The producer behind Mumford & Sons hit album, who is currently working on Coldplay's next release, has landed an early Brit Award.

Marcus Dravs - who also shaped Arcade Fire album The Suburbs - was named producer of the year ahead of next week's Brit ceremony.

He was presented with his prize by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin at an event in London's Cafe De Paris.

Dravs was nominated for his role on the Mercury-nominated Mumford album Sigh No More, as well as his work with Canadian act Arcade Fire.

Unlike most of the other winners, the best producer prize is announced ahead of the Brits, which take place at the O2 Arena on Tuesday.

<!-- ARTICLE INLINE AD -->Other award winners at tonight's annual Music Producers Guild Awards were Mute Records founder Daniel Miller - who had his own recording career as The Normal - who won the outstanding contribution prize.

And acclaimed producer Tony Visconti, known for his work with David Bowie and T.Rex, was honoured for his innovation with the Joe Meek Award.

Two weeks ago, when my family, Craig [Craigie-J] and I met Chris and Jonny, Jonny made a joke about Marcus, who is German.

"He's not very good at English, but we still know when the things we play are good and when they're bad. It's either "Ja" or "Nein!""

And then Jonny just laughed! :laugh3:

He seems to insinuate that Markus does not say much - so he is so to speak a "silent partner". :P

Chris Martin presents award at London ceremony

news_line.png

Good morning. We are extremely pleased and proud to report that Coldplay producer Markus Dravs last night picked up the BRIT award for Producer of the Year at the Music Producers Guild Awards in London. He was presented with the award (for his work with Mumford & Sons and Arcade Fire) by our very own Chris Martin. Markus co-produced Viva La Vida and is currently working with Coldplay on their fifth album.

As far as we're concerned, he is now *officially* the greatest producer in the world.

I'm so glad of this! Coldplay are in good hands :nice:

Awesome! Nice that it was Chris presenting him with the award.

Awesome. :D Ooh, and Chris looks goood. :drunk: Isn't it surreal how you can see that his eyes are blue in that little picture? :o

That's great! I didn't know he also worked with Arcade Fire.

This is great news! :nice:

Chris Martin gets the pre-Brits party started at the Music Producers Guild Awards

WITH just FOUR days left for the Brits, Chris Martin has already started the party before it’s begun.

The Coldplay frontman, 33, was passing the beers round working the room at the Music Producers’ Guild Awards where he presented Markus Dravs with Producer of the Year at London’s Cafe de Paris. A source said: “Chris was on top form larking with Manic Street Preachers and Plan B. Chris was telling them they were great guys.”
