March 25, 200917 yr I was too young to know anything about politics, but I definitely would've cried if I knew better.
March 25, 200917 yr well the one that really pops out in my mind is 9/11. and i just barely remember when clinton was inaugurated.
March 25, 200917 yr Wow, I'm old!:laugh3: I have to say I remember seeing some of the lunar landings live (I was 3 ), and I do remember the news about Woodstock, but just barely. I remember Nixon's impeachment, and the end of the Vietnam war.. Tumultuous times, not all that different from this epoch here. :laugh3: You old fossil you!
March 25, 200917 yr Umm, the Slovenian Independence War. Was too young to actually know what was going on, but I remember how we went to an underground shelter because of planes and tanks and all that stuff. Hmm... Bombardment in 1999. Don't know how they called it, but I know they attacked Serbia. I was 4. I think it influenced memories of my friends, probably all of us remember going to the basements, the sound of alarms and airplane engines, etc.
March 25, 200917 yr Wow thats crazy. I just find it so abstract to think about war since I've never been in it.
March 25, 200917 yr Oh, I remember when Clinton got elected for his second term. I believe I was in the first grade.
March 25, 200917 yr Umm, the Slovenian Independence War. Was too young to actually know what was going on, but I remember how we went to an underground shelter because of planes and tanks and all that stuff. In the early 90s? I'm glad I was born after that! I heard all that rush in those years was awful!  :nice: Wow thats crazy. I just find it so abstract to think about war since I've never been in it. Be grateful. Serbia takes place in a lot of wars. I think I have never heard about a war that Canada was included in?
March 25, 200917 yr In the early 90s? I'm glad I was born after that! I heard all that rush in those years was awful! :hug:Yup, I was almost 3 years old when that happened. People from other ex-YU countries came to Slovenia because the situation there was better than in their countries. That was happening between '93 and 95' I think.
March 25, 200917 yr Wow thats crazy. I just find it so abstract to think about war since I've never been in it. I agree, it's remarkable to think about how easy it is to convince people that a war is just. I guess it works on the same principle as taxation. "Well everybody's doing it, and if I don't do it then I'll go to jail. So yeah, here's half of my paycheck!" Government = Groupthink.
March 25, 200917 yr My first memories include the Hillsbrough disaster, Maggie getting kicked out of office, the first gulf war, world cup 1990 and Mr Frisk winning the grand national.
March 25, 200917 yr For me the demolition of the wall in Germany. I was just on a demo when I heard the borders are open.
March 25, 200917 yr Yea I remember that as well! forgot about that. Come to think about it I remember hearing about checkpoint Charlie alot on the news in the late 80's. Can't believe they got the Hoff of all people to sing on the Berlin Wall.
March 25, 200917 yr Probably Lady Diana Spencers wedding to Prince Charles, I remember making Union Jack flags and sticking them to Rulers to wave when we watched it live on tv at primary school!!!! I was about 4 or 5.
March 28, 200917 yr Author i see most answers are 9/11 related. sorry for that Nina :( i didn't knew that. I think (here) we've been told few about what happened there. Mine was a concert, i remember my dad recording The Wall concert when i was 3 or so. But i don't think it can be considered really and Historical event. Next important event i can remember is when my country was back to the world in 1992, with the Olympics and Expo, but i have few memory of that, just i remember it for the importance it had and for some commemorative things i have.
March 29, 200917 yr crikey! I feel old reading some of those. my earliest would be the wedding of Fergie & Prince Andrew in 1986.
March 29, 200917 yr Probably 9/11. I thought the world was ending, I thought I was going to get conscripted into the army to go and fight in Afghanistan or Iraq or wherever the hell was going to be invaded. I was so scared. And the pictures of the planes crashing. For no reason at all. All that death for no reason whatsoever. I cried.
March 29, 200917 yr Oh yes, I forgot about Diana's death. I'm sure there are a probably a few other things that happened, but the first BIG thing that came to my mind was 9/11 because I remember exactly where I was when I heard about it and all that.
March 29, 200917 yr War. I was 2 when it stared... Serbia attacked Croatia. The war was 5 years long, many people died and it influenced me and everyone here. I still hate fireworks cause it gets me back to all those bombs that hit my house and my town. And it was terrible. I remember my dad going away and my mum crying and times when we hadnt heard anything from him for more than 10 days and my mum gave birth to my brother and my dad find out about that 5 days later. And it was something Ill never ever forget.
March 29, 200917 yr Fall of the Berlin Wall! :) I was 4 and I will never forget that special day. The news announcer on tv suddenly said something like "I can't believe the news we've just got in." It seemed so unreal. My parents were crying because of happiness after that. Always have to think about that moment everytime I visit Berlin. :)
March 30, 200917 yr Probably Lady Diana Spencers wedding to Prince Charles, I remember making Union Jack flags and sticking them to Rulers to wave when we watched it live on tv at primary school!!!! I was about 4 or 5. Me too:D Except my dad programmed our brand new VCR to tape it since the time difference had it occurring very early in the morning at our house. I'll never forget seeing all that dress come out of that carriage!
