Well it's not really that bad. Just uncomfortable.

And with that I guess I'd better be off to the stuff I'm supposed to be doing right now...

Hmmmm...that WAS ODD...

maybe in another interview we'll find out what went wrong with this one....

How strange!!!!

You have to question the interviewer, going with the negative approach to the songs, meanings, lyrics etc was wrong.

Typical Chris.... the most un-cool, un rock & roll walk out of all time!!! He even explained that he "didn't like it" and ASKED if he could have "a couple of minutes" !!!!!

Don't worry about these people Chris. We love the album, the masses will love the album and you guys clearly love it.... that is all that matters.

just listened to the radio 4 interview and he kinda twisted everything chris was saying

i wanna listen to the radio 2 interview....does anyone know what show it was on??

it didnt happen apparently...they didnt show up :(

:o i wouldnt if i was them...i mean i would have been pissed off....i guess they might do it later

EDIT: wasnt the radio 2 interview before the radio 4 interview?

for Chris he's really stressed already with 4th album and then he's really feeling bad with questions by interviewers.

I have to say, having listened to the Radio 4 interview, I thought that Chris was being a tad argumentative. I never once thought that the interviewer was goading him or twisting anything. Christ just seemed incredibly oversensitive and irritating. It's not like it wouldn't be the first time this has happened. He seems to be making quite a habit of it.

Sorry, but that's what I think.

wow im downloading the interview to hear right now. im quite obviously kind of feeling defensive for the band and chris rather than the interviewer, but i'll have to hear before i make a judgment.

Well I think the interviewer definitely had a negative attitude throughout, but it was a little weird.

Also, we have no idea what Radio 4 cut out..who knows what else was said.

not fine, i know that!

he's not okay clearly!

I see what your saying, Difficult_Kind. Chris is probably just stressed out because their album drops today. :freak: And it must be frustrating that the interviewer seemed to miss the point of the album. It's not as morbid as the title suggests. :dozey:

Well you're right that we don't really know what else was said, but nothing that I heard made me think the interviewer was asking dodgy questions or goading him. They seemed like reasonable questions to me, and Will certainly didn't seem put out.

He did the same during the Observer magazine interview. If he can't deal with these kind of things, then he shouldn't do them. It was hardly a Jeremy Paxman-style grilling!

The interviewer was clearly trying to get Chris to say "we are morbid", it's so obvious. That = bad interviewer with no integrity in my opinion.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the interview at all. Chris just seemed really defensive from the beginning. You could tell it caught Will off-guard as well.

Actually, I thought the questioning was pretty interesting

Oh aye, I'm not defending him wholeheartedly, without question, I just meant we don't know the whole story, probably never will.

In one way I don't think he should have walked out, on the other hand I can see why he did. He made a joke and the interviewer called him sexist, that was a little unnecessary I think, was going well up to that point.

I don't know, it was all very weird. Least he was polite-ish about it.

strange..

but you have to wonder what the BBC cut from the interview.. I think the interviewer kept going on about the morbid thing, and maybe because a lot of CP's critics often wrongly accuse them of being 'depressing' etc, Chris probably got the knives out, so to speak. The whole point of the album is that it's meant to deal with issues that effect us all (good and bad), but in a hopeful kind of way, rather than a negative one.

I dont blame him jeez theyv been making so many apperaences they r guna wear themselves down with that and the biggest tour ever.. lets hope they can soldier on....

if it was such a negatively slanted interview, why didn't Will stand up for Chris/the band when Chris left? I think Chris just took something personally that Will obviously didn't. That doesn't mean the interviewer is "mean" or "has no integrity." He's probably just feeling the pressure of all the interviews and whatnot

This is what happened:

BBC RADIO 4'S RATINGS ARE DROPPING - THE DJ WAS TOLD BY HIS EDITOR TO CAUSE SOME CONTROVERSY AND GET A REACTION OUT OF MARTIN. THIS THEN LEADS TO CONTROVERSY AND AN INTEREST IN THE STATION

It was a cynical calculated stunt. Martin was a lamb to the slaughter.

Oh yeah, and what was the deal with, "Explain your comments at the Brits - why are you back so soon, don't you think you should have taken more time off"???!!! Absolute bulls**t - if I was Chris I'd have been confused to say the least.

I didn't really catch how the joke was sexist towards Frida Khalo? I think Chris was just saying that, in general, a nice pair of "melons" is a nice inspiration haha. Was it the right thing to say? No. But it's not like he said "Frida Khalo had great melons."

I think Chris is pissed off that everybody is looking at this album at one big epic about dying. I think he wants it to be seen as a positive outlook on death, but this guy kept calling it "morbid". Not the interviewers fault, and Chris could have been a little more patient. But how much time did he really have to get the real message of the album out in one short interview slot?

As far as the band defending him, when the interviewer asked "Did I upset him?", what were they supposed to do? "Yes, you pissed him off, no ask me the next question..."

Overall it's an unfortunate moment for the band on such a big day. Chris has changed. I really don't like him when Coldplay is in the spotlight.

On a brighter note it was nice to see Chris marketing the album with Will, as opposed to another Chris-Jonny appearance.

How do we know that Will didn't say something though? That's what I'm saying. All we have is an edited 7 minute interview, and if Chris Martin has walked out on an interviewer isn't that said interviewer going to make sure that he comes across favourably? You know?

We have no idea what really went on, so placing blame is very hard.
