Novah
Apologies in advance if this has been done before--I did a search and didn't find anything. What Coldplay song(s) did you initially misinterpret? I am going to go ahead and admit that for the longest time, before I really became a fan and was just singing along to the radio, I thought the Yellow lyrics were "Your skin... oh yeah your skin unfolds." :\ I thought it was a metaphor! Like caterpillar to butterfly... "turn into something beautiful" like a butterfly! :sigh: Better than my friend, though, who thought Chris Martin was saying "I'm stealing... oh yeah I'm stealing forks." :shocked2: Anyone else willing to admit mishearing lyrics? ;)
ImLovingGuyBerryman
:uhoh: i ebarrassed myself on this forum when i thought the lyrics in fix you were "i promise you i will look for my mistakes" when they are actually "learn from my mistakes." :embarassed: there are other ones too. but i cant list them all out. it seems like i have a problem understanding chris a lot of the time
Ab
Better than my friend, though, who thought Chris Martin was saying "I'm stealing... oh yeah I'm stealing forks." :shocked2: LMFAO!!!!!!! :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Well, when I 1st heard COL, I thought it was "Gun is inna houses & gun is in my head" Now, even though I know it's "God", I prefer to sing it "Guy"! :P
Prospekt.
Before I was a Coldplay fan really. "Shoot an apple off my head" sounded a lot like "shoe that I pulled off my head"

Lyric
I actually think that Chris is much easier to understand than a lot of other singers.
cold_love23
OMG this is a great idea for a thread... Same for me with yellow!! when Chris sings " ....oh yeah your skin and bones..."I thought he was saying " oh yeah you're skin unfolds" honestly, I thought he was saying that until like 3 months ago when my sister heard me singing it and told me I was wrong.. I thought it was supposed to be a metaphor too, like a flower unfolding! YAY!! I wasn't the only one :D also for Low, when Chris sings "Cos I feel low, cos I feel low" I thought it was saying... "cos I feel like, cos I feel like" and holy hell this next one is embarassing... honestly for like months and months I thought that in Death And All His Friends when he sings "all winter we got carried" I thought he was saying "all winter we had candy.." I'm not joking, I suck when it comes to hearing lyrics.
Andy14
I first thought that "take a breath, jump over the side" from What If was "take a breath John Pover". Makes no sense :p
crawlinwithin
haha all winter we had candy.... hey maybe they did. warning sign: "you were an item and I passed you by" or talk: "let's stalk let's staaaaaaaaaalk

ImLovingGuyBerryman
I first thought that "take a breath, jump over the side" from What If was "take a breath John Pover". Makes no sense :p HAHA! and i just remembered another one for me. in yellow i used to think he sang "for you i bleed myself trying." as in, he tried so hard for her (some girl) that he bled. or he hurt himself. but then i learned it was "dry" not "trying"

The Escapist
We i first heard yellow, i though he was saying yellow-blue because of the ooooh he adds on the end. so funny
Texasluvsjonny
On my first listen to Yes, when Chris sings "Sin, stay gone" I though he said "sixty-nine" :sneaky: Must be the sexy voice. Any way, I told Mel and Lori about it in Chicago, and we would sing it with sixty nine lyric.

In a telescope lens
For the longest time I thought the violet hill lyric "my nerves are poles, that unfroze" was "my love's opposed, but unfolds." :embarassed: there were a few other older ones i remember getting wrong when i was younger, but they slip my mind at the moment. the violet hill one is the only one i can think of right now. Miss Lestrade
I don't think anyone could understand the Violet Hill lyrics at first! :P "My nerves are poles that unfroze"? Who would think of that? I think I messed up the lyrics to a lot of songs, but I can't think of a specific incident...
noonsun
Originally, I thought that he was saying "If you love me, won't you let me GO," not "Let me know" in Violet hill. And the very first time I heard Clocks, I thought he said "a target's waiting to be framed" instead of "a tiger's wating to be tamed." I was like, what the fuck? o-O
