February 1, 200917 yr Ok folks, Here's a thread to discuss the "you know what" for "you know who". I'll paste in some of the highlights from the Social Group pages. Please tell all your friends who sent a postcard to come to this thread to plan our thank you. The current fave idea is making a cd filled with messages of thanks to Debs for all her help with the postcards project. Taken from the Social group pages 30-01-2009 11:12 PMCris_Santos We could record ourselves saying "thank you from..." and join all the recordings in one solo file. Then we send her a cd or a mp3 player with our message! Or we can organize a whole 'Debs Wild radio show' with longer messages, some songs and our 'thank you' recordings 31-01-2009 05:33 PMZemy101 But i really like Cris' 'thank you' message idea, where we all record ourselves saying thanks and put it on a CD, I think thats really cool. And then maybe me or someone else could lay down a soft acoustic guitar piano track in the background, to play all the thank you's over the top to. And if we were to compile a CD, I could always have a go at designing the casing and album art or whatever. Anyway, these are just a couple of ways to potentially spice up that idea. 31-01-2009 07:51 PMApproximatelyInfinite i think all the ideas so far are really nice. i really like cris's CD recording idea, because we could all have our minute or so to say our bit, someone could burn it to a CD, and it would be done easily (it's an easy thing to do, i could write instructions and everything). i'm a big supporter of the CD-recording idea. it's not hard to do, and pretty much everyone with a laptop these days has a built-in microphone and a program to make voice recordings with. we could come up with a simple way for people with desktop computers or whatever to do it too, and it's such a simple process that i'd write instructions on how to do it for people that are clueles. everyone uploads the short clips to zshare, one person downloads them and burns them to a CD, and mails it with a nicely designed cover. 31-01-2009 07:55 PMZemy101 Well, the CD thing would actually be relatively simple. Get everyone with a microphone to record a short thank you message (no more than 30 seconds, roughly), save it as an MP3, and upload it somewhere. Then one person could download everyone's sound bites, and edit them together as one long track. And whatever music we find to go underneath it, if any, can be compiled with the thank you track and burned to a CD The design process would be relatively simple, too - just a nice simple front and back design, not much flare or fuss, an possibly even a design for the CD too - and there you have it. It would then be ready to mail to the PO Box, in one small package. It really is quite easy
February 1, 200917 yr I'm not sure about the cd, the poster is a better idea, but I don't know, do whatever you want also we would have a really long cd, and I don't know if she would like/would have the time to listen to it :uhoh:
February 1, 200917 yr Hmmm, while the Cd is a really good idea, I kind of agree with Lore. The CD could end up being 3 or 4 cd's if everyone participates. However, I dont have any good ideas of my own so Im up for the consensus. If we did a poster or something like that. How would we all be able to sign it or add something to it?

Well on Friday night I suggested eveybody send a butterfly to one person with a message written on it. Then we attach the mine-butterflies to a giant print of Zemy's original project logo butterfly.People could send butterflies from the concerts or make their own and write a message
February 1, 200917 yr I think I'd still have to go with the poster. The one where all our postcards are shown and there's a big "thank you Debs" spelled out embedded on the postcards collage. its related, and can be displayed. :D
February 1, 200917 yr I actually really like your butterfly idea, Alison! Although I'd have to send bat confetti instead of butterflies since they're all from my Halloween concert  In any case, I vote for something visual over an audio. It'll be easier for everyone and then she'll really have the time to appreciate it instead of listening to the whole CD or something... *shrug*
February 1, 200917 yr I don't know what we should do! I like the cd idea, but if it would end up taking up more than one cd, then i don't know how i feel about that. Even if it did fill up one, that would be over an hours worth for her to listen to all our thank-yous. The poster idea with the butterflies would be cool, but again, this one will have to take some time because we would be mailing them off and other butterflies might take longer to arrive than some. hmm.. I really like Ioshi's idea of making a collage with all the postcards we sent to the guys... but that would be hard work to do. I say we stick to the idea Chels had back in the group, where she recommended sending flowers, and it could just have a little thank you card with it that said "Thank You Debs!" "From: Coldplaying" It would be easy. It's simple. It's sweet. And everybody loves to get flowers! Especially when they aren't expecting them. I think she would really appreciate it. :D
February 1, 200917 yr Author The problem with the flowers is where we deliver them to - now that the project is over, sh'es not going to check the PO Box as regularly, and I'm not sure you can have flowers delivered to a PO Box anyway.

We would have to send an e-mail or somehow explain to somebody who knows it, what we need it for, and i'm pretty sure they would understand and give it to us. I just think it would be cool for her to get them one day while she's at work...
February 1, 200917 yr Author I've always imagined hers is the kind of job you can do from home...
February 1, 200917 yr hmm... Well we would have to do some research if we were to do the flower thing. And we would want to make sure we send them when she is there. But i think it would be best. Otherwise, i'm all out of ideas. Everything i thought of is too complex..
February 1, 200917 yr Hey everyone! When I thought of the cd idea, I was thinking about very short messages, as said before: "Thank you from Cris_Santos in Brazil" If you think this could end a bit boring, we could write a thank you letter and each person would read a small bit of it... buuuuuuuuut I really think the fresh flowers idea would be sweet, beautiful and a lot like Debs, I don't know why I think she loves flowers :) Can you imagine how cool would it be when she get the flowers with no idea of the sender and then read our card?? Do you think would it be possible to get her work address calling EMI??
February 1, 200917 yr If we do flowers, Lore could always give her a heads-up that a surprise will be arriving for her at the PO Box... But I'm all sappy, so I'm still imagining Alison's butterfly idea
February 1, 200917 yr Do you think would it be possible to get her work address calling EMI?? probably! somebody try it! haha. I'm too scared. But i don't know if they are allowed to give information out like that to just anybody..... But it's worth a try.
February 1, 200917 yr Cool ideas for the Thank Yous. One of the issues I have with the flowers is that it is a thank you that she can't keep whereas a cd or poster is a more permanent reminder.

But yeah, I see your point. hmmm... or we could send her boxes of those Jaffa cakes that many of the ''Postcards from Far Away Project thread'' people were going on about  :D
February 1, 200917 yr We should get one of those obnoxiously huge cards, you know the ones that are like 4 feet high!

February 1, 200917 yr :laugh3: Yeah! Or those ones that Sing when you open them!!! If there was a Coldplay one that'd be perfect! :P Well you can record your own now, so we could just hold it up to a speaker :wink3: :laugh3:
February 1, 200917 yr Author hmmm... or we could send her boxes of those Jaffa cakes that many of the ''Postcards from Far Away Project thread'' people were going on about  :D I beg of you, do not bring the jaffa-obsession to this thread!!!
February 1, 200917 yr i just think the whole poster thing is overly complicated, as big as the postcards project itself, and i'm more for a small and simple idea. the CD would be much less complicated to make and send off, and everyone could do their part in less than 5 minutes and send it instantly over the internet. audio CDs have 80 minutes of recording time, too, so we could fit A LOT of people just saying "thank you" and their location and name, or like ~160 people could do an under-30-second personalized message (and that's still a lot of people). i'm a visual person too, and i'm not completely opposed to the poster idea, but i don't necessarily think that debs would definitely put up some sort of poster in her office permanently and always think of us or whatever. she might, but she might not. i like the CD idea because it's still personal (what's more personal than a message in your own voice?), a good representation of all of us, and she can pop it in and listen to it once or as many times as she wants, and then it's just a CD that she can file away rather some huge poster that she might get rid of or just keep knocking around for a while. i'm having a hard time describing why the idea of a big poster makes me wary, but i just think it's too complicated and too overblown. i like the CD idea because it's almost MORE personal, yet small and manageable without being too...obnoxious or something.
