That's almost true but people who listen to music solely because it's popular (the large majority of Lady Gaga fans) or solely because the artist is cute (the large majority of Jonas Brothers/Justin Bieber fans) are, quite simply, the scum of the earth.

Yeah I think it's dumb to like music because it's popular or because the singer is cute (although I'd argue that most GaGa fans just legitimately like her music, instead of liking it because others like it) but really, life is to short to care about those people. I'm glad they get happiness out of the music they listen to, whatever their reasoning. :shrug:

I have this song. I listened to it, anyway, to see what I could get out of it. I listened to it quite carefully, and I will admit that the part where Thom sings, "He's taaaaalking ooooout the wooooorld" did remind me a little of Matt. I had to try, but I got it.

 

That being said, though, I have listened to both bands for quite some time now, and I still don't think they're THAT alike. Matt doesn't sound like Thom. Matt sounds like Matt. Thom sounds like Thom. I doubt anyone could sound like either of them.

 

I know that made me seem a bit brash. Allow me to clarify that I have nothing against Thom Yorke as a singer. Stylistically, he does what he needs to do at the appropriate time. When he has to sound pretty, he does. (At this point, I must reiterate my love for "I Will" and use this as an example. :heart: If that doesn't work for you, refer to "Fake Plastic Trees," which is Radiohead 101.)

 

and why do you HAVE TO listen to every song and album before you say you don't like them. imo theres nothing wrong with having heard 5 or 6 songs and decided that a certain band just isnt for you. most of us dont have the time to listen to everything a band has done before making up our minds.

 

nevertheless. my motto is if you don't like a band. shut up about it and move on. (there are exceptions)

Thom's voice got mellow in recent years; some time around 2000. If you listen to earlier songs, you'll see that his voice was more powerful back then. Then again, Matt's a bit younger than Thom, isn't he? That partially explains why Matt's voice is stronger.

 

Yeah, it is a little bit, but not that much, and definitely not to the extent of Matt's, particularly if you were to compare them in terms of debut albums. Matt's voice on "Showbiz" is quite raw. (And, to be fair, a bit unrefined. But that's OK, given that Matt hadn't quite turned 21 during the time the album was recorded.)

 

You do bring up the age issue, which is indeed a factor, particularly in pop music. In the classical world, they take very good care of themselves and sing in a technically correct way, so it's not as big of a deal, and they can go for a pretty good while before their voices start to give out. With pop music, it's different, particularly if you sing in the way Thom and Matt do.

 

Matt's 32 going on 33, Thom's 42 going on 43. So Matt is a decade younger. I can't imagine Matt's voice getting mellow like Thom's in a decade though, because in my opinion it's gotten stronger over the 10 years or so they've been touring a lot. His voice can fill a stadium now, but in the earlier years in some performances it was pretty weak.

 

That was something I really was happy about when "The Resistance" came out. The richness of Matt's tone gets better with each album, and as long as he takes care of himself, he ought to be able to go for a good while. (He once stated that the beverage he treats himself to after a concert is red wine because it's the only alcohol that doesn't dry his throat out. That sounds fair enough.) He has a smaller-than-normal larynx, so I'm not sure how that will affect him in the future.

You have made it very clear for quite some time now (since way before the inception of this thread) that you think Muse are the worst piece of garbage on the face of the earth and Matt Bellamy looks like a naked mole rat. I saw in a TV special awhile ago, I think it was one of those '100 greatest artists' or 'greatest songs' shows, that Thom Yorke despises Creep and they don't play it live anymore. Is that true?
