This is a bit of a random poll, and may only appeal to 1 in 10 of you...

I'm a lefty and I've always been a bit curious about this. I get it from my Mum, curiously both her parents are right handed. I write with my left, but do a lot of other things with my right hand (holding scissors/knives/rackets), because I was taught by right handers.

How about you guys?

You know me and you have always got along! I'm a lefty too :D

Somehow, I knew you would be!!! :P

:P

according to studies, left handed people tend to be more creative with arts and the like,

whereas right handed people tend to be more academic.

my brothers a righty and he's done some PHD and now travels the world doing some business.

I'm a lefty and hate any work, but love art and writing music and writing screenplays and filming short movies.

So I guess the study could be right.

No they don't, Righies rule

:laugh3: chris martin is left handed  lefties rule ;)

he's actually ambidextrus.

he writes with his left hand and draws with his right,

though it could be the other way round, i'm not sure

would i be classed as ambidextrus as I write with my left hand, use scissors with my right hand and play guitar the right handed way?

I'm not sure what to put. I learned to write right handed, but everything else I can do ambidextrously, or sometimes even just left handed. I guess I'd go with slightly right.

Not the studies I've read. It's true, perception (feelings and senses) is based in the right side of the brain, which controls the left hand, and judgment (logic and verbal skills) is based in the left side of the brain which controls the right hand. But anything I've read said that in spite of the theory that is true, right and left handedness has very little to do with whether you are right- or left-brain dominant.

It sounds like you're both right brain dominant as well as left handed. My dad is left handed and yet he doesn't understand anything that doesn't involve math.

That just doesn't add up.

He's left handed. Seen it with my own eyes.

I write with my right hand, but I'm also one of those freaky ambidextrous types as I throw a ball with my left hand yet play tennis right-handed. I also play soccer and snowboard left-footed/goofy. I'm weird like that.

I'm pretty well right-handed...I can do things with my left, but I don't as a general rule.

Oooh, do you have something to share with us ?

Me is a righty. Nothing special about that bah..

 well, I dunno, what would you like me to share?

I'm right handed but these vacations I'm trying to start writing with my left one. Is a good excersise for your brain...

Right handed :)

I think your true "handed-ness" (yes, I know that'a not really a word) is determined by what hand you write with.

Most lefties probably use their right for some things either because they were taught by right-handers or because of the equipment they're given. I use right-handed scissors but would never call myself ambidextrous because I can't write with my right hand.

Well, I think I'm actually a leftie, because I do alots of stuff with it, but I write with my right hand.

Plus, when I play soccer, I use my left foot.

I'm surprised by how many people have said they write with their right, but use their left for other things

I figured it would only be lefties that adapted when they had to.

it's worth noting that although I'm a lefty, and do most things left related ( I was once told by a doctor that I'm 100% left-sided ) I play the guitar right handed. and I just can't play it left handed.

How does a Doctor tell?

And were you taught guitar by a right-hander by any chance?

I was thought by the chaplin at my comprehensive shcool when I was in year 11, going back about 5 years now, but yeah, he had a right handed guitar, I don't know if he was right handed. more than likely.

and the doctor said it because I did everything left sided, kicked a ball, drew, wrote, I couldn't do ANYTHING with my right side til I was about 14

(not that I looked like I'd had a stroke or anything, I was just bad :laugh3:)

I write with my left hand, but do pretty much everything else with my right hand, because I was taught by right handed people. I still consider myself a true lefty though, 'cos even though I hold a racquet with my right hand, I'm rubbish with it! :laugh3:
