but it will be too hard to dig it up...

I'll start looking now then :P

I like the weird noises at the start of Amsterdam. It sounds a bit like the breathing equipment that an underwater diver uses.

i like that too!!!!

it brings a feeling that i'm alone listening it... like... in some different place.

in my own Amsterdam world...

Yeah Amsterdam is one of those songs that just hits you in all the right places. When I first heard it I got chills - I still do. You can really see it, one of Chris's most potent lyrics.

I'm really starting to appreciate this song. Maybe Politik, Warning Sign and the singles didn't let me realize this is such a great song.

I can play Amsterdam on piano.

Challenging but super fun once you get it down:D

Amsterdam is one of my favorite songs on the AROBTTH. I play it all the time on the piano!

last post in this topic was in 2008, but i have a question about this song and couldn't find another thread about it, so i'll just ask it here:D

Does anyone know why they don't play this song Live very often? (Especially these days)..? It there a specific reason or is it just an old song?

It's a old song, they've played it in the A Rush Of Blood Tour and a very few times in the tours after AROBTTH.

Yeah, they play also old songs in the festival tour last year, but they had to choose wich song fits good in the setlist and the boys thought that it didn't fit in the setlist. That's the reason why they don't play it ;)

There is actually an image of the planned setlist for Glastonbury 2011 (written back in 2010) included in the MX tour program. It shows that they were planning on playing Amsterdam as well as a few other surprises. You can see the image in this thread, with Amsterdam being just underneath Trouble. I still can't stop thinking what an awesome setlist that would have been :bomb:

Amsterdam has aged like a fine wine. With every day, month and year that passes the song just seems to get better and better. Arguably their finest piece of work.

Politik and Amsterdam have vaguely similar structures, which I really like about them as the opening and closing tracks of AROBTTH. Indeed though...Amsterdam is one of Coldplay's greatest songs.

^That Glasto setlist looks fucking mega. :( Shame they just went with the festival setlist as it was. Fingers crossed for this tour. If they can bring back Daylight and What If...

I didn't realise this thread started back in 2003. Wow, that's old. But even today, after 5 albums, Amsterdam has got to be in my top 3 Coldplay songs. I adore it. Politik being number 1, Amsterdam second and the live version of Life is For Living at number 3.

For the longest time, I thought the end was saying "Say what you mean, but it won't change a sin." I was sad that when I found out it wasn't, but this song remains one of my favorites. :) I much prefer it to Politik.

Maybe I am the only human on Earth that doesn't go crazy after Amsterdam. It's a good song, but I've never been awed and amazed by it to death. Matter of tatste perhaps.

So who actually sings the "oooo" in the background at about 2:42?

Is it Jonny, Guy & Will? I still think it's the most chilling and beautiful part of the song, especially as it goes on to sing the chorus.

Anyone have any idea?

It sounds to me like all four of them singing at once. During the chorus I can definitely make out Jonny's deeper voice too.

"Amsterdam" is definitely an underrated song. It's my all-time favorite song!

One of Coldplay's best songs ever. The emotion in that song is unbelievable.
