June 2, 200818 yr they needed to make it louder(not chris voice) and move around more.......the bands crew made them sound like that
June 2, 200818 yr i thought they were good! chris' voice seemed fine to me. but that confetti that stuck to his head made me laugh *hehehe*. and then at the end a confetti piece went inside his mouth? or at least it looked like he spit something out. aww stupid confetti ...:D anyway, i just felt that maybe they didn't fit in with the show. there were all these crazy silly things going on and the naked guy with a teddy bear etc... maybe chris should've walked out in his underwear? LOL J/K! but Johnny Depp won for best villain! i didn't think he was there!! johnny depp and coldplay on the same show! I'm happy! :)

June 2, 200818 yr lets just blame it on the fires at universal studios, maybe chris had some embers stuck in his throat

June 2, 200818 yr Lowa haha Your post made me think of this : "I learned something while on the road. State Shapes: The easier it is draw, the harder it is to live in them. So if you live in a regular polygon, then get the hell out! You gotta move to a squiggly area.Culture is attracted to squiggles. " Demetri Martin HAHAHA!!:laugh3: Yes, why is that?? Is it the flatness? Lack of natural boundaries that otherwise make you feel like you're really "somewhere"? Perhaps the confluence of some basic realities in those strait-lined states - they're newer, and were settled mainly for agricultural purpose, hence farmers, who naturally gravitate towards music they can relate to, cows milk well to, and with more traditional roots. Roads are laid out on a grid, and you can see pretty much everywhere from anywhere- this creates not only an optical illusion of familiarity regardless of your location, but a sense of infinite plain-ness of the world. Too much excitement is not encouraged, as it's a long dull drive no matter which way you go, and you need music that's not going to get you too riled us, since calmness is needed to go across these vast expanses before you reach the other town or field down the line. And then there's my pet theory. Time travel really is possible - the further from any cultural center you go, the further back in time you go! This can be comforting in some ways, as you can always retreat into the past whenever you like, but then there's a lot of stale bread along that route. So, bring fresh bread, a towel, and some music along - and remember, Iowa is only one letter away from AWOL when spelled backwards!
June 2, 200818 yr anyway, i just felt that maybe they didn't fit in with the show. there were all these crazy silly things going on and the naked guy with a teddy bear etc... maybe chris should've walked out in his underwear? LOL J/K!) Totally agree. That's what I was talking about earlier. Those people didn't come to see Coldplay, they came for pussy cats and Mike Myers and MTV trash. Most of them were probably paid to sit there. I would be terrified if I had to play my music in front of a crowd like that. AND on such a small stage. AND playing that song for the first time live. Some people around here think its a bullshit excuse that they haven't played for a long time, but what can you expect? Fucking Chris to sprout wings and literally sing to the rafters? They're only human. I was watching Coldplay perform live tonight and that's all I could ask for. Chris was a little out of breath, the mix sucked, the crowd was horrendous, and it was MTV. Fuck MTV. It was Coldplay. I had the TV at full volume and I was singing along at the top of my lungs in the middle of my living room dancing around in my underwear. So it really doesn't matter how good just this ONE performance is. Its fucking Coldplay people. We know how they are live, so there's nothing to worry about. Who cares if it wasn't their best. We've seen them at their best and we know we're all going to get a hell of a show when we see them for real this summer/fall... Everything's not lost ;)
June 2, 200818 yr They were nervous, just like any other band performing a song live for the first time. I wouldn't be too worried. They'll work out some of the kinks and it will sound much better the next time they play it.
June 2, 200818 yr when they did speed of sound last time they did MTV awards shows, it was crap. it's been a while since they had some practice. I feel like VH might have been a better performance. And it's a hard tune to sing at a belting pitch. That said, love the look, love the fact that they played that tune even though it clearly didn't win the crowd over. Will kicked ass. PS is the vid screen in the background a picture of the four of them as a string quartet? if so well done sirs, crafty crafty.

June 2, 200818 yr up on youtube already. haha. good performance. makes me really REALLY hope i win a ticket to that free show.
June 2, 200818 yr They were totally awkward there. Bad, bad billing on their management's part. The crowd was totally not into it because they either wanted 'Talk' or Jack Black to walk out in a panda suite and tell them to go see another shitty movie. Plus, Chris sounded really nervous. I think the combination of it being their first performance in a few years topped with new material combined with huge stars and the fact that they totally didn't belong there was a huge contributing factor to the quality of his voice. Poor guys. :(
June 2, 200818 yr i've posted a bit of a summary to all the reactions to this performance on my blog site http://whispersofascientist.blogspot.com/
June 2, 200818 yr Am I the only one who seriously doubts they were actually singing this part ? Short answer: no :P I think they had A LOT of backing track going on... obviously the strings and effects and maybe even some vocals. If not then their vocals were amazingly spot on and I am even more in awe :p Probably singing over a backing track to make it sound fuller and more on pitch. I'm really looking forward to seeing Violet Hill live now, as I think that live it will be much more interesting to watch and hear the actual band members more than the backing tracks.
June 2, 200818 yr Am I the only one who seriously doubts they were actually singing this part ? I think they are either singing over the recorded vocals, or only Chris' mic is up. Because the recorded vocals are definitely there. During the final "ooo" harmonies, we know Jonny has the low part. But he is away from the mic for one portion of that part, and you still hear the low harmony. It was Coldplay. I had the TV at full volume and I was singing along at the top of my lungs in the middle of my living room dancing around in my underwear. June 2, 200818 yr Thanks Joely, i might not be completely deaf after all. It sounds like 50 ppl are singing the backing vocals and Johnny and Guy don't seem to be singing the oh oh oh all the time. Will might have a powerful voice but still...
June 2, 200818 yr Yeah, there was quite a bit of backing tracks going on there! Oh well, I don't mind.
June 2, 200818 yr Oh for cryin' out loud you guys. THAT was bad?! I was dancing along with it! I loved it! Though, I gotta add the fact that the only Coldplay concerts I've seen is on Youtube. Maybe that's it? Maybe my ignorance is bliss? Bliss is good. And so is Coldplay.

June 2, 200818 yr Sweet! Catch any of that on video?:wink3: . Hahaa unfortunately no. But I'll keep that in mind next time Coldplay is on TV and I realize I'm only in my briefs
