July 20, 201015 yr The shortlist for the 2010 Barclaycard Mercury Prize has been announced this morning (July 20). The names of the 12-strong list were revealed this morning at a press conference at London's Hospital Club. As widely predicted, The XX feature with their self-titled debut, while Wild Beasts, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling have also been nominated by the prize's jury. Dublin's Villagers are perhaps the biggest surprise to feature on the list, with Manchester veterans I Am Kloot also nominated. The 2010 Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlist is: Biffy Clyro – 'Only Revolutions' Corinne Bailey Rae – 'The Sea' Dizzee Rascal – 'Tongue N' Cheek' Kit Downes Trio – 'Golden' Foals – 'Total Life Forever' I Am Kloot – 'Sky At Night' Laura Marling – 'I Speak Because I Can' Mumford And Sons – 'Sigh No More' Paul Weller – 'Wake Up The Nation' Villagers – 'Becoming A Jackal' Wild Beasts – 'Two Dancers' The XX – 'XX' Thoughts?

July 20, 201015 yr Never heard it so I can't be sure. But she won it over my beloved Friendly Fires! I see. Obviously not the public, though.;)
July 20, 201015 yr Woo, Miss Marling and Mumford & Sons! I'm not going to vote, cause I cant decide :P.
July 20, 201015 yr The only two I've listened to on the list are The xx and Corinne Bailey Rae, so I can't really make a decision. :shame:
July 22, 201015 yr I haven't even heard of some of those artists :facepalm:That's the idea of this award. It's an annual chance to mix some dross like Dizzee and add some over-the-hill's like Paul Weller and then to top it off the rest of the field is made up of people off the street. That way they can call it a proper award because you then have no idea who wins it or why!
