March 29, 201214 yr Gomez could be anyone, he's the new Luca Toni. He's not necessarily terrible but he certainly is not a gifted footballer, he's surrounded by players who are great at delivering, when you have Ribery, Muller, Robben etc. around you it's a hell of a lot easier. Most of his goals are tap ins, and although he does put some half chances away nicely its because he's full of confidence. He'd do worse then Carroll at Liverpool, and that's saying something. I think Carroll has done very well for Liverpool since January. In fact he's the only player not worth criticising for Liverpool since we've plunged downwards in the form ranks since then. The stats are something like in the last 9 games he's started Liverpool have won something like 6 or 7 and drawn 2 or 3. So goodness knows why Kenny won't start him. Just a shame that when he gets a good break of form, everyone else at the club completely drop the ball. We'd take anything though right now like Mario Gomez to just score some bloody goals. John Aldridge made a good point that our defending has been appalling of late. Teams are not creating much chances against us but the trend of late has been, if you are creating chances against Liverpool then you will almost certainly score.

Sorry but it had to be said, his goalscoring record is Heskey bad, and to be honest, from when I've watched Liverpool this season I think he hasn't been awful or anything, but his performances aren't good enough to warrant scoring no goals as their striker. You look at Dirk Kuyt, a perfect example of someone whos scoring record is near to awful, but he makes up for it with constant work rate and getting involved, and this is why he's forgiven for not getting a goal every other game (For the record I completely disagree that Kuyt should be a valued player, but this appears to be how fans and the managers have felt about him). With Andy though, hey may give 100%, he may show signs of trying to make chances for himself, but there comes a point where you can't keep relying on someone who's not delivering. I think if he's still having a torrid time (I think its standing at 1 goal for every 6 games he plays in- including substitutions to be fair) by next Christmas, he'll be out, and probably for in excess of 20million less then what you paid for him. In fact the huge loss is probably the only reason for needing to keep him, it's probably not financially viable to approve of it.

I believe Carroll is the same player we signed from Newcastle but it doesnt seem like it because of the way we play. Newcastle accomodated his style perfectly whereas we play differently so it makes Carroll look bad. He doesnt get many chances to score but he does work hard. As for Kuyt, I think he is one of our most valuable players. He works hard, is fully committed, great professional, scores important goals and is just an all round nice guy. PS: Schalke 4-2 Bilbao was a great game. I dont know how Bilbao won as Schalke seemed to dominate the game but Bilbao weren't undeserving. They were clinical. Llorente was brilliant. Iker Muinain (not sure if I spelt it right!) is a fantastic player. He's only 19 but he scored tonight and against Utd. Fast, clever and stylish. Just the kind of player we need.
March 29, 201214 yr Yeah I've always said that our system was perfect for Carroll, not proud to admit this but in the Championship days/start of last season we were about the long ball, and that was perfect for him. Now we focus on a tight passing game, it's a lot nicer to watch, and I don't even think Carroll could play for us these days (Don't get me wrong we'd bite your hand off to get him back though haha, even if we do have 2 briliant strikers at the moment). Ah nice someone else saw the Schalke match, I know you meant Schalke 2-4 Bilbao if anyones a bit confused reading that. What about Raul though?! He just doesnt stop. His half volley was controlled brilliantly. He's still a prick though, fuck knows what he was complaining about after he scored the 1st, but you could tell the guy he was whining to is just used to his crap, he just turned away. Bilbao didn't play well at all, but as you say, they made their chances count. Feel a bit sorry for Schalke though, huge task now in the 2nd leg.

March 30, 201214 yr Carroll would have been better staying at Newcastle fighting for his people at his club, he doesn't seem to have the same fire in him at Liverpool. I was delighted when we signed him and still have faith in him though. Who could have foreseen Newcastle's rise and Liverpool's stuttering a year ago?

March 31, 201214 yr It's almost strange to say....but are you a better side without Carroll? It is strange as we were all devastated when he left, but now, he'd be a 3rd striker. If you mean that the departure of Carroll means we've started playing more attractive football which has more of a direction and therefore consistent performances, instead of gambling by lobbing the ball up to Andy, yes in that way, probably. We are definitely a better team now that goes without saying, and we probably wouldn't have made purchases such as Cabaye and Cisse (Already looking like a great buy) without the sale of Carroll.
