I gotta question for you regarding The Leisure Society's The Sleeper, technically it is a 2008 album but it was a self-release jobbie which got a proper release this year, be it allowed?

If you do not accept Inshalla and Evermore I will stab you in the neck with a pair of scissors (especially for the Evermore one, because a song from it was released as a UK single in June). I was obsessed with the Evermore one for at least 3 months and Inshalla deserves a mention. These were the only 5 new albums I have heard this year (and even then I have not heard all of the Kasabian one). No monies, you see.

Well so far Animal Collective's Merriwether Post-Pavillion has been the best album, but Phoenix' new album and Grizzly Bear's new album have both been really good. Wasn't a huge fan of No Line Over the Horizen, actually.

 

I'd put Thom Yorke's Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses but that was more of an Ep.

2008 will be the last good year because Coldplay and Oasis always used to release albums in the same years since 2000! Only kidding but 2000, 2002, 2005 and 2008 were good album years mainly because of that. But now that Oasis have gone... oh well. I don't think both bands would have released albums in the same year for their next one anyway since I always believed that if Oasis didn't split, they wouldn't be back for 4/5 years.

you should start a thread about this. it makes for very interesting debate because i think the truly great albums are the ones that age well.

imo 2003 and 2007 were the two best years of the decade. but i've been following the music scene for only 3 or so years so im not entirely qualified to pick a year. but thats a debate for the album of the decade thread not album of 2009.

I feel a bit lame because no one here probably cares about most the artists I listed. And I don't listen to a lot of these artists being listed by everyone else. (ie; fleet foxes, grizzly bear, phoenix, kasabian, ect...) :(

 

I'm going to have to give myself time to go through these lists and give all these artists a listen.

when i read your post i was expecting that you had voted for britney spears and lady gaga or something. but i had a look at your selections (on page 3) and they're very very "not lame". Its Blitz is my second favourite of the year also. regina and NOFX are great too.

Muse- The Resistance

The Space odyssey continues to create a true masterpiece! First time I heard it, I wasn't too fond- but, man, how much it has grown on me is amazing! Resistance, Undisclosed Desires, Unnatural Selection, United States of Eurasia and the Exogennisis symphony rank among the best on the album! My second favourite Muse album after Origin of Symmetry!

Kasabian- The West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

I wasn't too fond of their first two albums, yeah, I liked a couple of the singles (Club Foot, Processed Beats, Empire, Shoot The Runner..) but I found the albums as a whole pretty dull, and the singles weren't THAT great. I first heard 'Vlad The Impaler' on the album as it was released on their website for free, and I thought 'WOW! This is such a cool song!' and then I heard 'Fire' and I was BLOWN AWAY! I was eagerly awaiting the album and was not dissapointed! 'Underdog, fast fuse, where did all the love go?....awesome!

Ben's Brother- Battling Giants

Not the most known of bands...but they deserve to be! Their first album is one of my favourite albums of ALL TIME, it is near perfection! This album builds upon the first with more amazing songs! If there's any band I'd recommend to ANYONE it would be Ben's Brother! Best songs include 'Apologise, Battling Giants, Stalemate, All Played Out...

The Fray- The Fray

Their first album was FULL of brilliant songs, this second album, although not as good as the first, is full of lots of GOOD songs, not exactly fillers, not exactly amazing songs, but good songs. 'You Found Me, Never Say Never and Absolute are among the best!

 

Green Day- 21st Century Breakdown

Not the best on this list, no way near, but it's full of alot of good songs! 21 Guns, Viva La Gloria and Last Night on Earth are among the best!

Arctic Monkeys- Humbug

Although being a dissapointment for me at first, Humbug grew on me...but I'm sad to say, not by much. I absolutely loved, and still do love, Crying Lightning it is easily one of the best songs of the year up with Kasabian's 'Fire'! But the rest of the album is a bit too 'dark' for my liking at times! 'Pretty Visitors, Cornerstone and Secret Door are the best!

Manic Street Preachers- Journal For Plague Lovers

Never really been into the Manics but after listening to 'Joan Collins...' I decided to give it a listen and I actually really enjoyed it! 'Me and Stephen Hawking, Marlon J.D and All is Vanity are my faves!

Paolo Nutini- Sunny Side Up

I heard that alot of people were dissapointed with this offering and to be honest...I wasn't! I LOVED the first album and I knew it wasn't as good as the first but I wasn't dissapointed and am still not, there are a load of cool songs on it and I love the jazzy feel of the album! 'Candy', 'Coming Up Easy' '10/10', 'Growing Up Beside You' and 'High Hopes' are my faves!

Franz Ferdinand- Tonight

After waiting what seemed like ages for a new Franz album, I was dissapointed with this album as whole and honestly believe that the three singles, 'Ulysses', 'No You Girls' and 'Can't Stop Feeling' are the best! And I really like those ones! Especially 'Ulysses' and the great sing-along, 'No You Girls'!

 

Just Jack- All Night Cinema

I never thought that Just Jack would be among my fave albums! NEVER! But this album blew me away. After hearing the first single 'Embers', I fell in love with the song, and although being dissapointed by next single 'Doctor Doctor', Just Jack blew me away with the next single, and the best song on the album, the amazing-The Day I Died! A true masterpiece of a song, I can barely put it into words but it Is great!

White Lies- To Lose My Life

Death-Obsessed! I like! 'To Lose My Life' and 'Farewell to the Fairground' are the best on the album of a very, very, death-obsessed band!

I'm beginning think that 2009 is only now really getting going. There's so much coming out this fall. :dizzy:

 

I still think 2005 was the peak of the decade though. It's like the whole underground scene started to explode into the mainstream then, and all this amazing stuff came out.

Your list is wonderful! I don't know all the groups on it, but based on the ones I do know on it I would like to look up the others some time. Which is the point of this list. If everyone listened to the same bands, it would be boring.
