I'm still agger about LP being $140 because I have to miss them AGAIN when I really wanted to see them AGAIN and their latest album wasn't really a hit.

Where are all the aussies? I ended up listening to John Steely Singers and Gypsy and the Cats debut albums. JSS was very good and GatC was exceptional. I really recommend everyone take a listen.

Still here, but studying :P I've still got 3 weeks of uni left!

I'm planning on going into the city tomorrow to get those two albums, now I'm really looking forward to giving them a listen!

Seeing as last night was Powderfinger's last ever gig, I'm dedicating today to listening to them :P

I'm so happy I could be there last night! Bernard didn't make as big a deal about it being their last gig as I thought he might, because the last two shows they played he kept mentioning it... but I think he was either in denial, scared he was going to lose his cool on stage, or both :P

Either way, they will be dearly missed!

Before we get into the serious discussion of things, maybe we should make a list of all the albums up for discussion... here's what's in my library, if anyone has anything to add please do :nice::

Angus & Julia Stone - Down the Way

Basement Birds - Basement Birds

Children Collide - Theory of Everything

Cloud Control - Bliss Release

Dead Letter Circus - This is the Warning

how about we nominate 3 albums each? something tells me this process might be easier than we think.

my noms

Innerspeaker - Tame Impala

Down The Way - A+J Stone

Bliss Release - Cloud Control

Ok. And an album can't be nominated more than once. So we should end up with 12 to choose from.

Mine:

The Holidays - Post Paradise

Miami Horror - Illumination

Cat Empire - Cinema

Good plan.

The three I'll add to the list are:

Hungry Kids of Hungary - Escapades

Seabellies - By Limbo Lake

Gypsy & the Cat - Gilgamesh (I'm kinda picking this one in blind faith :P)

I think we can all pretty much see the standouts in the list, though.

ummm i was kinda hoping that we would each list our top 3 albums of the year. and if we saw that the same album or two was on everyones list or more than one list then we would make it a finalist or whatever. might just make the whole process a little faster.

I don't think I have decided on my top 3 yet, but fair enough. It will probably make it quicker

Innerspeaker - Tame Impala

Down The Way - A+J Stone

Bliss Release - Cloud Control

The Holidays - Post Paradise

Miami Horror - Illumination

Cat Empire - Cinema

Hungry Kids of Hungary - Escapades

Seabellies - By Limbo Lake

Yeah, I can se GatC being right up there.

Well seeing as you three did it, the albums that I would nominate that haven't been already would be

Midnight Juggernauts - the crystal axis

Parades - Foreign Tapes

The Boat People - Dear Darkly

But if we are doing this then my list would of course be as follows, in order:

1. Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

2. Cloud Control - Bliss Release

3. Angus & Julia Stone - Down The Way (or Seabellies - By Limbo Lake)

I also need to listen to Gypsy and the Cat a few more times but Im pretty sure the above wiil be my final list.

Oh right :P Well that does make sense and it will make things a lot quicker. I think I want to give all my Aussie albums another listen before I make any final decisions... when's the deadline for this?

i was kinda hoping to pick one before the J Award but theyre announcing that in a couple of weeks time and i dont see us reaching a conclusion before then. so how about we make the deadline december 5? any later and im worried this thread might be subsumed by discussion of all the big tours going around the land.

Ah, righty then.

My top 3 Aussie albums of 2010:

1. Miami Horror - Illumination

2. Cloud Control - Bliss Release

3. The Holidays - Post Paradise

^That is an interesting top 3. I will be keen to hear about you reasons behind each choice.

Well for a start, I haven't heard ANY Angus & Julia Stone. No kidding.

^ :wtf: but even people who don't know anything about music know that album.

Do you just not like them?

I'll post my top three sometime tonight.

J Award Nominees

Final List

M-Phazes

Angus + Julia Stone

Parkway Drive

Bag Raiders

Birds of Tokyo

Bliss N Eso

Cloud Control

Sia

Tame Impala

Washington

A+J Stone might seem like favourites but i think it could be anyones this year. tame impala have been the best received internationally, washington has the widest appeal imo, Sia is the most established there and birds of tokyo have been the most successful in terms of album sales.

HEY WE'RE ON PAGE 100 :awesome:

Innerspeaker - Tame Impala

Down The Way - A+J Stone

Bliss Release - Cloud Control

1. Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

2. Cloud Control - Bliss Release

3. Angus & Julia Stone - Down The Way (or Seabellies - By Limbo Lake)

1. Miami Horror - Illumination

2. Cloud Control - Bliss Release

3. The Holidays - Post Paradise

OK so my top three...

1. Cloud Control - Bliss Release

2. Angus and Julia Stone - Down the Way

3. Seabellies - By Limbo Lake

3rd spot there was hotly contended by Seabellies, Tame Impala and The Holidays. But Seabellies and The Holidays are more my 'style' and I feel like Seabellies just have something that The Holidays are lacking in their sound (don't ask me what it is though). I think Gypsy and the Cat could have made it here too if their album had come out a little earlier.

Anyway, I'm seeing a common denominator here...

its funny. when i saw cloud control supporting vampire weekend back in may the day before they released Bliss Release i never thought i would consider it as one of the best albums of the year (australian or not) i was quite underwhelmed by their music. how things change!

Do you not like them much? Julia's voice (from what I've heard) isn't everyones cup of tea so I wouldn't blame you. It would seem difficult I would think to have not heard anything from them though, have you been under a rock or just unlcuky?

heyhey i just noticed we have the same 3 just in a different order.

Yes, I noticed that as well. I don't really know what it means, whether or not we have similar tastes or what-not. It will be an interesting dicussion when the times comes.

I don't really think A+J Stone should get it, only because they got so much attention with the ARIAs this year. If M-Phazes, Parkway Drive or Bliss N Eso get it I will be astounded, they mainly just made the list I think in sympathy. Bag Raiders wasn't that revolutionary, and neither was Birds of Toyko but they have a rather large fan base and following. Washington I believe would get beaten by Sia if it came down to best female Pop album but I wouldn't mind if either of them got it, both were great. Which leaves Tame Impala and Cloud Control. On a hunch I will go with Tame Impala but I really have no idea. I love both, not really sure what the judges would think. Thats just my two cents anyways.

OK so my top three...

So after seeing this list, I think the main albums we will be discussing are:

- Cloud Control ~ Bliss Release

- Tame Impala ~ Innerspeaker

- Angus & Julia Stone ~ Down The Way

- Seabellies ~ By Limbo Lake

- The Holidays ~ Post Paradise

- Miami Horror ~ Illumination (if alex thinks it should be discussed seeing as it was his 1st choice)

On the whole, I think that is a fairly decent list. It's a pity about Gypsy and the cat not being released earlier as grace said, it might have had a greater influence.

THIS. I find it amazing how much perceptions of this band have changed over the past year.

Haha, I was quite the opposite initially. After seeing them support Vampire Weekend, I went and bought their album the day it came out and haven't stopped listening to it since!

Although, I can relate to you in how I felt with Boy and Bear... I liked them at first but they didn't blow me away. And then I got the EP. :P
