[31-July-2011] Coldplay @ Splendour In The Grass festival, Australia

Featured Replies

Friday night has the strongest bevy of performers, with Modest Mouse leading into showstoppers the Hives and then Kanye West. And earlier in the day there's a shocking overlap between Warpaint, James Blake and the Kills (pictured), while later on Mogwai and DJ Shadow will suffer up against the Hives and Kanye. Boo.

Saturday night is the weakest of the three evenings, with the Mars Volta set to clear the amphitheatre (mark our words), leaving Architecture in Helsinki to claim victory in the Mix Up tent. The Living End and Jane's Addiction will then attempt to rebuild the evening on the Amphitheatre stage, though Pnau will be hard to beat back in the dance tent.

Sunday is UK invasion day, with the Amphitheatre stage having Elbow followed by Kaiser Chiefs, Pulp and Coldplay to close the thing out. If guitars and pasty ex-pats aren't your thing, the Mix Up tent should once again kill it with the final trio of Friendly Fires, Cut Copy and Bliss n Eso hard to beat.

Omg Ash cloud. Dont say it! Id bloody drive from Adelaide if that happened....

So in exactly 2 weeks Elbow will be onstage. That means in two weeks we'll be seein' Coldplay. I'm trying to remain calm, but it's not working :freak:

I've bought a whole stack of giant glowsticks and bringing them along, I'm so pumped.

Chloe are you going?

No :bigcry:

But make sure you guys take pics for me, please :)

Does anyone have any idea about whether or not we're going to be expected to line-up again for each act on the mainstage like some of these other festivals?

I'm really hoping not.

For my friends sake, I hope not!!! Ill be in the VIP area by the stage??? OMG so excited!!!

I didn't know they did that. They better not! I have to be in the front... :whip:

Oh, well -- I guess we'll have two days to figure out if we need to line-up.

And I have no idea as to where they'd be staying in Brisbane.

They normally stay at Hyatts or a Four Seasons...there is no Four Seasons in BNE. But I have a feeling they are flying straight out to the US.

Well technically you don't "line up". But there will be a D-section at the front and if that is full, there is no getting in. I recommend you get in there earlier rather than later. Like myself, I am getting in there at 6pm to watch Elbow, Kaisers, Pulp then CP all in a row! Going to be an exhausting last night but totally worth it. I did it at BDO last year for Muse so it's worth it getting in early!

Yeah, I get that festivals don't actually require any lining up, my comment was more in relation to not knowing whether audiences will be switched out after some acts to make room for other patrons. I was sure I read about this happening at another festival Coldplay played fairly recently, but I can't remember for the life of me which one it was. I was curious as to whether Splendor employs the same type of rotation and figure the first two days will make it clear whether or not to expect it.

Of course, my plan was always to spend the entire day at the main stage in anticipation for Coldplay's performance, but if this turned out to be the case, some other planning may have to be involved if I was looking to get front row. :)

Ah ok, I hope they dont that would be shit as... Im there from Elbow onwards NO WAY AM I MOVING!!!

Damn straight me too! :smug:

Hey, not sure if you guys are aware, but Triple J (alternative rock station we have over here in Aust.) will be broadcasting Splendour acts this weekend as the festival develops. I'm not sure when they'll be broadcasting the guys, since I don't know when they're on, but I'm guessing it's pretty much guaranteed that Coldplay will be broadcast, since they're probably the biggest act at the festival.

So, might someone not going to the festival (and will be home whichever night Coldplay are performing) be able to record the gig? It'd be a nice treat for whoever goes to the shows (ie not me) :)

Oh, and Triple J also have internet radio, so I daresay anyone not from Australia should still be able to listen to the show (hopefully) :wacky:

Hmm, it would appear that Triple J aren't broadcasting Coldplay's concert. Sorry everyone.

Aww, what a shame. But thanks a lot for your research!
