oh chris! i hope he is feeling alright! his silly joke was not for this show.

kudos for will!

oh my gosh, i've always known chris was a little more sensitive than the average guy, but he needs to grow a pair...the reaction is not to walk out like he's about to go cry in the corner, but if it's that bad he could've just told the interviewer off and then been done with it. which is prbly why will stayed because he didn't see a problem with the questions and knew that it would look bad for coldplay to just get up and walk out during an interview. chris has gotta be able to handle criticism...for the first time i'm a little embarassed by his actions. but i understand he's under a lot of pressure, so i'll cut him some slack. but what's the deal with not showing up at all for radio 2? if they couldn't make it to all of them then why did they schedule all of these interviews. coldplay's gonna come out of this not looking too good...

good point.....ur right

Most people in the US will never hear of this though. I really do think this is much ado about nothing. But yes, Chris should grow a pair a bit sometimes I agree.

but what exactly did the guy say that upset chris

The interviewer was boring anyway :laugh3:

I knew from the start it will not going to be any good...

i mean, the show that was before the interview? WTF?

(sorry, not personal :wink3:)

but what's the deal with not showing up at all for radio 2? if they couldn't make it to all of them then why did they schedule all of these interviews. .

they didn't schedule it, it was probably their manager. but yes, i get your point they could say no from the beginning

that was hard to listen to...

i think both the interviewer and chris are wrong in the situation. the interviewer obviously didn't lsiten to the labum very well and just took things he heard from other people and tried to make chris say certain things. he wasnt letting chris speak at all, his questions were so one sided and it was like he was answering them for himself.

on the other hand, chris didn't have to take it that personally. he did overreact a little bit i think but i guess that's just how chris. hes very passionate about the things he writes, which makes his music so wonderful to begin with. i think he could've handled it better, but i guess when youre under that kind of pressure you don't have time to think things through before reacting.

gotta give kudos to Will though, he really pulled through for chris. he was able to stay calm and be a little more explanitory (lol is that a word? you know what i mean) to the interviewer

The interviewer was simply asking Chris to clarify his intentions for the album and its artistic direction/choices...what the hell is all the fuss about???

Sure he may have made some inaccurate interpretations of what the album is about to the band...but they were quickly rectified. I don't see what was so one-sided about asking for some specificity.

So the backlash starts on day 1 of the new album - a new record!

Just turned on the TV at the end of a bit about Coldplay on GMTV - did anyone catch it?

Some Welsh guy was talking to Penny Smith about them in a rather light-hearted fashion (probably laughing at them)

Do we know yet if they showed up for Jonathan Ross?

i've sed this somewhere else on this thread but what you need to remeber is that its pre recorded...things may have been cut out...so we may only know a bit of what actually happened

I doubt he will be the first rock star to walk out of an interview it happens all the time no big deal

Coldplay's Chris Martin Storms Out Of Radio Interview

Coldplaynews2_1__11.jpg

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin stormed out of a radio interview last night (June 12th) after he was asked about the bands new album 'Viva La Vida'.

Martin was being questioned on Radio 4's Front Row alongside bandmate Will Champion when presenter John Wilson asked him to discuss the album's lyrics.

"Did you start with the song Viva La Vida and the idea within that song of the deposed dictator looking back at his life?" Wilson asked.

To which Martin replied: "I'm not enjoying this. Can I have two minutes?"

When asked by Wilson if he was feeling the pressure, Martin said: “I just don't like talking about things.”

Champion was forced top pick up the interview and when Martin finally returned he remained reluctant to talk about the album.

As previously reported, 'Viva La Vida' is expected top top the album charts on Sunday after pre-order sales of the album were being placed at a rate of one copy per minute with some retailers.

That was probably one of the most awkward things I've ever listened to.

I think Chris picked up on the vibe of the interviewer and didn't like it... I don't think I did, either. Props to Will for staying and all, but gee, Chris really seems to be starting to turn... I don't know. Into a bit of a diva, perhaps? He's having more of those episodes where he'll get really flustered, flustered turns into annoyed at being flustered, and then he'll go off for a breather so he doesn't lose his temper.

He's probably even more sensitive than usual because of his album-release nerves - the interviewer was certainly a prick for the sexist comment, which was totally out of line, as well as his attitude overall... eek.

Coldplay star abandons interview

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has walked out of a BBC interview while promoting the band's new album.

Several minutes into the pre-recorded interview for Radio 4 arts show Front Row, the 31-year-old asked to leave the studio as he was not enjoying himself.

The band's drummer, Will Champion, was left to answer questions from presenter John Wilson until Martin returned for one final question.

Coldplay's new album, Viva La Vida, was released on 12 June.

'Journalistically twisting'

Martin appeared uncomfortable with the interview from the outset.

When asked about a speech he made at a music awards ceremony in 2005 where he said the band would be away "for a very long time", Martin said: "I always say stupid things and I think Radio 4 is the place that will most remind me of that."

Presenter Wilson carried on questioning whether the new album - full title, Viva La Vida Or Death To All His Friends - was a morbid reflection of the band's lyrical obsession with death.

"I wouldn't agree with you there at all, no," said Martin.

"I'd say you're journalistically twisting me into saying something I don't really mean."

A few minutes later, Martin said he was "not really enjoying this" and that he did not really like "having to talk about things".

Champion answered the remaining questions before the Coldplay frontman returned to answer a final question with the response: "Um....yes...yes, yes....exactly..."

Sales figures released by the Official Charts Company confirm Viva La Vida sold 125,000 copies across the country in its first day on sale on Thursday.

It is already outselling the top five biggest selling albums and looks certain to be number one in this Sunday's album chart.

I hope they're still on Steve Lamacq tonight. :idea2:

They will be. Chris said in that Sun interview that he always feels bad the next day if he's misbehavedin an interview. If he's got anything about him he'll want to get back out there and show the world he's not just some stroppy popstar with a huge attitude problem.

True. :)

I hope they address it though, I hope he tells us what went on.

Can we ask questions to Lamacq? If so, maybe it would be a good idea to e-mail and get him to ask? Or is that a really stupid idea? I just think it's really bad that Chris has been edited to look like some sort of highly strung cock, when there's definitely more to it. People don't react like that for no reason, even being called sexist and obsessed with death probably wouldn't warrant a walkout IMO.

typical british press coverage of the incident today.....'chris martin storms out of interview in a rage'...what a crock of shite.

^huh? did this really happen? How come I am not too surprised that it could have occured?

It did really happen yes, only listen to it if you can handle awkwardness though

Hahaha...I loooooove awkwardness! This is going to be a treat when I get home! :)

 Really? I hate anything that makes me cringe, I have to turn it off cos I'm a wuss :P
