Magnus
The line ''and the fog became God'' is the most blurry one. I'd say it sounds more like ''and the fuss became gone'', maybe that makes a bit more sence. I mean, that definitely isn't a ''g'' when he says ''fog''(that is, he doesn't say fog, heh). vivacoldplay
Ok, thanks to alyssa, jc90, Silverspira, lumberjack2 and many others here they are: Was a long and dark December From the rooftops i remember There was snow White snow Clearly i remember From the windows they were watching While we froze down below When the future's architectured By a carnival of idiots on show You'd better lie low If you love me Won't you let me know? Was a long and dark December When the banks became cathedrals And the fog Became God Priests clutched onto bibles Hollowed out to fit their rifles And the cross was held aloft Bury me in honor When i'm dead and hit the ground A love back home unfolds If you love me Won't you let me know? I don't want to be a soldier With the captain of some sinking ship With snow, far below So if you love me Why'd you let me go? I took my love down to violet hill There we sat in snow All that time she was silent still So if you love me Won't you let me know? If you love me, Won't you let me know? Thanks. walewein
In the Jimmy Kimmel version of Violet Hill, Chris Martin clearly sings "and the fox became God". The video is here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45613
Hotplay007
^ but that still makes absolutely no sense. the fox? did he say armor or honor? I think he said armor.

guyy
In the Jimmy Kimmel version of Violet Hill, Chris Martin clearly sings "and the fox became God". The video is here: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45613 He does, which was really weird because that makes no sense at all...unlike "and the fog became God". And it doesn't sound like "fox" at all in the studio version... It also has a good clue to the mystery line after "When I'm dead and hit the ground": at least to me, the last bit very clearly sounds like "that unfroze." Anyone think they know what the rest is? bluexylophone
someone's just gonna have to ask Chris for the lyric to that one line. i don't get it haha.
craigwdasc
well, however heard "fox" in the live version instead of "fog"is apparently correct according to the lyrics included in the japan edition of the album
Finnie
And so the mystery goes on. That'd be a bit strange if it really were "fox"... And I could've sworn it was "bury me in honor", but of course I could be wrong.
Uchiha_Shadow
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_fox#In_human_imagination "Some historians argue that the fox came to symbolise the survival strategies of European peasantry from the Medieval period to the French Revolution. Peasants admired guile and wit needed to out manoeuvre the powers of aristocracy, state and church, just as they saw the fox use these same qualities to raid their livestock under cover of darkness." Magnus
A question from the rolling stone interview: ''On the first single, "Violet Hill," you sing about a fox becoming a god and a "carnival of idiots on show." Was the song inspired by Fox News? No one's got that before, no one in the band, no one. The first line in that song is the first line of any song we ever wrote. '' So, it's definitely ''fox'' then. Blackjack612
According to Rolling Stone's interview with Martin, both confirmed it was "fox" and was named after the news network. I never would have guessed but it makes sense now. Martin saw Bill O'Reilly on TV and some people think O'Reilly thinks he's god. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/21185368/page/2 And people say Coldplay doesn't get political in their songs. Thanks for that! :D And Im surprised I didn't know that since I'm sort of crazy over the French Revolution and all.. Hurrah, the fox has been found! I mean, confirmed. pdoubleu
Hello - just been trying to learn this song on guitar - amazing how wrong some of the online lyrics sites are. There is definately an "s" sound at the end of the word fog. You can hear it on the album version and (more clearly) at the live bbc event on iplayer. So its either "fogs" or as I first thought "Fox" Both work lyrically for me. Unless its frogs! (A Joke - :) ) Also I think it's...armour not honour. And...My Love's opposed but unfolds pdoubleu
Magnus
What about that other part of lyrics that wasn't clear? ''My song's like poems, that unfold'' Is that correct?
