Signing out from this forum and this band... forever

Featured Replies

Well... it's happened. I can't handle listening to this band anymore. I thought if I took a few months off, I'd put them on one day and the feelings would come flooding back.. but it hasn't been the case. And I know now, that it won't be the case.

I was there from the beginning, when Shiver came on Rage at 2am in late 1999, i went straight out to buy Parachutes the next morning. In the following 10 years, i went on their websites daily, bought every single, downloaded every show I could find, no matter how bad the sound quality... I've seen them live 9 times, in 3 different states, met the band.. I've done it all!

X&Y was bad. Really bad... But every band blows out every now and then. I was willing to over look this. Things seemed to be on the right track heading into Viva, but the constant mentions of U2, and the endless comparisons to them began to wear me down. Coldplay are becoming the commercial machine that U2 already are. bringing Brian Eno on board hardly helped here. I wanted Coldplay to do their own thing... not follow in U2's footsteps .. not try to be the 'next' U2. They've become a band for teenage girls to fawn over (see most of the thread titles in this section for evidence).

I liked Viva, I still do.... but then I realised the outrageous amount of pre-recorded instruments and vocals used in the live shows... Chris dancing around instead of playing an instrument. Lovers in Japan, blatant pre recorded keys all the way through it. Fix You... 'tears stream down your face'.. pre recorded vocals. Viva la Vida... almost the whole song. 42... almost the whole song.

All this was the final straw. That was over 12 months ago now (that i saw them last) and I still never think to put them on. I've enjoyed my time supporting this band... Parachutes and Rush of Blood are part of the soundtrack to my late teens. I'm sure I'll still keep an ear out for new stuff, but it seems I've outgrown this band.

I know there are a few people around this forum who understand, and I know there's loads of you who won't understand at all... and will get your backs up about anything negative I've said... but that's the nature of a forum.

Thanks for having me Codplay... and Coldplaying... I hope you all enjoy what this band offers you in the future.

Err well okay. Whatever you want to do is up to you. Fair enough if you don't like the musi or band anymore. It's no big deal to me, or probably anyone here to be honest. I don't feel the same way you do but it doesn't get my back up - what you do is no one's business but yours. Good luck with whatever you do :)

Alright.I do understand your point....although I still love them.Good luck then!

in that case: good luck keeping your hands off the next album! :p

but, I really see your point.

thats just too bad...

its happened to me but with another band

oh well..

i still love coldplay!

good luck with everything

I agree with your points regarding live shows to be honest, the number of backing tracks they use has always got my back up a little, especially when it's so obvious.

Good luck in your next musical obsession and who knows maybe one day they'll knock your socks off again and we'll see you back here again :)

I don't agree with your points but that doesn't make them any less valid.

Good luck with whatever happens next for you.

I don't want them to be the brand new U2 ... they're better! I want still belive the won't, but stop sories of plagirism - or so - ! I hope ... I wish ..... :D

For you, good luck with everything! see you, byee :)

I understand the whole thing about the live shows and the backing tracks. One of the reasons I got into Coldplay was that when they played live it was just the four of them.As I can see how it would be hard to do this with Viva seeing as how many different elements are used on some of the tracks. It bugs me a little that they used a backing track of the piano for Lovers In Japan during their live shows. But I guess I am willing to overlook that kind of stuff and eventually i get over it and it doesnt bother me.

Im pretty sure we will see you around here again.Later!

I agree. I do see the point in this, but I just guess it doesn't bother me that much.

Goodbye, and good luck! :nice:

beats the last person i remember who made a thread like this and said they quit because 'the band was too popular, and he/she didnt like that'

at least this issue is understandable to some degree...

I'd care but,

there's loads of people on coldplaying who don't like coldplay.

They however didn't feel the need to post a thread and rant about it,

these people didn't even leave the site.

Which in my opinion shows how good this site is :laugh4:

But your points are valid, especially compared to that ^ :laugh4:

I think you're being a bit overdramatic.:dozey:

I have to agree with this, but you've made your decision and I wish you luck with that.

agreed

You know, one of the reasons the Beatles stopped touring was because they were unable to recreate their studio sound in live performances. Back in the 60s, the technology just wasn't there. I would much rather see a band live who is able to recreate their studio sound onstage, even with prerecorded tracks, than not see them at all. Or else they would have to have studio musicians help them out, which I believe, would detract from what was created by the 4 members of Coldplay. The charisma that so identifies Chris Martin would be so lost if he were not able to perform live. There are few bands with only four members that don't use studio musicians or backing tracks live.

I think you're very wrong with your decision. It's not because I don't understand, I almost have the same view on it BUT you should give them some time before you won't be a fan anymore. At the moment I'm also in some kind of a Coldplay depression, not listening to them permanently for months, just one or two songs in weeks! Sometimes I also think that it's over but I keep on having in mind what will come next:

We know that Coldplay will release some kind of acoustic album and they want to play in smaller venues...to me that's a real good sign that they want to go back to their rootes. It shows that they are aware of it and care about the whole thing, maybe also for themselves because such a gigant stadion tour is hard enough for everyone of them. I cannot think of Coldplay disappointing us...I don't know another band who care so much about their fan's wishes.

I have to admit that I've enjoyed Coldplay's shows less and less the bigger and more spectacular they've become, but I've had to accept that as part and parcel of their phenomenal success.

I was particularly disappointed when they did those all-seater UK shows in 2008, as I felt the atmosphere was dreadful compared to any of the "GA" concerts I've been to.

However, although I couldn't envisage ever watching them at an all-seater gig again (hopefully there won't be any ever again), I certainly feel that "deserting" the band is going way too far.;)

I saw the thread title and thought it was Shane again.

Shame?:P

I agree with that to an extent. I didn't think the atmosphere was dreadful but it was certainly very different to normal, when the floor would be standing not seats. I remember thinking that was a weird decision at the time and I'm still not quite sure why someone thought that was a good idea but hey, I had a good time all the same.

Shame?:P

Yeah, let's go with that. :P
