18-June-2008: BBC Gig - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos

Recommended Posts

This is a thread to run side-by-side with the Brixton thread.

I managed to register my interest for 2 tickets, however the reply email I got was that I wasn't guaranteed the tickets and I'd have to wait for confirmation.

I reckon a few thousand at least applied in the hour or so that the ticketing window was opened so not looking to promising for those here who did apply.

Any news yet about this anyone?

I doubt anyone who doesn't work for the BBC will get in. I went on the website at 10.25 and there was no mention of the concert. I kept hitting "refresh" and at about 10.28 the website completely crashed - couldn't get back on to it until over an hour later, by wihch time there was no point trying.

Just another Beeb swizz

I managed to order two 15 minutes after they went online, but even though it was stated on the Coldplaying site that they would be first come, first serve, the BBC website stated instead that they would be allocated at random.

Basically, if you got a confirmation email then you have just as much chance as everyone else of winning, however there are only a handful of tickets available so the odds of winning these are probably the equivilent of getting three numbers coming up on the lottery. Possible, but extremely unlikely.

Good luck to everyone anyway on this... as far as I'm aware they will call you if you have won instead of sending out emails so make sure you're sitting by your phones at all times as they have said on the website that if they can't get in contact with you they'll call another randomally selected entrant instead.

Well that goes to show how useless they are then - I didn't bother trying in the end because it initially said you had to be in the first 250.

And who can stand by their phone all day? Don't they realise people have jobs to go to? We're not all BBC "stars" paid millions of pounds a year for 2 hours work per week.

I can hardly say to my pupils - "You're not allowed your mobile phones on but I am, 'cos I'm waiting for a call from the BBC!"

When I was on the site it said first come first served (and that is their standard procedure at the BBC I think).

Why do you think they'd phone? I'd say the most likely would be that they'll send an email asking you to confirm you want the tickets, and if they don't get a reply they'll use the phone as a last resort. Calling 250 people as opposed to emailing them makes no sense at all in this day and age, but you seem pretty certain so...?

In any case they're not going to give your tickets to someone else just because you happen to miss a phone call.

And three numbers on the lottery? I play one line a week and have had four in the last year. And one lot of four numbers that won me...£35 lol. So stay very hopeful people! :)

the terms of condictions clearly state,

that you are NOT eligible for tickets if you work for the BBC

I'm sure those were the T & C's for that Blue Peter competition that they faked... and all the ones on Radio 1... and I'm sure it's organised by the same department that rigged all those phone votes...

really??

that better not be the case here or I will be MAJORLY pissed off!

I admire your faith, Age Six Racer, and I hope I'm wrong, but I've become very cynical about these things after all of the recent scandals. And just reading the posts on here it sounds as though the Beeb has moved the goalposts several times.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though! :)

thank you! :D I got my application in 4 minutes after half past so I'm just hoping and paraying that I win!

thought now you mention it,

I wouldn't put it past the Beeb to do this!

The only way I'll believe they're innocent is if some people off here, if not myself, get tickets!

From the BBC website, taken from the Coldplay Live at the BBC ticketing page:

"Proof of age and identity will be required. You must be available to come to the event in mid June. Successful applicants will be given the date. Tickets will be allocated randomly."

"If you cannot be contacted the BBC reserves the right to offer the ticket to the person whose name is next drawn at random."

It was initally stated that this would be a first come, first serve ticketing ballot on the Coldplaying.com forum... however, when the tickets eventually went live on the BBC site they had stated that the tickets would be drawn randomally.

Also, I am 99% certain the BBC will call you at this late notice. They don't want empty seats on any of their shows so this will be the only way they can ensure this doesn't happen. For popular BBC shows (like this) they will over ticket for the event, therefore actually getting into the BBC really WILL be a first come, first serve entrance policy, even if you get put on the guestlist...

Remember people, nothing in this world is free... you all have to work for this!

Good luck.

i'm not sure if it's worth it anymore to be honest.

I mean if they over ticket for it, then what's the point?

I'm not travelling 300 miles to london to get told that I'm not allowed in because THEY over ticketed the event.

that's plain rediculous!

Sadly its the way the BBC do this.

I had tickets for a live recording of a BBC show, went down to the studios with tickets in hand after work, only to be told on arrival that the aduience was full.

What a joke, treking all the way into London for nothing.

I applied for the tickets - got through just before 10.40.

If you get a ticket and arrive in decent time you WILL get in. They won't massively over-ticket and some of those who do have tickets won't go along for one reason or another.

You also won't miss out on tickets just because you miss one phone call. I'm betting you will get a message either by phone or email (most likely email) and have to confirm with them within a certain period (e.g. a day),

It's common sense people, DON'T PANIC! :)

Well i spoke to the Beeb at about 10.50 and they said the guaranteed allocation hadn't been used up.... I got the site to work at 10.45 so fingers crossed!!!!

well we know now that it's selected randomly anyway but i doubt very much that there hadn't been 250 applications within 20 minutes lol. People on phones usually know nothing or very little about any internet ticket sales
