Try listening to the bends and ok computer if you have time.

Yeah I was gonna say that.

My first Radiohead album was Amnesiac. A friend of mine gave me a copy years ago and told me to listen to it but I only liked about two songs. Someone else told me to listen to The Bends back in 2006 and I loved it. I bought Ok Computer soon after and I also gave Amnesiac another go and I actually started liking it. I got all the albums within two weeks or so and listened to nothing else for months. I was going through a bit of a difficult time back then and Radiohead helped me a lot.

Radiohead totally changed my musical taste, actually got to see thom yorke last year, it was sublime, I think i could actually not have to see another concert again in my life (aside from Coldplay) if i got to see Radiohead. I owe all of this to Ren. I seriously changed what i listen too and what i consider is good music. but then i love bands like The Script that are very main stream. its all relative, you like what you like. my kids just think they are the whinney group i play in the car, sighhhh

Your music taste would be even better if you started listening to Sufjan ;D

AWESOMELY AMAZING!!!

Fuck. Almost cried when I saw that in the trailer for The Social Network for the first time. It's so damn good. A lot of their songs are quite good actually.

I'm actually listening to the soundtrack for The Social Network right now... I'm a fangirl :shame: but it's so good...

Funny little story:

When I came home my husband saw the Best Buy bag and he asked me what I got. I told him I bought a Radiohead CD. He had this snarky little smirk for a brief moment and then we were talking about other stuff, but the snarky little smirk reemerged. I asked him why he was smirking and he said, "oh, it's just funny, if you would have bought that when we were first going out I probably would have broken up with you." I laughed and asked why he said that, and he said it was because apparently ICP and Radiohead had some sort of beef back in the day, and got into a fight or something. And he used to be a hard-core ICP fan, so... yeah. Funny.

No Surprises came out over thirteen years ago.

Creep and Fake Plastic Trees came out about 16+ years ago.

I would suggest maybe trying their more recent work? :blank:

Massive multi-quote time!

I've never really listened to their music before. I've avoided it, although I'm not sure why. Seeing random talk on the forum about Radiohead has piqued my interest.

As far as my "typical" taste in music, I'll put up with pretty much anything except country. I usually listen to classic rock and radio stations that play music from 70s-90s, and Coldplay (*gasp!* blasphemy, I just mentioned Coldplay in the lounge).

Yesterday I watched this little 40-minute show which was a hodgepodge of some of Radiohead's live performances from TV appearances, mostly 'Later with Jools Holland'. Plus a few weeks ago I saw a video of a live performance of House of Cards. My initial reaction is that they seem to be an amazing live band.

So, I'd like some input here. If I start listening to them, I'd have a lot of catching up to do since it looks like there are 7 LPs. And I'm old school so that means I'd go out and buy the CDs. Should I? Or should I not even bother? If I do, should I start at the beginning or go with the most recent stuff and work my way back? For those of you who listen, what are your favorite LPs/songs?

I'm going to be a sponge here, so let me know what you think, good or bad. And after your input, let me know how much of a fan you are on a scale of 1 to 10: 1 being "Radiohead sucks and I hope they rot", and 10 being "they are the best band in the world if I ever met Thom Yorke I would curl up into a ball and die of sheer happiness."

GO.

The forum is exactly how I got started into Radiohead fandom as well. I saw everyone talking about the band, and I thought, "Who is Radiohead, and why does everyone think they're so great?" I went to investigate for myself. I ended up downloading four of the LPs ("The Bends," "OK Computer," "Amnesiac," and "In Rainbows") all at once. Radiohead basically became my soundtrack for the summer of 2009, I was listening to them so much. Jesus Christ. :freak:

Today, Radiohead is one of my favorite bands. I have all the albums, almost all the B-sides, and even have Thom Yorke's solo album. (Frankly, it isn't as good as Radiohead in general, but it's an enjoyable listen.) I think this forum's perception of Radiohead served as a huge turning point in terms of the type of music I listen to now.

I don't really know what to tell you in terms of albums. I'd just go with what everyone else has told you, because I kinda went on a crazy Radiohead spree when I myself got into them. In terms of fandom...it's definitely on the upper end of the scale, but I find it hard to designate a number. I'm not a 10, though. That number is reserved for people like Mike.

DO EHT.

I personally think they're amazing, but you should give them a listen to and see what you think. My only thing was that I hated them the first few listen-throughs, but after awhile they really grew on me. :nice:

Scale of 1-10....I'd say about a 7 or 8 for me. :P

When I first listened, I remember thinking that Thom sometimes sounded like he was drunk because I couldn't understand him, and he kinda sounded like he was slurring to me.

The Bends isn't a good record in my opinion; but you say you like classic rock, so go for it I suppose... it's definitely their rockiest record. OK Computer is overrated but better than The Bends. After that you enter sacred territory, everything after OKC is amazing. Kid A is hard to get into but Amnesiac is harder, so listen to Kid A before you listen to Amnesiac. Hail To The Theif is a little different, more like OKC/The Bends than Kid A/Amnesiac are... if you like those two records, listen to HTTT before Kid A/Amnesiac, if not, just listen to the three in chronological order. That's what I'd suggest anyway.

Wow, we have a totally different view on Radiohead. I actually rather enjoy "The Bends," and I found it much more difficult to get into "Kid A" than "Amnesiac." I've found out that "Kid A" is definitely one of those albums that you have to listen to multiple times in order to fully appreciate it for what it is.

They have some really good b-sides. Like Talk Show Host :wacky:

"HOW I MADE MY MILLIONS."

Sorry, I just really love that song to bits. :wacky: It's really weird that I do, since it uses an out-of-tune piano, and I usually am severely irritated by such things.

People say so, but it's not. Electronic, yeah okay. Techno? No. Kid A is electronic but deffo not techno.

it's electronic, but not techno.

Though they have electronic elements I wouldn't consider them to be an electronic band.

Those. They're far from techno. "Idioteque" kinda sounds like it, but not really. It's mainly the beat that gives it that slight feel.

Yeah, The Script! -highfive-

Your kids aren't as bad as my parents. They just call them what they call the vast majority of my music: garbage. :dozey:

Okay so after I got out of work I stopped by Best Buy to pick up In Rainbows, so I could listen to (most of) it on my way home.

Initial reaction:

why the eff haven't I listened to this shiznit before

:cheesy: I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. :nice:
