is it just me or does the "unfold" that everyone hears sound like "unfove", which i know isn't even a word.

i just swear i hear a "fff" sound in there. it sounds like unfold until that 'fff'. unless my hearing is awful. haha.

that's the only line i'm hung up on.

i'm sticking to "my love's like ____ that _____"

here it is with the new unfold part....

Was a long and dark December

From the rooftops I remember

There was snow

White snow

Clearly I remember

From the windows they were watching

While we froze down below

When the future's architectured

By a carnival of idiots on show

You'd better lie low

If you love me

Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December

When the banks became cathedrals

And the fog

Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles

Hollowed out to fit their rifles

And the cross was held aloft

Bury me in honor

When I’m dead and hit the ground

My love is opposed when unfold

If you love me

Won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier

With the captain of some sinking ship

With snow, far below

If you love me

Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to Violet Hill

There we sat in snow

All that time she was silent still

So if you love me

Won't you let me know?

If you love me,

Won't you let me know?

These are brilliant lyrics. Who thinks they know the meaning behind the song?

I've been trying over and over again and am at the brink of tears.... can someone pleez help?!

I went to coldplay.com to get the download but after i typed in all the relevant info am still not get the instructions on how to download it!!!!!

I need Violet Hill!!!!!!!

wow. you guys have been working hard on the lyrics! Thanks!

Just registered to correct one line.. after

Bury me in honor

When I’m dead and hit the ground..

The following line is "My love is opposed when unfold".

Checked plenty of times..

Hope you correct it

are you sure? I listened to it in half speed over and over and it doesn't seem to fit.

and to me it sounds sorta like he's saying armor, not honor. unless he's just saying honor sort of sloppily. again I listened to it in half speed numerous times...

I'm hearing this:

I don't want to be a soldier

With the captain of some sinking ship

Which is down, far below

Does anyone else hear this? I don't think "With snow" makes sense in that context anyway.

And yeah, I'm fully open to the idea that he's saying "armour", and not "honour". Both would fit anyway.

Yeah maybe, is hard to get it because "sinking ship" is sort of squeezed in so that line is rushed slightly.

i just had yet another listen, and i don't think the line is "with snow" because it doesn't fit at all, but i can't say i think it sounds like "which is down," even though i wish it did. i like it that way!

and it sounds like "armor," i must say, but yet again i like "honor" better.

ok, and i really don't think the line is:

When I'm dead and hit the ground

A love back home

Unfolds

i think the bit in bold MUST be different, but i don't know how.

might i once again express my love for the political vibe in these lyrics? I LOVE THE POLITICAL VIBE IN THESE LYRICS.

:P

Sounds like he's saying 'armour' to me too, and it fits, although I like th line 'lay me down with honour'. MAybe I'll use it,lol.

Yeah I was thinking "with snow" made no sense, but it doesnt' sound like anything else! :(

and yeah a love back home is wrong. I think something like:

"my love's last poem that unfolds"

"a love wrapped poem that unfolds"

all I know that "love" and "unfold" is in there somewhere...

I don't want be a soldier

With the captain of a sinking ship

Would stow, far below

Maybe...

I haven't read all of this thread so if someone has said it already i apologize, but that line comes from Bucket for a Crown!

"I don't want to be a soldier

With the captain of some sinking ship

With snow, far below"

I don't think so...SamH's version is a lot closer. I think it's this, which makes a lot more sense:

"I don't want to be a soldier

Who the captain of some sinking ship

Would stow, far below"

I still can't get the line with "Unfolds" in it, though...oddly it sounds more like "Unfurled" to me.

"[but/Our] love's a [something] that unfurled"?

"I don't want to be a soldier

With the captain of some sinking ship

With snow, far below"

That's exactly it!!

I don't want to be a soldier

Who the captain of some sinking ship

Would stow, far below

FTW!

Hehe, this is fun. Seems like the puzzle is almost solved.

I now think I hear "pulled" or "appalled" in the much discussed line "bury me ...".

I now think I hear "pulled" or "appalled" in the much discussed line "bury me ...".

...I think you're right! Something like this? It sounds about right and it even makes sense, sort of:

"But loves are pulled, and unfurled"?

I have no idea what I was epecting, but these lyrics aren't what I expected at all, they're just incredible. The images I'm getting in my head from them, stunning. Prospket commented on his lyrcis a while back, and I'm seeing what he meant now. I really can't wait to see what else Chris has come up with.

I think you're pretty close there. An I've been hearing "that" before "unfold", too.

I reckon the full sentence is something like:

"and love's like poems, that unfold"

so is this what we have so far?

was a long and dark december

bury me in armor

when i'm dead and hit the ground

a love wrapped poem unfolds (highly debatable!)

if you love me

won't you let me know?

I don't want to be a soldier

who the captain of some sinking ship

with stow, far below

so if you love me

why'd you let me go?

I'm really struggling to hear the "m" if it's "poem(s)". Sounds like a "l" to me.

guyy: My mother tongue is not English, so I'm not 100% sure if it makes sense. But it sounds very close to me!

Gotta go to bed. Maybe the mystery is solved when I log back on tomorrow? :)

Yeah it sounds a bit like an "L" to me as well... but a pole that unfolds? a pull that unfolds? a pull that unfurls?

:/
