Chris Martin's Worst Lyrics

Featured Replies

@ Reilly _ I saw a few of your posts - and most of them were at the beginning of a thread - , many of them were negative about Coldplay, and with some objectivity I think, I just didn't agree.

I haven't anything against you, really - I wrote it, I'm here too to discuss - it's just that if you posted something positive about Coldplay, I didn't saw it. ;) ^^ If you felt assaulted, I'm really sorry, and I beg your pardon.

@ noonsun _ Yeah it's a phrase, but I just don't understand why it comes there, in that song... For me it hasn't anything to do with the rest of the lyrics.

And what Reilly said gets lots of poins from me.

SO YOU'RE THE ASSHOLE WHO KEEPS REPLACING POINTS WITH "POINS" IN THE BUMP GAME.

I've got to be honest and say i think this thread sucks...I'm sorry, but most of the lyrics mentioned are actually really good, you guys (I know not all of you) are just too lazy to try to understand them!

*tuts*

Look at the earth from outer space / Everyone must find a place / Give me time and give me space / Give me real don't give me fake

Space, Place, Space (again) Fake. Using something like that as the lyrics to a song by a band as big as they are is just lazy. The lines just have no effort put into them...and if it took effort to write those lines then I have highly over-estimated Mr Martin.

Man, you've got to realise chris wrote them during the sessions for their second album, they were't as massive as they are now. And I personally think Politik is their best song!

i agree with what you said about people being too lazy to understand their lyrics. saying that they make too much sense that its obvious? i dont get how thats possible. you can interpret any of their lyrics in so many ways.

i feel bad for people who dont like the song's lyrics they are not getting the full effect of a song. politik is amazing, i love those lyrics =) and i still think paying attention to the lyrics is no way to appreciate their music. you need to look at the big picture and stop being so picky about things. damn it rambled for too long sorry

I really don't think so, I think the lyrics are a little naive by nature. Chris himself says it : people like Bob Dylan - he said Bob Dylan, didn't he ? - have lyrics that should be printed, Coldplay's are just a lot of feelings put together. But I agree with Simon Pegg on the point that Coldplay has become better, and particularly with VLVODAAHF.

I agree with those saying Lost's lyrics are crap. They're dull! The 'You might be a big fish in a little pond' part is especially painful for me, too. Like Cobalt said, "It's Chris trying to be symbolic in his lyrics but that statement is just being painfully obvious. Which is irritating." :disappointed:

Man you've got to realise that if I had a band who had a great selling first album and was making a second, i'd be focusing on improving the standard of my work. You might think Politik is their best song, but that doesn't mean it's not lyrically weak. Which it is. Even if I was just sitting at home recording stuff on my 8-track, I would actually cringe at myself if I made up lyrics like that.

Just because someone doesn't like the lyrics does not mean they don't like the song. The thread title is called 'Chris Martin's Worst Lyrics', this is a forum for discussion, people can still love the music but be critical of certain things.

You feel bad because people don't just blindly love everything that Coldplay do? If anything I feel bad for you, do you lack any ability to think critically?

Paying attention to the lyrics is just like paying attention to a guitar part you like or loathe, a drum fill that really compliments the song or a bassline that's repetitive or drives a song. The exact same thing applies to lyrics. There are lyrics you can find amazing or lyrics you can find awful. It's lazy to just accept any and all lyrics without any thought.

You might be wrong, but now, according to me, you're absolutely not.

first of all telling someone they dont think critically is like calling someone names to win an argument. now thats dumb.

secondly of course i can think critically, i DO pay attention to the lyrics, i think of many things that the lyrics could refer to. those people who dismiss them by saying they are so literal and obvious are the ones not thinking crtically. and i am not calling them names or anything, i really do think they are not really thinking about what the words could mean. so i dont just accept them just because, i like the lyrics because i think they add to the song in certain way.

when i said that i felt bad for people who dont like the lyrics to their songs, i didnt say that i expected them to blindly love everything coldplay. but i would think that given the kind of forum it is, i did expect people to love coldplay for what they are, lyrics and all. and of course you can still love coldplay eventhough you dont agree with the lyrics, but you still are not getting the full effect of the song because in the back of your head, you are still thinking that the lyrics arent great.

sorry for the long ramble (again) but i felt that i was insulted directly and i needed to defend myself. all my comments from before were meant to be in general so sorry if i made anyone feel the need to defend themselves.

Hahahaha! LYK WTF?!

Like Chris said, very few people in this thread are saying lyrics suck because they "don't understand them," they're saying lyrics suck because they are so mind-numbingly easy to understand there is almost no point in listening to them. :nice:

Like I said? :wtf: you must mean Reilly... :thinking2:...or is Reilly's actual name Chris? Does that make me Reilly?!? :worried2: uh-oh...WHO THE FUCK AM ??I!!!?!??!!??! :wreck: :freak: *runs to find existential detective*

Hahahaha! LYK WTF?!

you know what, i caught myself writting that but i was too lazy to edit it:laugh3:. but i dont know how to express myself well in words:\. in any case this whole thing is stupid and i am stupid for falling into this. i am truly sorry and i apologize. i am going to agree to disagree with you and anybody else :) if you dont like the lyrics, thats fine its your point of view not mine :) i would still be happy to meet any of you at a coldplay concert:D

haha.

lost's lyrics are so obviously metaphorical... they're almost all cliches. but i still love it.

the worst lyrics (i think) are from "how you see the world"

its a b-side for fix you

at least, i cringe throughout it :S

and i like 42's lyrics! i think they're cool :)

ie. "365 degrees

i am the puzzle, you're the missing piece"

I believe you mean, The World Turned Upside Down?

Well, if you do indeed think critically, then you are one of a very, very small number of people who appear to find absolutley nothing critical to say about any of Coldplay's lyrics. I think it takes real fans to highlight the bands weaknesses as well as it's strengths.

Has to be:

"Thooose who are deaaad are not deaadddd, they're just living in myyy heaaadd. And since I feellll for that speeellll, I am living there as welllll. Ohhhh"

I actually like those.

I think these are the worst:

Could you, could you come back?

Come back together

Cause you're the one I love

Now THAT's pure genius.

i dont even know what thinking critically is anymore. good thing im taking an english class about this. anyways i just meant that i think about what they are trying to say with their lyrics, not just in the literal sense.

in any case i realized my mistake from before and i accept it, everyone is entitled to their opinion. i think i was just stressed with school, and i took it out on something else...sorry.

and i dont blindly love everything coldplay. i actually have a couple of songs i dont like:embarrassed: shocking i know. "pour me" ... i dont know, i just always have to skip that one i dont know if its the lyrics or not i dont listen to enough of it to see if thats whats wrong.

Was it not you?

Oh... well I remembered somebody saying that and I thought it was you, my bad. :nice:

i think it's hard to just look at individual lyrics and critique them since a lot of it is in the context of the song so while the pieces of the song might not be poetry, overall the songs are.

that being said, i realize this might be a bit hypocritical because of what i just said, but every time i hear the line from glass of water that says 'cling to the mast, spend your whole life living in the past' i get sort of annoyed because i don't think living in the past is necessarily the best advice. i don't know, i might be misinterpreting what he is saying, but shouldn't we be urged to live in the present?

All of chinese sleep chant.
