FIFA should consider video checking, because there'd be lots of controversy in today's games if the difference were of only one goal.

Agreed, and this is why I was hoping Argentina would score more. I HATE it when my team wins a game and it wasn't deserved. Maybe if Mexico had stayed composed, they could have come back.

Myeah, Mexico could have put up a fight but the bitches got frustrated and just didn't have the same level of beast that they started off with. It really wasn't because Argentina played that great of a game, they weren't that amazing considering the fact that Mexico could have scored at least 4 times on them, 2 in like the first 5 minutes of the game  Everything was just bleh today AND STUPID REFEREES :veryangry:

Anyways, I want them to go down though  And I'm sure Germany will put a an awesome match, they're a great young team and they got this :smug:

And yes, FIFA needs to add more technology to their strategy cos apparently they refuse to go way high tech but doing so could solve much controversy like that of today

It's not overly "high tech" to simply place an official in a replay booth who can call down to the field and say "hey, that was a goal, stop the play".

Yeah it's nothing expensive or sophisticated, it's just a simple replay.

BTW I got angry at mexican players' agressivity.

Yeah, same here. They started acting like little bitches.

Have you ever watched a game of rugby? The officials sometimes take ages to decide whether it was a try or not. Do not want!

Look, we have American football that has instantly replay that sometimes adds a lot of time to a game. SOCCER IS NOT THE SAME THING. 99 % of the time it's immediately obvious whether someone is offside, or whether the ball did in fact cross the goal line. When they slow down a replay of where a player is before a pass, you know instantly whether or not he is offside. It's not nearly the game of inches that american football or rugby is. It's extremely rare to have uncertainty about whether or not the ball crosses the line in soccer, while american football, because of first downs, has this problem very frequently. Every wrongly allowed or disallowed goal this tournament was immediately obvious after instant replay.

Look at tennis, if anything, replay has sped up the game because it's so efficient.

Yeah but that's only for tries which involve many players smothering the ball putting it out of view for the referee. Football is far far far simpler and as Gareth Southgate says it only takes 10 seconds for a replay to be viewed by the 4th official. Sadly in the England game the referee and his assistant were just amateur at best. A world cup which started off with good refereeing but has gone quickly downhill since and well and truly hit rock bottom with the performance in today's match. Truly atrocious.

The refereeing was shockingly bad today but I still don't like the idea of replays. Depends on what you use it for though. I suppose it wouldn't be too bad if you only use it if the referee is unsure whether a goal should count. The official might have to view the reply a few times/ look at it from different angles if they use it for penalty decisions, bookings etc and I think this would really affect the game.

It's quite simple really, unless it's a really tough decision, just one single replay will be enough... In addition it would help to improve football because there'd be eventually less acting, fouls, complaints about the refereeing, etc.

In American football there are nonreviewable penalties that prevent what you're afraid of. Review for goal-line and offsides alone would be the greatest advancement in the history of soccer. We're not talking about the referee spending five minutes in a booth looking at a camera.

Its as simple as this: Take the Argentina goal today, after the play the head ref asks a ref in the tower whether Tevez was offsides. Ten seconds later, the ref in the tower says 'yes, he was offsides'. The head ref calls the goal off, and awards a free kick. Is that not what you and everyone watching wished could've happened? Wouldn't you wish the ref could've stopped play for a few seconds to verify that Lampard's shot had , in fact, crossed the line?

Today thousands of americans who rarely watch soccer, rolled their eyes and couldn't take the sport seriously because of how painfully primitive it seems. Who could possibly take a sport seriously in which refs are allowed to disallow obvious goals ALL the time?

I hope they will!

just before the big beating from Spain on Semi finals. :P

He's really aggressive.

So far:

Uruguay vs Ghana

Argentina vs Germany

:dead:

ANOTHER one?:stunned:

they're everywhere!

Germany - Argentina is gonna be epic.

yeah!

Spain is so screwed..

:lol:maybe maybe not

Completely agree.

On the subject of officiating...I also like the NBA's policy of reviewing suspensions (also similar in the NHL). Instead of dealing out suspensions left and right for two yellow cards, a committee should review each card (AFTER THE GAME) and be able to determine whether it was a just call or not. This way, players like Kaka wouldn't have been benched for such a poor set of Yellow Cards.

yeah its like that with rugby down here in australia and is a very good system.

but the thing is FIFA have no incentive to improve the game. it is the world game and is far more popular than any other sport in the world, so regardless at how poorly the game is run FIFA will continue to make billions in revenue. they can pretty much do (or in this case not do) whatever they like and get away with it.

it's a bit like U2, being able to charge $150 for restricted view seats that are a block away from the stage. if any other band tried to pull that off they would be playing to half empty venues. but U2 are the biggest band in the world so they can do whatever they like to no detriment.

Well, Mexico lost again to Argentina.

No surprise :blank:

So what do you think? Nokia? Samsung? Sony Ericsson?

ah now i know why there have been so many ref screw ups at this world cup.

I wonder how long it will take until the BBC finds out that they actually mentioned the WRONG stanza of the German national anthem... :o:angry:
