The BRITs 2009 Thread

Featured Replies

I think the Brits is suffering from a bit of Coldplay fatigue - there had to come a time when they didn't win, I just thought it would have been with X & Y

Surprised Duffy did as well, I envisaged a few shocks but didn't think she'd pick up three out of her four

I imagine Coldplay came 2nd in Best Song... I don't really think it's fair that they have a live vote on the night and don't let all the acts perform - it's like two acts got to promote their song and the other three didn't.

Interesting that the first time ITV announced the phone numbers was right after Girls Aloud did that stunning performance in their underwear... and technically Cheryl Cole is an ITV employee.

Coincidence, right..?

As much as I loooove Coldplay, Elbow who won best live act should have won best album. Congrats to them for winning best lvie act, their performance with the BBC orchestra was superb. Duffy is alright, but Elbow's album is just beautiful and should have won hands down. In a way, I'm glad Coldplay didn;t win for VLV. I think Coldplay have lost their original attraction (for me) with Viva La Vida, and tonight has reflected that. Sorry... I just love the Parachutes and AROBTTTH era and X and Y was just alright. Good one Elbow. Have a look at them they are really fab, and were at the Manchester festival with coldplay when Coldplay were signed, they go back a looong way. They are a Bury based band (in Manchester) and are really nice guys.

Brits had a very Welsh theme tonight!

Best group, Not Live act.

But anyway awards mean nothing, Brilliant bands like Radiohead always miss out, but are they not better than the guys who won. Don't think so!

But Viva La Vida, the single, thought it was a shoe-in, Girls aloud I did'nt even consider. Im confused about that one.

Well done to Elbow though. The only act I respect, that won. Atleast it ain't Take That!!!! Also Duffy is good even though I dont listen to her but she is talented.

Yes, I'm baffled by the fact that they won for X&Y and didn't win for VLVOD, that's just odd! No offense to X&Y, but we all know that it wasn't received perfectly by the critics :dozey: Of all their albums, I would expect X&Y to be shut out (like it was at the Grammys), not VLVOD!

wow, I just realized how skinny Guy is.. he is very thin :\

wow, I just realized how skinny Guy is.. he is very thin :\

He's small but perfectly formed :smug:

it's weird because in concerts he looks perfect :wink3: and in non concert pictures he looks really skinny and small

well im speechless...people in America recognise their talent but for some reason the UK cant see this. How can u put Coldplay and Girls Aloud in the same category its so different...no disrespect to Girls Aloud but Im stunned really I am stunned.

Coldplay we love you and forget wat everyone else says...bring on wembley because the true fans love u and ur music...they didnt walk away with anything is a joke....why do people here in the UK not see how good they are.....Life In technicolor ii flopped for no reason unbelievable

As I wrote elsewhere they really haven't played enough large-scale gigs in the UK to raise their live awareness throughout the public. Though the boys have played incredible buzz gigs in the Uk and nurous radio slots for which we're extremely grateful, after the Brixton gig in June (which only a few thousand people could attend) we had a six month wait to see them again. The main focus this year has been America, and that's been reflected in the fact that the band won Grammys but not Brits.

I'm not sure that LiTii flopped, but it certainly would've been a bigger hit if it had been better promoted. Like LiJ and even The Hardest Part from the last album, it almost felt like it was a 'secret' single that you had to go out and search for even to purchase. I have no idea why the band take that road, but I absolutely agree it deserved to be number 1 and probably scoop the single of the year prize, it's that strong a song.

Thanks ravrat, blame it on the vino. x

Yeah, but remember when the album came out, Chris said they took the vocal off LIT i because people said it was "an obvious single" - they never wanted to make a big deal of it.

I think they decide the 10 nominations for Best single on sales and then let the public vote from there... so LITii definately won't make the shortlist next year

it's weird because in concerts he looks perfect :wink3: and in non concert pictures he looks really skinny and small

cause in the concert he's not so close to chris, jonny and will ;d

chris is 185cm height! or sth like that

Ah shame... I love that song soooo much!! It's just brilliant!! And I also wish Lost! and LIJ were released physically...It would be much better and a much bigger deal...Plus, they have like the best covers ever!!:D

wow, I just realized how skinny Guy is.. he is very thin :\

yeah.. we've been working out :sneaky:

Thanks ravrat, blame it on the vino. x

I let you off just this once:P

Why does everyone care about sales saying Lit2 LIJ THP?? Who the fuck cares!! To be honest I d rather none of their singles be popular. Its only shit if YOU think its shit. I dont need anyone to tell me All i Need is brilliant. Thats what makes a song good, not popularity

(Hey there my fellow Coldplay fans, newbie here. :D First post, normally just a lurker! :laugh3:)

I think what Debs said is right, BUT, for us who actually live in the UK it is much more disappointing than others. Because its one of the most anticipated events and the hype here is unimaginable and we watch it live on TV and we expect it to be great and etc. Its like the british version of Grammys for us. So I think some of you should be more understanding of the fact that we are far more pissed off!

I completely agree with you on this. The boys winning nothing may be really dissapointing for Coldplay fans everywhere, no matter where you live, cause we all love them and their music. But being British yourself makes it feel so much worse. It is such a massive event for the British music industry and is really hyped up for months beforehand - so to have Coldplay on home turf going away with nothing because not enough of the voting boards/british public voted for them is SO damn dissapointing. I really can't believe that they've gone away empty handed! They're the biggest band we've had in decades (apart from U2, but they're from Ireland), they've conquered almost the entire world, they fill massive stadiums, they were NUMBER 1 in the British Album stakes of 08. It's just ridiculous!!! :veryangry2: The Brits has officially turned into a joke, an absoloute joke. They've been nominated for best album 3 times before. After VLV, they really deserved to get it this time. And I actually believed they would! I shouldn't have got my hopes up... I guess they're just too "big" for The Brits now. Whatever that means. And too many people snub them for that, I really do think it's true. The overall impression I've got is that when it comes to the phone/internet votes, overall the people who vote are teenagers - hence Girls Aloud winning best single. Because, really, would any decent music-loving adult vote for them over the likes of Coldplay? Puh-lease, they don't even write their own songs. Wow, this is really pathetic. Atleast Elbow won something. That's the only thing good that came of this year!

(sorry, rant over)

yeah.. we've been working out :sneaky:

Ah, who needs Brit awards to smile about when you've got pix of Guy Berryman and cheeky Berrygirls to share them with

All in all, a terrible reflection of British music.

Ohhh, and Duffy was advertising Diet Coke straight after the Brits finished! What a coincidence!

^ Diet Coke is poison, shame on Duffy!

Really? Oh go on Duffy, drink some more.

LOL, it's shameful isn't it? I actually want to hang my head in shame over this. :(

And shame on Duffy for doing a Diet Coke ad. Does she really need the money that bad what with her millions-of-copies-selling album? Ew, Diet Coke. It's horrible!

It's okay, I still love you Brits much more than my fellow Americans! :P

And we all know British music is the best, even if your award shows refuse to recognize the real talent :dozey:

Yeah exactly. I suppose this was the last time I watched the brits, and hopefully the last time the boys turned up at the ceremony. Coldplay are just becoming too big for them and the brits don’t even deserve to have our wonderful Coldplay playing a their award show.

But now me and my mate are saving up to get tickets for when they come to Old Trafford. I just wanna go there and sing along to all the songs and show the boys how much we love them, no matter what they win or not win. For us they are still the best and biggest band in the whole universe!! :P

And by the way, welcome to the thread ;)
