Do Southampton have a sell on clause? Other wise really don't give a shit.

A sell on clause for Gareth Bale? Apparently they got rid of the sell on clause back in 2008 in return for £3m to help with their financial difficulties at the time. To make it worse the sell on clause was allegedly 25% of any transfer fee received by Tottenham.

Southampton Entitled to Just £1.06m Should Gareth Bale Join Real Madrid

Southampton could be left rueing the decision to remove a sell on clause from the agreement to sell Gareth Bale to Tottenham Hotspur, should the Wales international join Real Madrid for £85m.

Saints had originally inserted a sell-on clause between 15% and 25% in the agreement to sell Bale to Spurs in 2007 for £5m, which was set to rise to £10m including add-ons.

But with the south coast club on the brink of financial ruin in 2008 - prior to going into administration the following year - IBTimes UK understands former chairman Rupert Lowe wrote off the clause instead accepting a settlement payment of between £1.5 and £3m plus Tottenham youth goalkeeper Tommy Forecast.

Madrid are understood to have submitted an offer worth £85m for Bale meaning Southampton have potentially missed out on a windfall of as much as £21.25m. Forecast was released this summer after loan spells at Thurrock and Bromley.

However, Fifa rules state that clubs are entitled to a solidarity contribution fee for every year the player was registered with them between his 12th and 23rd birthday. Bale signed with Southampton at 15 years old and departed for White Hart Lane just before he turned 18.

Therefore, Southampton are entitled to in the region of 1.25% of Bale's future sell on fees, meaning an £85m move to the Spanish capital would see them recoup £1.06m from the deal.

Bale became the second youngster player to ever play for Southampton when he made his debut in 2006 and has grown into one of the most feared players in world football.

Since being brought out of administration in 2009 after being purchased by the Liebherr family, Southampton won promotion back to the Premier League and finished 14th in their first campaign back in the top flight for seven years last season.

Willian: Chelsea set to sign Tottenham target for £30m

Chelsea have agreed a £30m deal to sign attacking midfielder Willian from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, subject to a work permit hearing. The 25-year-old Brazilian was close to joining Tottenham after having a medical on Wednesday. But it is understood Chelsea made their move at around 18:00 BST on Thursday, with a fee and personal terms agreed within 24 hours. Willian will have a medical before his work permit hearing next week.

its not worth that much....

It's Madrid, they have money to burn.

Afterall they don't pay taxes or anything to the Spanish governement and get handouts in the form of reduced prices for land

So there will only be one welsh team in the Europa League Group-Stages ;)

Gareth Bale: Real Madrid give Spurs two bid options for winger

Gareth Bale: Real Madrid give Spurs two bid options for winger

Real Madrid have made two different offers for Wales winger Gareth Bale and are waiting to see if Tottenham Hotspur will accept either one.

The first offer is €100m (£86m) with structured payments over three to four years, which would surpass the world record fee Real paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo (£80m). The other is an up-front, one-off payment which will be closer to £70m. A player could also be thrown in as a makeweight in the second deal.

And if that happened it would also make that deal more valuable than the one Real paid United for Portugal winger Ronaldo in 2009. Wales international Bale, 24, is determined to join the Spanish club, who have been in advanced talks with Spurs for several weeks.

If there is no announcement on Saturday it is unlikely there will be one until Tuesday because of the away match Real are playing on Monday night against Granada in the Spanish top flight, La Liga. The plan remains to unveil Bale in the middle of next week, but this now depends on Spurs.

Bale, who joined Spurs in a £10m deal from Southampton in 2007, was named as the player of the year by both the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers last season after scoring 26 goals for the White Hart Lane side.

Madrid have already spent in excess of £50m this summer, bringing in Spanish midfielders Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad and Malaga's Isco for £34m and £23m respectively.

hate Arsenal more than United these days..

You, my friend, are a complete enigma. I do wonder.

Match I'm looking at closely this afternoon is Celtic v Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Thistle have won 3 from 3 so far and are 2-1 up at Parkhead as things stand!

Goal: Aston Villa 0-1 Liverpool (Sturridge, 21)

Brilliant individual goal

Was a wonderful effort from Sturridge and well worked by Enrique and Coutinho (nice dummy). About as functional a win you'll ever see from Liverpool under Rodgers. So often the past couple of seasons these sort of hard and tightly fought games would end with Liverpool conceding for a draw or a loss. Good to see they kept their nerve today. Rodgers reverted his side so that they sat very deep and shut up shop after the goal trying to cut off the threat of Benteke and Agbonlahor on the counter attack. Was a very risky strategy and one where if Villa did score then he would look like an idiot. But they didn't and I think Rodgers should be applauded for it. It wasn't pretty (the match was incredibly average to say the least) but it's important that you win ugly! That said the team's control of the match in possession for the first 35 minutes was excellent.

Liverpool's last 15 competitive matches have been W10, D4, L1 keeping 9 clean sheets in the process. Good progress and some really good work being made by Rodgers! Don't know what others think of him outside Liverpool but I for one have big hopes and expectations for Liverpool while he is managing us.

As for Villa, they have a really energetic and vibrant young side under Lambert. They've done well and while before the start of the season they may have snatched your hand off with 3 points from matches against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, in the context of things they may feel disappointed not to have more especially from Wednesday night. Very competitive side and they look a much better outfit now.

Cardiff 3-2 Man City

Cardiff City produced a stunning win over 2011-12 champions Manchester City to claim their first victory in the Premier League.

After falling behind to Edin Dzeko's powerful 52nd-minute opener, Aron Gunnarsson equalised after Joe Hart blocked Fraizer Campbell's shot.

Former Manchester United youngster Campbell headed home twice in eight minutes to put the home side in charge.

Alvaro Negredo set up a grandstand finish, but Malky Mackay's men held on.
