June 8, 200818 yr thats funny Well, think about it. 'Spies', 'Sparks', 'Shiver', and 'Everything's Not Lost' have some of his best bass lines. However, you also have to give it up to Guy since he's the utility man. He does more than just bass. I voted for Will though. Jonny certainly shines, but you can still tell it's Jonny (Although there's nothing wrong with that. Despite many people downplaying his talent, he does have a distinctive style, that's for certain), but Will's contributions are virtually unrecognizable.

Go back and really listen to the bass on the other 2 albums...esp. X&Y. Even though I like AROBTTH better, there' all kinds of lovely, melodic bass work on X&Y. It's just a little harder to hear buried under all those strings,lol. (I'm not trying to win an argument...just giving you an excuse to listen to more Coldplay,:D) But I do like his work on Parachutes the best, even though every albom's amazing. I need to listen to VLV more to form a real musical opinion on Guy's work here...and I'm saving all bu Cemeteries for now.:)

June 8, 200818 yr maybe, IMO, the true star will really be Phil, the 5th member, for pulling these guys together enough to sit down and create with a new vision, and a new sense of togetherness and comraderie(<<need spellchecker help here) I think they are all equally shining a bit better this go around.:kiss:

I still want to really get into the album before I make any kind of musical judgment call on it, but I see your point now.

June 10, 200818 yr Well it IS a collaborative work, so they're all stars really, but Will shines in this one... X&Y made the Chris-is-the-only-important-part-of-Coldplay impression with it's theme "biggity big big". I think that was kinda more Guy's part to shine or Jonny's. As for AROBTTH, I'm of a different opinion - it's Chris' piano skills! They dominate quite a few of the songs. Also Jonny plays a big role here. Parachutes... Chris and his voice breaking onto the scene, deffs.

June 13, 200818 yr For me it was a tie between Will & Guy - this album belongs to the rhythm section and it's about time they got some recognition. In the end I voted for Guy - I'm not a bass player so I can't make any fancy arguments in his defence, but I think some of the criticism of him was totally unnecessary.
